I use AE a lot but i almost never use a path. Since i never use templates and i only want to make my projects from zero, i looked for this kind of video rather than premade templates. And, well, i found this video~ Your explanations are brief and easy to be understood while not taking much time.

Hey Andrzej, thanks for this tutorial. Do you have any tips for making smoother curves? I'm looping an animation around perfect-circles, and it's pretty clear my path isn't as nuanced.

Hi mate, I'm not entirely sure what do you mean by a smoother curve, if you want a perfect circle you have the shape tool ready, just click on it and change it from a rectangle to a circle and you will make perfect circles by holding down shift when you create them!

No, don't think that. AE is so complex that over time I forget some things and need to watch my tutorials as well haha. It's almost impossible if you make any type of break to stay in the loop and know how to animate everything - but I can tell you after time there are patterns that get embedded in your brain. I am working in AE for many years and it's my go-to program alongside Photoshop, PowerPoint, Illustrator and Inkscape (and a couple video editing ones) so I always stay around them, so that kinda helps to remember everything but it is also my daily work so thats normal

Either I would use motion tracking or I would just set trim path keyframes wherever the finger moves. First I would make a line that matches t he finger movement then I would slowly animate it ;)

Well you can render out anything you do in after effects as an Animated Gif with Adobe Media Encoder so creating a gif is no problem in itself. The animation should be rather short then because gifs can get a little heavy if they are longer and larger resolution. I think gif would be a pretty good idea :)

I'd like to generate bitmaps based on the start/endpoint and step-size of a particular path of motion... For example, could I import a bitmap, and then specify some portion of it to move along a specified path, and then have AE generate all the bitmaps in between? If not, do you know of any tool that does? (I'm using IcoFx to create the icon-sized bitmaps, but unfortunately, it doesn't support any animation functionality).

Hey Ben, I answered yet my message got deleted. Basically you will not be able to do this, especially to a high quality degree which you are most likely aiming for. After Effects has a few tricks to fill in blank frames with pixels, but what you specifically expect, to basically create an animation between two bitmaps is highly unlikely, maybe with a 3rd party plugin which does exactly this. You can eventually watch a tutorial on "morphing png images" but I think the results from this technique won't be close to what you are looking for. Something like this would be easier if you have vector paths and have actual vectors to work with, because bitmaps are not well handled within ae in terms of animating them. I won't be able to help you with this issue, perhaps there is a workaround for that but I haven't really heard or worked with such one. Good luck!
