I've seen countless videos on this topic but this one is the first to actually make sense in my head. Thank you.

Spacing is, personally, one of my favorite things to experiment with. You can get all kinds of different speeds, motions, and even weight depending on how you space your drawings. 👀
@AnimatorIsland5 жыл бұрын
It's so crazy how changing the spacing can totally change an animation. And sometimes just one frame more or one frame less can feel so different.
@B14z3rather4 жыл бұрын
@@AnimatorIsland yeah like if you made a line barely moving then hit a wall and have huge spacing it might look faster

The strange thing about a "snappy animation" I've heard that term both used as a compliment and a negative critique. I guess it depends on the situation.
@AnimatorIsland5 жыл бұрын
Yeah it definitely depends on what style you are going for. There is some excellent snappy animation in Hotel Transylvania or Wonder Over Yonder and it really fits there. There certainly are animators who would strongly prefer a realistic over a snappy cartoony style, but both has its purpose, both can be done extremely well. Really interesting topic.

Sometimes you may want a linear motion though, such as in the "drawing" animation I am working on for the intro sequence for my cartoon (basically, in part of the intro the stuff is slowly drawn in, first in wireframe, then slowly filled with colors - that sort of thing looks best with linear motion based on my experiments). //edit: Also nice to see more people using OpenToonz, though I prefer Tahoma.

I am confused. Is the spacing supposed to between the actual drawings (while the frames are constantly spaced on timeline) or is spacing between the frames on the time line?
@AnimatorIsland4 жыл бұрын
Spacing is the distance of the lines of the actual drawing from one frame to the next. The distance of moments on the timeline is called timing. Yeah, it can be quite confusing :)
