@StarLorine you need to check the ''Opacity lock'' of your sketch layer, then with any brush when you color it will only color the lines that are already there.

@ReallyHan You use different layers ! One for the bg and one for your character (or more than one for your character, but your bg layer has to be under the other ones in the list)

I used the brush tool and water tool (it should be in paint tool sai without downloading anything) I guess you only need to change your brush settings. Color Blending : 0 (no blending), 100 (max blending), Persistence : 0 (no mix), 100 (max mix), I recommend around 70-80. You can play with the settings to find what you're more comfortable with. Also if you paint on a transparent bg (on nothing), your line will be blunt because there's nothing to blend with.

I use a Wacom Bamboo Pen and Touch ( CTH-460 ). There are newer versions now though, but mine works perfectly fine (actually I recommend any Wacom tablets) You only need to install the driver that comes with your tablet, and download the paint tool sai program, and you will have pen pressure on it automatically, if there are some problems you can look on the internet for a solution because I dont know anything else :)

I really like how you put in your linework after painting the colors. That is an ingenious idea. I also like how much detail you put into the folds of all the clothing (though I think some one should teach that kid how to iron XD). In my opinion, the final product could have used another color besides brown and yellow to make it more exciting, but you definitely have the technique and a good eye.

I usually begin with a 11x8 inch at 300dpi canvas first, then crop if I want later.

Yes Flavus is my character, and I used a wacom bamboo fun tablet at the time (I now use a wacom bamboo pen and touch) but if you go on wacom official site, there should be newer tablets now lol

Thanks! By format, you mean the canvas size? I usully draw on a 8x11po canvas on 300 dpi, then I adjust while Im drawing by cropping and changing resolution sometimes :)

Add another layer, airbrush any light colors (me I used yellow) and set the layer on addition or overlay or whatever play with the layer settings and opacity :)

You mean from 0:00 to 0:25 ? :O Ive only used the pen tool with the black color with low density (around 30) but you can draw easily like that only with a tablet, if you use a mouse, its easier to draw by hand, scan your drawing and do the lineart with a vector layer :) (or you can practice to get used with your mouse with the pen tool, but its harder)
