Hi Aaron. I'm a cg animator working in feature. First of all thank you so much for these wonderful videos. Not only are they informative they are also just great fun to hear about your time in feature animation. Although I greatly appreciate your animation knowledge I'd love to see more about about you workflow when it comes to painting digitally.

So it's actually not too far from the rules for live-action acting: Don't over-act. One thing I find interesting is that the final animation from the film is actually *less* overacted than the thumbnail.

hello Aaron, you are too good in explaining the principle of animation and other stuffs too, I liked you channel very much got good knowledge and wait for more to learn. I am an animator but doing story boarding for one project. I like animation the most. Can you please upload some videos in which you can show some scene you are animating and explaining so that we can see how you deal with that scene. Please, I am really waiting eagerly for you uploads...

I'm working on an illustrated book at the moment and I feel this advice is great for single images too. Really thinking about the key points in posture and movement to capture that one still frame that best portrays what the character is feeling and expressing in the scene. It really helps drawing out several thumbnails of the overall actions of the character/s to find that one key moment that tells the story. Love your videos and watching them all for a second time to refresh on your advice.

I would also learn body language and study the way actors move. It's really rewarding. You are a great animator Aaron. I will never work for the big studios. Too far away for a start. Still, I love animation and will continue to get better at it. Your videos are really inspiring.

Aaron, thanks so much for doing a video on animation, restraint is a great tip to keep fresh in mind. I bought your videos on animating the cat, I love seeing a traditional workflow since I grew up wanting so much to be a traditional animator. I'm still working hard now on becoming an animator and any more insight you can give on process and workflow for acting scenes would be invaluable even in my cg efforts. Thanks so much, J.

Hi, Aaron. Thank you so much for your videos! One thing I've been DYING to know more of is how long it takes these wonderful animators, you among them, to make these great sequences. Throughout my learning we were presented with countless examples of finished scenes, shots, pencil tests, sketches, development processes, etc. But NO ONE ever told us, "Yeah, Pinocchio getting sick from smoking a cigar took 28 hours..." or 100 hours...whatever it took. I know that for myself and my confreres, not knowing in real terms how long a given animation shot or sequence took in terms of actual hours created unrealistic expectations as well as disappointments and disillusionment. Certain false assumptions that would creep in were, "Oh well, the software would make it easier," or "they're just really good," or "with a good rig, I could do that," or "it's close enough." If I know that X took 40 hours, then I can prepare myself in my mind to expend that much energy and see what I come up with and compare and contrast it afterwards. Thank you!

Thoroughly enjoying your video tips. I wanted to become an animator after high school - 1958 - no cg then, actually no 'puters either. I loved your reference to waving your hands around when you talk, My dad and his family came from Italy and most of us wave our hands all over the place when we talk!!!!

thank you, that is a good point, I think that may be an issue for me, make the character more lifelike. what i struggle with is when would be a good time to add comic relief, i know you prolly can't answer that without context. just wanted to say thank you for your videos

I love you ! I am going to watch all of your videos ... I have always wanted to make animated music videos to my own music ... But I can't even draw, never mind actually animate something, but hopefully I can learn some useful stuff through these videos and maybe get the confidence and (more importantly) patience to try and see an animated video through.

This is an great viewpoint. It reminded me of a birthday card I did for a friend. I had a lot of movement of the text falling into place going on but, this video made me think about how to bring character to the text and not so much movement. Would love to see how you would approach that kind of a situation.
