It’s funny. Huckleberry and I train the same way. He gets a click when he hits the target, followed by treats. I get a treat the moment this channel shows up in my you tube feed. So great!

Aww he jumped slightly at the clicker.. Since he has such keen hearing maybe there is a softer noise to be used. He is ABSOLUTELY adorable. I have never in my life seen such a close up view of a beaver.

10 66 Humans are weird 😉 They probably use a fairly sensitive microphone though, to capture all the little sounds the animals make...maybe that makes the sound of the clicker sound sharper than it is. I‘ve wondered about it as well, but I‘ve never seen the animals flinch or try to get away from it.

I’m glad to see that you’re putting a great emphasis on target training! In future episodes you feature this training it might be quite worthwhile to emphasize that many common actions, like a dog giving high five are also targeting exercises; Worthwhile to emphasize the targeting doesn’t have to be nose/beak/tongue to a target stick, but it could be a paw to hand or butt to floor. Would really help to elucidate the value of this kind of training brings. I think you and bird tricks really have begun a great job in showcasing this underrated trick.

Man he's getting big. And what, that's only...half-size? Less than half? He looks to be in the 25-30 lb range (maybe not quite that, it's hard to tell with all the fur), and I've seen adult beavers in the wild who are in the 60 lb range (although average weight is probably not quite that high). And he's bloody adorable too. Definitely my favorite of the Animal Wonders Montana ambassadors (although Chili Pepper, Kizmit and of course, Kemosabe are also AMAZING). What good fortune for Huck that he got taken in by this incredible woman and her organization. And I suspect he's going to do a great job of educating people about his species and the MASSIVE role they play in a healthy ecosystem. People here sometimes view beavers as pests who flood roads and property in their never-ending quest to disrupt the drainage of water...it bears remembering that WE'RE the pests, the ones who are having a large and mostly adverse impact on the world. The beavers are just doing their job. They're one of the most important species in North America, living in EVERY US State except Hawaii, and every Canadian province/territory. Without beavers, so many other species would be threatened, since the aquatic habitat beavers create is key to the survival of dozens of other plant and animal species. As such, they are considered a keystone species, critical to the preservation of high biodiversity throughout their range. And they're charismatic as hell! It's no accident that here in Canada they're our national animal! Industrious, intelligent and important to most North American ecosystems, beavers are a super interesting animal.

I do this with all my dogs. Such a handy & easy to teach trick/way to communicate. I use to fingers held out like a "pistol" just because I always have them with me, and it's great if you're out & your dog is getting stressed by something you can distract it by saying hey touch this look over here, not the scary person/dog. Or if I'm trying to tell them hey get off that chair I can use target training to steer them off. It's so handy, it's great to see you use it with other animals.

Hi, I loved the video and Huckleberry (as per usual), also congratulations on 300 episodes! On a different note, last night one of my cockatiels had a night fright and a blood feather under the wing, luckily we had styptic powder on hand and were able to calm her down and stop the bleeding, she’s doing fine now. My point is that we had to access under the wing and regular towelling methods didn’t apply, we had to improvise and there is always a worry wether they can breath or not when you aren’t properly restraining them. Do you have any tips on what to do in a situation like this, not this one in particular but a situation where standard methods don’t apply, particularly urgent ones, they really don’t have a lot of blood to lose. Thanks in advance! On another different note, how’s Cas doing? I hope he’s making a great recovery!

Poor little guy looks like the clicker startles him every time! Lol Would a quieter clicker be more pleasant/productive for him? Maybe I'm wrong & it sounds way louder in the vid then in person but it could be harder to keep him engaged because the treats aren't worth the scare :P Again, I'm basing this solely on what I saw in this video & have zero experience in this area so apologies if I'm talking directly from my anus 😂

Every time we see him he is so much bigger and smarter your doing such a good job with him. I know there not your pets but after a tough day or if something is really bothering you do you ever just realax with any of the animals or ever just hang out with them for fun ? Or do you strictly look after them and train them for there benefit obviously you get something out of that as well.

And they get quite a bit bigger! Part of the reason is that when you see them in the wild they are often 90% under water so you can only see their faces, so it’s easy to underestimate their sizes.
