I completely agree! Having a positive experience with something that seems off-putting at first is so important for appreciating different things. In my case, it was the stylised scenes in the anime Kill la Kill that really introduced me to it, haven't looked back since.

Granted I have never played Dead Cells, I found the whole show on KZbin and enjoyed it a lot, thought it was one of the most dynamic paced, charming, efficient animated shows I've ever seen. It even managed to surprise me with its plot twists near the end and I really loved the characters and small world building that we get. Was disappointed, yet not surprised, to its reception.

Hi everyone! Just wanted to let you know that an English dub of Dead Cells: Immortalis has now been announced! It should begin airing on October 8th (presumably on the ADN KZbin channel). I'm not going to be watching it personally, since I think the French version is great already, but for those who'd rather watch in English it's on the way!

I tried the English dub, and although I think the voice acting is pretty good, I couldn’t get past just how unsynced the new voices were with the animations. Granted, someone could see a lot of charm in a silly series like this doing such, but I prefer the original French version.

i genuinely really hated the first 3-4 episodes but after that it grew on me and i ended up enjoying it, there's also a lot of things that activated the "find lore" part of my brain and i started putting pieces together and making unconfirmed head canons of what made sense to me. I look forward to episode 11, i hope they end up doing more

I recently played the game before watching the show and the show is pretty good. I think tge break neck pace fits the style of the game and the humor is super tailored to the characters and world they live in. I personally give it an 8/10

I was expecting a faithful adaptation of the story with major themes of decay, renewal, and perseverance set in a gloomy island with a filthy but fluid art style... i mean yeah this is pretty cool too

I do think it would have been pretty difficult for the studio to capture those themes which tend to evolve as you yourself develop throughout the game though, especially with the shorter format, so I can understand why they took the comedy route, I hope you can find some fun in what we got regardless dude!

Yo I loved this! You definitely explained and captured the shows style really well and why it’s captivating! I think something that could also be touched on is how well the characters work together, how clever their dynamic is, and how nicely they are developed. The show also isn’t just jokes and laughs, but it has deep touching moments too, esp in the last few eps, and Bobbypills + ADN do a really good job at making those heartfelt scenes not seem out of place. @@RaineReaver Oh yeah, that makes sense, but I would argue that those points are also quite strong. I mean when Bobbypills and ADN have advertised DCI, they’ve described it as having “a lot of laughs, and a lot of feels”, and id also mention how FF and Laure’s relationship development is the most important focal point of the story besides the plot. Both of them gave up on their goals because they cared about each other (FF going to save Laure even without the sword of truth, and Laure sacrificing herself so she wouldn’t kill him). Their dynamic is endearing (I am their number 1 shipper so I am biased) and the character development is strong along with its comedy. I wouldn’t see it as a “side attribute” but but more as like something that coincides with each other. However, I definitely get your reasoning since it IS marked as a comedy after all

I'll admit, my introduction to the series started off a bit rocky. I was aware of the animated adaptation of the game for a while. However, when I didn't hear about any news regarding it and looking it up here, my first response to this shows existence was: "Wait, this it it?" Not so much disappointment or anger, but confusion. I genuinely thought this was a fan show at first glance, and I was hesitant to watch it at first. Eventually, I did rip the bandaid off and gave it a watch, and I wasn't disappointed. I will agree, it's not for everyone, far from it. But that's why I like it so much, it gives it a unique flavor. If any of you guys are on the fence about it, I'd give it a watch. It doesn't ask for much, and doesn't take itself too seriously. You won't regret it.

I just watched the whole season and it is super good! I have never seen anything related to Dead Cells (outside of the skin in ror2), also the humour was perfect for me. I have never evolved past 5th grade humour, I’m a little more picky with it, but can still enjoy a good fart joke when I see one

i am french and to be fair, our voice actor makes the relationship of both protagonists a cliché of a disfoncionnal french couple (harsh tone, talking at the same time, cursing the other, etc... well a very trashy relationship). This and the pretty absurd and dirty jokes really isn't the kind of cartoon i like. despite this, the story is pretty interesting and it fits to the game.

There are definitely quite a few clichés, that's for sure, but the way they were handled (in addition to the speed at which they came and went) ensured they never made me feel like the show was leaning on any single one personally. Existing Dead Cells fan here of around five years. The animation of the show is fine, I can live with it. What I can't live with, however, is the amount of attempts at childish humor that brings the tone in the complete opposite direction of the game and the amount of existing characters from the game that aren't in the show. The tonal change, while jarring, is understandable, but cutting out most of the game's characters to shove in their own originals is something that baffles me. Haven't seen it, not planning on seeing it. Glad some people actually like it though.

Yeah, I am actually not a big fan of this. The art style is absolute trash, the world doesn't have the atmosphere of the game, the story is retconned, the beheaded is totally incompetent and the episodes are very short. The only thing I like is the beheaded's personality and english voice actor. The humor is also nice, but the rest is just not good.
