I would maybe go for something with a basic MMA look with light weaponry like pistols however it’d have a support unit which is an eagle wing pack but the talons are heavy arms custom levels of heavy weapon and the tail feathers would be funnels that fire missiles all in red white and blue colors

When we are talking an ‘American’ Gundam design that follows the stereotypes people assume, it goes only one of two ways: bunch of crazy like the Maxter (with the option of it looking a bit like a sports car and/or packing a bigger gun like, say, the Heavyarms’ mini gun or the Dynames’ sniper rifle) or grim-dark “all mission no frills” militaristic (which technically would make it a ‘regular’ Gundam design in a series full of unorthodox tongue-in-cheek models).

The A-10 Warthog and the Gau-8. It has a gun that puts out so much bullet that it MATCHES the thrust of one of the engines. It's also a plane so tough that some have landed missing most of their wings and with no hydraulics because they still have physical controls as a backup.

The whole "cultural appropriation"/"overly-sensitive crybaby" attitude seems to primarily come from the Anglosphere (US, Australian, Canadian, British) and some Western Europeans. From what I can tell, peoples with a history of Spanish colonization (so Latin American countries, but also Filipinos) actually don't usually mind these kinds of stereotypes, especially if it means they get represented at all (and hey in this case, you get a freaking gundam to represent you, how is that not awesome, even if it doesn't win/isn't the main characters). To get them offended would actually require showing these stereotypes in a very negative light (like if Neo-Mexico's pilot was a dumb, crass, drug addict or something). But by themselves, exaggerated visual caricatures like Tequila Gundam aren't bad (just maybe tacky).

As a first generation American whose family immigrated from Mexico, my older brother and I LOVED the Spike Gundam and found it hilarious it was named Tequila Gundam in the original Japanese. We were never offended and my grandpa who would watch tv with us and watched this series would cheer when he showed up. He didn't understand the story or what was being said just liked the fights. But yeah this series is a mess and its a guilty pleasure of my older brothers and mine. We used to watch this after school on toonami when ever it was on. we still quote Domon's shiny finger catch phrase. Thanks Sage fort his great video and a wonderful trip down memory lane!

Just so everyone knows ( especially you Sage) GGundam is a Go Nagai plot: The story of a deadly machine used to help humanity, brother dying / sacrificing himself, plus the overly dramatic hatred of pilot flowing into the robot being piloted- was used in Mazinger, Getter Robo, etc. The director/ creator of G also directed some of Nagai's other anime titles, and even was inspired by his character artstyle. Finally, this director also created the fantastic reboot ova of Giant Robo in the 90s! Go watch the Anime Hero's channel for FULL coverage on Go Nagai titles and influence.

G Gundam has always had a special place in my heart. Back when Toonami was on Cartoon Network and Gundam Wing was on I couldn't get into it mostly because to a 9/10-year-old me, I was not really interested in the war and politic talks that the shows go on and on about and while the space battles were cool it wasn't enough for me to stick around. Then G-Gundam came around and immediately I was hooked from the first episode. It has the action, the kick-ass characters and awesome Gundam designs that the kid me didn't even care that they were based on stereotypes while nowadays I just laugh at. I love this show and made me a Gundam fan. While the rest of the Gundam shows didn't click with me with Iron-Blooded Orphans being the exception, G-Gundam still holds up for me and I do go back to it every now and again. Also favorite Gundams: Shining/Burning Gundam, Master Gundam, Dragon Gundam, Shadow Gundam, Mandala Gundam, and Nobel Gundam (Yes it's a Sailor Moon Gundam but I still love it! Oh and Allenby is best girl hands down!) But yeah love G-Gundam, wish it had a continuation in the anime, and while there are some manga for the show I've yet to find them. Anyway, thanks for covering G-Gundam and see ya next year Sage!

I don't think Mexicans really care about Tequila Gundam's design. They look at it as endearing as Speedy Gonzales. Yeah, they recognize it as a stereotype, but a laughably flattering one, Especially considering how alot of Hispanic humor tends to be crude and politically incorrect. As for themes of inspiration, The Shura Empire from SRW Compact 3 and OG Gaiden seem to have taken a cue from G Gundam, built an entire culture based around Kung Fu fighting Super Robots designed after Demons from Hindu and Abrahamic Demonology, and infused characters and tropes from Fist of the North Star Into the Mix. I Kind of see now how they fucked up their own world after 2000 years of martial arts themed mech warfare and decided to come after Earth. In regards to Gundam Wing being more popular than G Gundam, I find this quite disconcerting, seeing that I find Domon as a character more entertaining than all five of Wing's "Gundam Boys" combined. Yeah, he's an Idiot, but he's an amusingly insane one.

That and Hajime Katoki's rendition of Deathscythe Hell is fucking Bad-ass. Duo is sort of a living Oxymoron. the Grim Reaper "Real" robot piloted by a Cheery Catholic Extrovert. Kind of like me, an Flirtatious, upbeat, Latina at the helm of a war machine that looks like the Madcat mated with the mobile infantry armor.

