Tick is expensive, so is binding a widget to something that does not need to change until it needs to. Put a Print String on that binding and watch the magic. An Event Dispatcher or even a call to a custom event would be better.

You are free to code your own solution. I used tick because it’s one of the only few ways to run code smoothly and consistently. Print strings only work in debugs and the point on the video was for a progress bar. Tick is only expensive for complex functions, if what you do is complex you can add a component from c++ or compress the logic from c++ to a single blueprint node. As for binding events to a widget it’s necessary. 90% of the engine runs on tick, just use it at your own discretion. In certain cases it is unavoidable.
