Great video, thanks for sharing. In some ways I like the limitations of Camtasia because of the speed at which you can get things done. Nice to know animation such as this can be done without heading back to After Effects etc too.

I wish Camtasia would allow objects to follow a curved path that you specify. Not only in 2d, but in 3D as well. Is this possible in the latest version of Camtasia?

Not really, a video in Camtasia is a finite project, and individual clips and animations only run from start to end. Camtasia doesn't support expressions and loops like AfterEffects yet.

Nice one! I was playing with it and think I found an even simpler & little more elegant technique. Create the guide shape and the circle shape to animate like you do to start. Snap the circle to the top of the circle guide as you do. Add a rectangle shape and size / snap the top of it to the top of the circle. Then, move the circle to the bottom of the guide circle, and size the rectangle shape to snap to the sides and bottom of the circle. Set the opacity of the rectangle to zero. Group the circle and rectangle. Now you can just use a Rotation on the Z axis animation of 360 (or -360 to rotate clockwise) on the group and it will animate in a perfect circle. Delete the guide shape. What do you think? Thanks for the inspiration!
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 жыл бұрын
That sounds like the clip you want to animate would also be turned upside down during the rotation, no? Unless I’m misunderstanding what you propose, that is not what I am after in this case. While I did animate a circle, imagine the circle were a video clip.
@LonNaylor
@LonNaylor 3 жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious Yep, you're right. Works great for a circle but other objects (even a different shape like a star) will rotate. Still not a bad effect for shapes. I tried to offset it with a counter rotation on the shape but the timing is off because the objects are different sizes. I'll keep playing with it. Thanks.
@teddshh

Rotate the inner clip in the opposite direction inside the group. That way it'll stay upright as it rotates around the outer edge of the grouped shape. Outer group - rotate to 359 degrees, inner clip, rotate to -359 degrees.

I was wondering if you could show us how to make two slightly merged, different colour circles (i.e. a ven diagram) revovle around each other fast until they merge into one circle and change colour so it's a blend of both circle colours? Thanks again.

How to create a hollow circle in Camtasia? (meaning, just round borders should be displayed)
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 4 жыл бұрын
You can use the annotations section, to to the top of the panel and choose to show 'All' annotations. There should be a circle one. Add it to your canvas and then on the right side properties panel, change its outline and fill.
@SandipBhattacharya
@SandipBhattacharya 4 жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious But, I found a solution. Just by giving an outline, say, with thickness 7, and changing the Opacity to 0% for the Shape, gives a hollow circle.

Here's a suggestion. After you group, pop open the group, move to the start of the group and remove the internal animations. Now you have a big group and the circle is at one end of the group. So if you just rotate the group around it's center that little circle on the edge will rotate perfectly around in a circle since the distance from the center of the group to the center of the circle that is in the group remains constant.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I know what you're saying but imagine if the circle wasn't a circle, but a video clip. It would turn upside down. But with the method in this video, the clip would always stay vertical AND move in a circle motion. I guess my example was not very fortunate, since I chose a circle, but the idea is to make anything go around in a circle and maintain its orientation.
@DesignXstream
@DesignXstream 4 жыл бұрын
How about just using an annotation shape with 4x the size of the object and placing the object at the very end and group it. This would make the anchor point of the group in the centre and you can just rotate the group to get the same circle path effect!
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, but your object would rotate when you rotate your group. If you have a video clip of a person, and you are trying to make it move in a circle, it will turn them upside down and so on. Rotating a group doesn't keep the contents of the group vertical.
@DesignXstream
@DesignXstream 4 жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious Even in that scenario, I would do the same thing. Just use clockwise rotation on the group & anti-clockwise rotation on the object. Here is a quick sample I made: imgur.com/gallery/k0Px22M
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 4 жыл бұрын
That is cool, I didn't think of that. Yes, it works that way too. The problem I can see with that off the bat is that the two animations need to be perfectly synchronised. Good one!

Nice tehchnic, but I think it would be easier if had put four same objects at the corner of circle and then making those 5 five objects, including bigger circle, a group. If you rotate this group around y axis then all four objects will return around the circle. Remove three of them if you need only one.
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 4 жыл бұрын
It's possible, although with some limitations. The group creates its own 'scene' and if an object is then animated and would come out of this area, it would get cut off. Also, I am not sure if the group, once you remove the three circles, it would rotate the same way. I'd have to test it. Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@blvrglu
@blvrglu 4 жыл бұрын
@@Graphicious thanks I haven't known this scene issue for groups. The idea of other three circle is about the making the center of the group at the bigger circle. So, deleting them after grouping should not change the center. Loved your videos on the hand, thanks again :)
@Graphicious
@Graphicious 4 жыл бұрын
Your method might work when you JUST work with circles. But if you want to have a different clip or shape, such as a video clip, spin in a circle like this, you can't do it with your method because it would rotate the actual clip upside-down. With the method in this video you can have any object spin in a circle, no matter the size or shape.