This review was alright, better than I would expect even. I think the narrative issues you brought up aren’t really issues cause they make sense in the context of the show and what the characters are going through. The first half while more motw, does serve a purpose in building up to what the show has in it’s characters and setting. As for the designs and outlook on other countries, Yeah it is obviously stereotypical, but in the show itself it’s not really done to offend or even joke around. The intent of it never came across as malicious to me, especially when one of the themes in the show is nationality, which plays a big part at the end of the show in how all the mobile fighter gundams unite to fight the dark gundam. That said , I can agree Imagawa is a big factor in how G gundam turned out the way it did. The fact that he went through all of that and turned it out as well as it did, is something that makes me appreciate the show more than I did. For me, G gundam out of the AU timelines is easily the best, besides Gundam X, and up there with Zeta as my favorite in the series. It does have it issues, sure, but with it’s story, characters, some of it’s design work, and the fantastic music by Kohei Tanaka makes it imo one of the best mech shows of all time.

The first half does a good job at establishing the main and supporting cast. It also serves a purpose in-universe as Domon is still in his obsessive phase and is going around beating up other representatives to find out of any of them has had contact with Kiyoji. It's definitely NOT pointless. Among other things, it shows that Domon is a hothead who can be callous to those closest to him but does have a heart. He's simply traumatized and with a massive murderboner after what happened during his absence and believing his brother was responsible. Plus the Super Mode is powered by rage, and his handlers have no problem in psychologically torturing him with hallucinations in order to keep him on target.

Oh come off it sage. I don't believe for a moment that a lot of people were offended by G Gundam. Hell, I think a lot of people enjoyed seeing their cultures, which are rarely seen in anime, being presented. Like, I'm sure there are tons of kids from mexico who LOVE tequila gundam, as he was their countries representation in one of their favorite shows. And the Tequila Gundam was BAD. ASS. And the Build Diver's version was even MORE bad ass. Also, please do a LITTLE bit more thought when denouncing things. Portugal was a clown because CARNIVAL. You know, the HUGE catholic holiday they celebrate? Really the only point you had was Sweden's Gundam. That was done purely for fanservice. If the Sailor Moon cosplay hadn't been an option, the logical Swedish option would have been some rusty old junk that looked as if its glory days were in the 60s, with either a Volvo, Saab or Scania emblem on it. No guns at all, the pilot spends all his time trying to reason diplomatically with the opponents and/or convert them to feminism. I mean let's be realistic, Sweden hasn't been a serious military threat to *anything* for centuries now. A surprising amount of the population don't even want us to have a military - or at least not a military-military, they want a non-combat special rescue something-or-other. Like the lifeguard, but with access to all-terrain vehicles.

The thing about the Gundam designs is that the Gundams essentially are mascots for their home colony. If the pilots of the mechs had those same stereotypical designs, that would be pretty offensive. If Tequila Gundam's pilot was an over-the-top Mariachi, that would be bad. If Zebra Gundam's pilot was an African Tribesman despite this being set in the future, that would be undeniably playing into a racist stereotype. But those Mariachis and Tribesmen are a part of the history of those nation's identities. If the Japanese would give their mechs heads based on Samurai helmets, why wouldn't Neo-Mexico make their Gundam based on one of their own cultural figures? Anyone labeling the show a "problematic fave" is a little much given how much worse others have done with the same idea (basically every "world tournament" story has the exact same issue).

i feel the same way too G Gundam is a memorable work of art it has flaws in some spots especially in the last season where they really dont do well in staying within the gundam fight "rules" but its a work of art nonetheless. Never before in my life has an anime moved me to tears like this one did as a kid it moved me and rewatching it as an adult a couple years ago I can still stand by my opinion that G Gundam was and always will be the greatest Gundam show ever made.

I would argue G Gundam's soundtrack is just as iconic as Zeta's. It still has plenty of masterfully executed sweeping orchestral pieces, jazzy noir, rockin and extremely triumphant/intense battle themes. Hey, as a Mexican, a gundam wearing a sombrero wielding 2 guns is AWESOME!!! Really, seeing something from our culture (that is not being used for jokes) in the media of another country is really good for us. The thing about national cliché is that they quickly identify something that makes that nation what it is. It's part of their culture. Heck, I can think of another design for a Mexican Gundam: A Luchador Gundam would be cool. But... if you want to make it EVEN cooler (and not fall for that cliché stuff)... make an Aztec Warrior Gundam. Of course, many wont KNOW what an Aztec Warrior is, but that's a way to teach them.

I'm going to say this as a Swedish person. If I had the opportunity to choose between representing Sweden in a Sailor Moon gundam or in a genuinely Sweden-themed gundam, I'd 100% go with the Sailor Moon gundam. We have *no amount of national pride in Sweden.* Nil. Zilch. Complete opposite of USA. Until relatively recently we didn't even have a proper national day. We are very lucky to live in such a good country but as a nation we tend to be very "meh" about it. Sailor Moon on the other hand is awesome.

Well, Imagawa hated the premise as stated later in the video. Like as he stated reason why Swedish Gundam is Sailor Moon is probably that they were one of original designs that he had to work into the show as "commercial". And Imagawa hated it. UNLESS...many of his rebellious demands often try to make it offensive as possible (but managed to make it into professional wrestling behind-the-scenes, like story of Neo-Mexico being a pilot forced to fight or Neo-Canada pilot assuming that Neo-Russia pilot killed his wife).

What makes the Dark Gundam so terrifying is that initially it should’ve been destroyed when it hit earth, but instead it turned it into one of the most Powerful and deadly Threats that ever existed in the Gundam universe. It was pretty much “Lavos” in Chrono Trigger. If it had won it would’ve found it’s way to other colonies and consumed them. Also the fact that it let Master Asia exist with it without DG cells is really shows how intelligent it is, it was willing to let those live a life for the Dark Gundams survival and consumption of others.
