"my average self.. do you really have time to look down like that?” Tanaka has been my favourite character on this show from the first watch. He has been so efficient always, even more so than Asahi probably. Punishes every time when block formation is not good by opponents. No 1-1.5 man block stops Tanaka, ever. He has versatile selection of shots, straight or cross. His defense is actually really good and he is always there for hustle, saving so many points by connecting. He is the highest motor player on the team. He has been always loyal to the club as its been said in this episode, he plays every minute of games. He is the definition of mental fortitude. In this episode, they are giving subtle hints towards Tanaka peak. He misses some shots by barely, mostly because of bad passes etc. You can see his frustration through these tiny moments. He is trying to remain in the game, as he always does, but his facial expression changes over time. That is the first time we see his weaknesses at the deepest, his lack of confidence in his skill. Doubt. Animation of walking up the stairs has been done beautifully. We first saw him running, then slowing and eventual stop. But there is no way but up. You can't change the god-given talent you have. All you can do is keep on climbing the ladder, try your best. Its a very beautiful message imo, very relatable for all of us. Another fun fact, we see Tanaka getting impressed by Bokuto with his incredible cross shot and trying to imitate. There are several scenes foreshadowing this shot, which is cool. Also Bokuto through the episode living Tanaka's mental state, getting even more angry/frustrated on his behalf. They are very similar in nature, both looking goofy guys that has infiinite energy but they are 2 of the most dedicated people in volleyball in the show, so this Tanaka arc ending with a "Bokuto shot" was pretty poetic.

Kanoka feels like she had her heart broken because Tanaka rejected her by saying "He has his heart set on someone else" Knowing Tanaka she realized he's gonna chase after Kiyoko also without giving up.

In my opinion about 'Broken Heart' not only just for Kanoka rejection but also for Tanaka's Strong determination about everything he does. Just like how Ennoshita said that Tanaka was the only one 2nd year that never leave from the club activity (for suspenson or absent), Kanoka also said that Tanaka is Straghtforward and honest person. So everything Tanaka said always a blunt comment or word and also his honest word. It kinda showed us, how consistent Tanaka is. Thats why the tittle is Broken Heart, not only for Kanoka feeling toward Tanaka but also for explaining How Consistent Tanaka strong determination that he never losing himself or even changing his feeling that quickly toward other people or volleyball.

This is pointed out by other people a lot but Tanaka is the only one on Karasuno who has played every match including practice matches without being subbed out, Daichi would be too if he didnt get subbed out during his injury. But Tanaka never leaves the court once, unless its for timeouts and stuff.

Tanaka really is a constant! It's mentioned he's the only one of the second years who stuck around even when faced with trouble (Noya due to his suspension and the other three going on strike for a while due to the intensive training.) His mental fortitude is his greatest feature, arguably. He's also the ONLY karasuno member to have played every minute of a match, no matter if its an official one or just practice. I like to think the scene of him not wanting to be subbed out even when tired is so representative of his mentality. Even if there are times where he dips or he considers himself average, his ability to keep going and never give up is so respectable.

Tanaka working on that sharp cross spike since he saw Bokuto do it in the middle of season 2's training arc and to see him be the very embodiment of perseverance, his advice to his childhood friend of "just keep trying until you can" being fully actualized on SET POINT is one of my favorite moments of all anime.

1:29 That's just not true, there are plenty of receivers that did get his quick, they are actually most times more succesful than blockers. The quick is soo fast that most blockers have a hard time knowing fast enugh that it's going to Hinata, so by the time they jump the ball is already spiked 1:56 THANKS! it's such normal sibling (especially twin) behaviour, and I feel they missed Osamu's cold line 2:07 That was the freack quick again, from a really awkward angle, they didn't expect that Atsumu could literally do it almost as perfect as Kageyama from anywhere. In the manga Ukai was commenting on the fact that it most likely was a fluke and Atsumu isn't Kageyama so he would need a perfect pass to even try and do it again, only for Atsumu to immidiately shut him up by doing something that Kageyama would do with an off pass. It was a frack quick from an angle that blockers thought would be impossible so they discarded Osamu as an option. In 2020 when the fourth season first came out, the studio was having trouble keeping up with the workload/demand so they asked another studio to rush out the scenes. Because of this, a lot of the characters ended up looking weird or background characters were just all out of whack. They ended up fixing it in the blu-ray version but that's why at some points Tanaka or Nishinoya (especially him, they did him so dirty) just look..... weird.
