I met David Silverman years ago at a showcase of Simpsons animation cells . It was also the book launch for Planet Simpson, which was basically societal commentary viewed through The Simpsons lens. Anyway, I was covering this show as a student journalist and I had been there all day interviewing people and taking pictures. The curator of the show which was the owner of a store called Animation Connection was so happy about the work that I put in and that I had been there all day, that he had David Silverman draw me a Mr Burns head in appreciation. I even got to take my picture with Mr Silverman and he was such a nice guy. Just the salt of the earth. I'm so glad you had him on.

For VFX, you should do the 1996 Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Trials & Tribblations" where the DS9 crew gets sent back to the Original Series era by a Bajoran orb, and we get to see the present day actors interact with Shatner, Nimoy, etc. in the 1960s episode. This episode was part of the franchise's 30th anniversary celebration.

I've long wondered why, say, the moving arm of an HB cartoon character was a slightly different shade than the shoulder to which it was attached. I knew it was on a separate acetate sheet, but I never considered the "not so perfect" transparency of that plastic sheet would act as a "filter" to the cels and background plate beneath it, ever so slightly washing out those colors so an exact match was next to impossible. In retrospect, it makes so much sense! I now feel like an idiot!

The part I found interesting was the fact that any time you DON'T notice it on an older cartoon it's because they perfectly offset the color saturation on the sheets to compensate for that effect ... I hadn't thought about that before

Great episode! I've been a fan of the Simpsons since the Tracey Ullman days. I remember being very excited when the show was announced. I also remember filling a VHS tape with the Christmas Special in 1989 and the subsequent first season in 1990. Wish I hung onto that. It's mind blowing that it is still on air.

Wow, this episode was such a treat to me. I'm a lifelong Simpsons fan. I'm that one guy still arguing and defending the show, even the most recent seasons.
