Thats actually really interesting to see. Opens up a lot of possibilities and ideas. Taking the deck with u instead of a Laptop during longer/lightweight travel and so on. Def would love to see more tests!

Thank you. This is the very specific use case I wanted to buy the deck for ever since it got revealed. I have loose 2 hours every day at school when I don't have access to my PC, but I don't have anything to do either. It would be great to spend it productively with the deck so I can rest more at home.

Blender and maya both work on linux (SteamOS). That would be a more interesting video.

@@jeandenishaas i could imagine that blender via discover via the kde plasma desktop of the steam deck is a better idea, but that can be tested

To reconfigure the controls in Windows go to Steam > settings > controller > desktop configuration. You'll see a window pop up in the Big Picture Mode UI with a DualShock 4 as a placeholder but all the buttons can be remapped there. The two touchpads are two squares above the controller image. The 4 grip buttons are in empty spaces to the left and right side so if you click around there you'll be able to find how to map each button.

Hey. I wanted to ask if it runs even better by now after 8 months? And at 6:43 where you move the window, it looks like there is touch input lag. Is there input lag or does it just look like it? Thanks in advance :)

I would've tried akeytsu on it, screen remains small so a big UI guy like maya or blender is perhaps too tiny, I don't know, but it's still very interesting !

Valve pls realease the deck in my country the more vids i watch about the deck the more i want to buy it man with the Docking station it basically turns into a desktop and us can just unplug it and take it with you anywhere you want imagine using blender on the go its almost terrifying

Would love to see something with integrating the - Elgato Stream Deck Plus - with Maya (I actually clicked on this video thinking it was "Stream" not "Steam") 🤪 (Still cool to see, but not what I was looking for.... Cheers)

Why didn't run blender and maya on desktop mode without windows. You can use wine/lutris for maya. And blender is open source and is available as an AUR of a flatpack.

I was really surprised. It has everything I need for remote and wacom support, where the ipad can't with 3D remote.

Won't the batteries degrade faster if it's plugged in 24/7? Can't remove the batteries and use the steamdeck with ac power right?

@@jeandenishaas amazing that in 2023 you can run MAYA on a handheld device. Back in the day I had to use a $70,000 SGI computer on top of paying for Maya Power Animator to sorta work..... next we will run Maya on our iphone...which it properly could....AMAZING

I’ve never used either, I’ll see if I can find a good demo scene for them. You can install it, but a scene will show you the performance.

I don't know anything about animation software (or PC requirements.) Would the steam deck be suitable for 2d animation/art? If not, then what would you recommend for PC requirements for 2d animation/art content creation? Please be super simple if you respond, as I truly have no idea and don't want a sales person to up sell me into something I wouldn't need. Thank you sir.

I would use an iPad and the Apple Pencil instead. Lots of great drawing and animation apps on it.

@@ryancaspersen5284 I mean you can install Windows on the Deck and then use a tablet with a pen instead of a mouse and then animate in 2D. I would think a Cintiq could also work but then you then you need an adapter for the 3-1 cable.

@@jeandenishaas I'm a 3d generalist, I work a lot with game asset modeling and archiviz, archiviz might require more power due to the polycount In those scenes, a laptop has a bigger screen and actual keyboard, but the idea of having such a powerful pc in a such a small machine is amazing... Well it runs blender, gimp, web browsers, and probably runs substance painter since it's in steam and native to Linux, damn I need one lol

@@jeandenishaas You've shown blender and it seems to be good, may I ask you to check the demo scenes for blender?, like those from the startup screens, these tend to be heavier, if it run that it can run anything I do.

you dont even need windows for that, you can install blender or maya on linux, im not sure about instaling maya on steam deck, due to it being a imutable filesystem, but there are blender flatpacks for that. i really recomend trying blender/maya on linux, its faster, the former is faster, the later probably is too.

blender is availible on the steam store and runs faster on Linux and 3DS Maya Runs on Linux too so why use windows???

Blender runs on Steam OS just fine, you don't need Windows.

You honestly do not need to install Windows to do this. Both Maya and Blender run on Linux, and in the case of Blender it actually runs better on Linux than Windows.
