I'm pretty sure the rat was just trying to get a strange substance (soap) away from its body. I don't think it was washing up. And the orangutan was probably just imitating human behaviour it has observed.
@patriciasmith7074
@patriciasmith7074 4 жыл бұрын
@@Leksa135 It’s still cute no matter what their motives are! Do you have to ask what was he thinking? How did he feel? Was he imitating something he saw a human do? Do you think raccoons who rub their food in water scrubbing and rubbing quite vigorously are imitating a human, nah I don’t think so since they all do it and of course you could say they just like wet food or it makes it easier to swallow but they do spend considerable time rubbing it. What about some chimpanzees who have been observed using crude tools to open nuts or scoop up ants didn’t they devise that or imitate a human. Why is it there is always at least one person who has to argue over simple little remarks and turn it into a debate. Why don’t you worry about bigger things?
@Leksa135
@Leksa135 4 жыл бұрын
@@patriciasmith7074 Yes, I do think the motives are important. And how things feel is even more important. The difference between enjoying a morning shower and trying to remove some irritating goo from your skin is significant. I wasn't arguing that animals are not sentient/sapient.

8:41 The chimpanzee called ‘Mama’ was sadly enough not only very sick, she was actually dying. There is longer footage of the beautiful and loving interaction, where prof. Van Hooff (and other straff at the Dutch zoo where Mama lived for so long) said his farewell to her, while he comforted her all the way. Each time I even see a short clip as this one of this display of love and respect, I tear up immediately. I certainly recommend everyone to watch the longer version of this.

@Walk Straight Path This was written in one of the mayor Dutch newspapers: “On Tuesday 5 April 2016 chimpanzee 'Mama' died at the age of 59, being one of the oldest chimpanzees in Europe, in Royal Burgers' Zoo in Arnhem (the Netherlands) . An age of 59 years is very old in chimpanzee terms. ‘Mama’ was estimated to have been born in the wild in 1957, after which she lived for some years in the German zoo in Leipzig. In 1971 ‘Mama’ came to Arnhem with the chimpanzee women ‘Gorilla’ and ‘Franje’, where they formed the start of a new chimpanzee colony that would become world famous. For the first time in zoo history, several adult chimpanzees were kept together in one enclosure. In this group ‘Mama’ became world famous for her dominant and influential role in it. In her glory days she was at the absolute top of the ranking within the Arnhem chimpanzee group. Normally dominant men intervene whenever the order needs to be restored in such an enclave, but in this group ‘Mama’ was in charge and she ruled with a firm hand. When some adult males were introduced, they had a hard time, and it wasn't until ‘Mama’ and ‘Gorilla’ were temporarily isolated, that a new social hierarchy could emerge. Biologist Emirates Professor Jan van Hooff said about ‘Mama’ after she had passed away: “A lot of people I've shown around, after lectures and courses, knew her. Then when we arrived at the lodge, ‘Mama’ would run to me from the farthest corners to greet me excitedly from across the canal, chimpanzee-style, with a loud panting 'ohoh!'. Over the past year it has become increasingly difficult. It took her longer and longer before stumbling to the moat. I will absolutely miss her.” After her return to the group, ‘Mama’ was reluctant to accept this. Despite her name, she was a bad mother. Not infrequently, her young had to be raised with extra help from caretakers. Later in life, she was appreciated by her fellow group members for her conciliatory skills and her role as mediator in conflicts. She has maintained a high position in the group throughout her life, although granddaughter ‘Morami’ has taken over her central role for a number of years.” Her passing was sad, no doubt. Her death however had nothing to do with being innocent or not. The Lady died due to the complications of (a very respectable) old age.

