My favorite part of this whole video is noticing how many improvements AW has been able to make to the habitats in the past few years! The cavies and the chinchillas now live in a huge, dirt-filled room with tons of space to dig and run. Joy and Scarlet have their own big room with hanging perches where they can truly spread their wings. Huckleberry has his "lodge" and "pond" where he can live his best beaver life. The habitats were *never* bad or inappropriate, but now they are just so much better.

You take such good care of your animals, and it is clear they flourish and thrive in your care. I love the lengths you go to in giving them enrichment and interaction to give them a life as close to their natural life in the wild as possible. Wishing you, your team, and all your critters a happy 2022.🖤🇨🇦

Oh, that's cool, I never thought about keeping cavys with guinea pigs. As strange as that may sound. Lol. I see guineas and capybaras together all the time, but not a lot of people have cavys. I guess I tend to think of them like lagomorphs (even though they aren't) and that's why I never had them together.

So, when transferring enrichment items between animals, do you always sanitize them completely, or when safe do you sometimes leave the scent of the other animals on them as further enrichment. I just imagine the second animal smelling something from an entirely different continent and going ????? as they try and figure it out

I have SO MANY QUESTIONS about Ringo the raccoon! I want to make a video game where the player plays as a raccoon exploring a post-apocalyptic paradise where there are no humans anymore. There would be cityscapes to climb and loot, and parkour through as well as environmental puzzles and hazards! What kind of foods does Ringo eat? Do you have footage of him climbing man-made structures like brick? What does Ringo do in the winter when it gets cold? Just how intelligent is he and how intelligent do you think an "evolved" raccoon might be ~100 years into the future? Do you think a raccoon would be capable of making weapons (like a spear) or maybe even learning to read?
@DragonBornish2 жыл бұрын
This sounds really interesting. Please keep working on it 😊 if I may give some feedback, I think that the weapons part might be a bit too far. If it had learnt how to read, it could be really funny and interesting to see how it would interpret our language and world through its own eyes. Kind of like an alien language that it doesn't quite understand the context of.
@alicianoriegavelasco61142 жыл бұрын
Just a bit of feedback: Evolution takes a much longer time than ~100 years. You might need to add at least a couple of zeros to the end of that number of you're thinking of having your characters acquire complex skills that would need a much more developed brain, like compound tools or human-like language abilities.
@3nertia2 жыл бұрын
@@alicianoriegavelasco6114 Thank you for your input but I'm not the kind of person to have not thought things through and have my reasons for things as they are. I originally thought about making it a thousand years or more but I have some (in my opinion) pretty compelling reasons to leave it as is :) Rapid evolution isn't unheard of either, if the driving force is large enough ;)
@medea272 жыл бұрын
@@3nertia Not sure whether you've already checked them out, but there are a few videos in AWM's back catalog about Ringo that answer some of your questions... the types of foods they feed him, the types of things he likes for behavioural enrichment, etc. There's his intro video ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/pp_IgWl-pb2MnNU ) & another one specifically all about raccoons ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKDUkqRjZ9irjbc ) but he also shares the screen with other animals in other videos where they talk about his needs. 👍

What is the benefit of yogurt for possums? I'm informed they dont take to milk product but do go for fermented and processed milks. Rabbits are known not to get any benefit from yogurts now. We've never offered them as treats or supplement. There have been many recommended foods over the decades but a good many of them have been settled as noneffective or disruptive to their health at times. Since possums arent domesticated and dont have cumulative generations of research for their behalf ive been worried about how best to offer care in an emergency. Some suggestions ive reveived I believe may have had a deeply negative impact.
