I always thought the silvered mirror thing was pretty cool, to the point that I expanded upon it quite a bit in an off-brand story setting I've been making for a while, as well as building upon some other traditional folktale/magic connections with silver. My vampires literally cannot interact with silver, they can't touch it, they don't cast reflections in it, they are even invisible in moonlight (which is often associated with silver); in contrast, werewolves (and other shapeshifters) have their true forms shown in silver, and silver can make contact with their true forms as well. I have a few other things as well, such as ghosts reliving their death on contact with silver, or it being used in magic relating to divination and the soul (which is the through-line I connect it all with). I actually have run into a dilemma of wanting to use it in my D&D games and stuff, but because of the contents of the setting I made it for, I've been hesitant to reference it IRL...

They fully mature within about a year after birth and become pretty damn old by within 12 years. A 20 year old nekopara cat-humab would be basically like a 100 year old person or something close. One thing to bear in mind is that dogs' and cats' development rate isn't the same as humans'. All animals have different growth rates, with different lengths of time for infancy, toddlerhood, childhood, adolescence, adulthood and old age. There are many animals that practically skip those first too entirely but still live fairly long lives. There are other animals that don't even reach what we'd call "infancy" until well after birth. Considering that cats in NekoPara had been genetically altered to have so much in common with humans, it wouldn't be that odd if the length of time they spend in adulthood was also extended, even if the time they spend in childhood remains short. In other words, unless NekoWorks makes it canon, I'm not going to buy the "Catgirls die in ten years" stuff. That said, I do like imagining that they never engineered a fix to their sense of taste, so they actually can't taste sweetness. Just because it makes the girls' love for Kashou's cakes really just an expression of their love for him, either a sort of placebo effect making them taste something or them just lying to make him happy.

⁠while I understand what you are trying to say, I feel I need to amend your request. All media is political in that it was informed by the creator’s experiences and where they live. What you are asking for is faithfulness to the intention of the original author. What the Funimation dub did in that scene was strange and alien in the scene it was presented in. That does not mean, however, that a political or societal moral cannot be drawn from Dragon Maid. It may be more difficult for us to spot, given we are experiencing it through translation and from another culture, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there. It is the duty of translators to preserve the message and morals for the audience. Writing about your own beliefs and opinions is better suited for original work, where you can build the message into the story. Even Pokémon games have meanings, a common one is not to let our own dreams and wishes harm those held by others. Volo and the Gen 9 villains were so obsessed with their own dreams that the consequences for the others was lost on them. Making them incompatible with yours and the other character’s this driving you into conflict. Sorry for ranting, story telling is a passion of mine.

to be more accurate, the silver used in glass was an amalgam of mercury silver or gallium silver alloy, this helped the silver maintain a semi liquid state which made it much easier to turn into a mirror, but the consequence was that it was poisonous due to the mercury and gallium, this is also why it was considered as extreme bad luck to shatter a mirror, since silver mirror shards could easily take someone's life just from cutting themselves by accident. after it became easier to work with aluminium the practice of manufacturing silver backed mirrors died out, it was around the same time that mercurous chloride and white lead/lead hydroxycarbonate (both lethal) was removed from makeup in favor of aluminium hydroxide and titanium oxide.

The first meme (the vampire mirror thing) uses Shinobu from Monogatari, and I know it's just a meme and I'm not trying to prove them wrong, but just trivia for those interested: in the Monogatari world vampires don't have any reflection in any kind of surface, and they don't even appear in photos. So at one point, even the MC, Araragi, wasn't gonna be able to have a driving license because he would have to get a new photo (I guess when he'd have to renew is identity card or whatever he'd had to as well), but things happen in the series and those problems got solved.