It's so funny how often we describe things like in this video as "behaving human" like we are separate from the rest of animals when the truth is that we are not, and the fact that other animals behave in ways that we can recognize means that we are not the exception to the animal kingdom but that we are the same as the rest of them

@empanada65

@@MrRyan-wu4jx if you get plopped into the middle of a jungle buck naked with nothing in hand, it won't be long before you realize we are no different. We are still animals and without the help of our technology, that's taken centuries to develop, we're still just a bunch of apes. Our idea of consciousness is entirely subjective and very general. We only experience it from the human perspective but from the outside, it's impossible to tell if something is conscious or not. All we can do is check a bunch of boxes that signal intelligence. Dolphins and elephants are two of a few non primate species that can recognize themselves in a mirror. If they have a concept of self, does that make them concious? We don't know. All we do know is that before we were humans as we exist now, we were just another animal in the food chain, and that the moment we are taken away from all the things that make our lives easier, we become little more than something else on the food chain. The thoughts and emotions we feel arose from evolution, which means that the building blocks necessary for them to exist already existed in our pre-human selves. The reason animals exhibit behavior so similar to humans is because we are animals too. They dont exhibit human behavior. We exhibit common animal behavior because we are animal.

1:41 that breed of rooster is something else, very smart and bold. My family had chickens for years and our favorite rooster was just like that. He was very brave and sweet, and died by protecting hens from vicious cougars. But his legacy lived on, because a few weeks later his son hatched who looked just like him. He was like him, showing no fear of humans, smart, and social, but more intimidating. He would chase us at high speeds and jump at us. But soon he became more gentle and let us hold him like a baby. He was very popular with the hens just like his dad.

@@1193mike Well, a pretty simple one, actually: killing sentient beings for a profit is wrong, no matter how "nice" you are to them before killing them. Sure, it would be worst if you treated them poorly. But it's still wrong. I'm not trying to be a stick in the mud, but I'm just thinking it's twisted we're watching those cows playing and thinking "ooh, how cuteee!", completely ignoring the fact that they are probably gonna get killed for money very soon and that most of us are part of the system that is to blame for that. Sure: maybe that place is a sanctuary or an organic farm where they don't murder them, but I don't think that's the case.

I know it’s not realistic because technically we are animals too and in order to live and eat you have to eat another organism but seeing stuff like this really opens your eyes to how sentient these beings we call animals really are. At the very least they should all be treated humanely and with respect. I think we haven’t even scratched the surface yet in understanding how complex their feelings and emotions truly are. Maybe with brain scans and future technology we will figure it out. I hope I live long enough to see it.

Therefore, protect all animals!!! They are just like us!! Don’t eat them too! Be kind, thoughtful and loving to all animals! If you don’t like it, they don’t either!!

I don’t think an alligator would think twice about eating someone. Same for a bear. I think I’ll continue to eat cows. 👌🏼 🎶it’s the circle of life🎶

Emiline Bellé those animals you listed are losing their natural habitats, source of food ... they don’t have many choices given their situation. And no not all large animals would attack humans, only if they have been threatened or starved. Humans have choices and ability to be disciplined for the greater good of the planet and species.

@@MeimeiLovesmusic 🤣🤣🤣🤣 I got a good laugh out of that, thanks. Now I know why the world is the way it is. I’m still going to enjoy meat because that’s how it’s suppose to be.

Because we are disgusting creatures. And instead of doing genuinely good things with our superior brains and hands, we give in to greed and war as we slaughter billions of animals a year for our insatiable hunger for meat. It is disgraceful! SHAME ON HUMANITY!

The orangutan was amazing. wets cloth and twists it to removes excess so he can cool his face. Quite intelligent, especially if he wasn't taught that. He may have picked that up from his keepers when they wiped his face when he was young and liked it.

I thought the one with the two little boys playing with the toy caruch to the entertainment of the sea creature (a seal or sea lion? I'm not sure) was very touching. Providing the animals with a bit of entertainment without even knowing it is pretty wholesome.

We raised chickens and one of them bonded to me. Seeing that chicken greet the girl getting off the bus brought back a few fond memories during an otherwise dark and dreary time in my life. I was probably the same age as that girl too. My chicken was white. The breed was leghorn. He was an awesome bird.

Wow that’s so strange but cool. I kinda want a snake. I’d give it a big space to live though cause their usually kept in tiny glass boxes. Can’t even move much.
