Yuko Miyamura and Tiffany Grant are the best voice actors

Stephanie is definitely the best voice in the netflix dub and fits the character, but Tiffany Grant will always be my favorite even if she sounds older than Asuka is supposed to be

Tiffany Grant. From her debut in the ADV dub to Amazon's redub of the Rebuild films she's never lost the intensity of her performance. She just carries so much confidence, cattiness and hidden vulnerability it compels you follow Asuka in spite of how annoying she can be at times. Yuko Miyamura comes very close to that but just loses out on the character's arrogant streak. Stephanie McKeon has the right idea but she never sounded like she was giving it her all. Whether it's the direction or her lack of experience with voice acting she always sounds like she's at 60%.

@Julian R What do You mean ? She's voiced freaking Asuka and I think that's pretty great way to start your voice acting career. It's similar to how one of Joe Alaskey's first performances was taking over the role of Yosemite Sam for Mel.

@@skinnyweenie8679 Yet, when amazon (or at the time Funimation) got the rights for rebuild they only bothered to bring Tiffany Grant and a few others and literally no one else from the Netflix dub. In short Stephanie McKeon take on Asuka exist in this weird nebulas space in Eva's history of "Well.. that dub exist"

@@TheDarkStigmataVA You mean the English dub that thousands and thousands of manchildren in the Internet were bitching and whining over because the redub wasn't gonna have any of the older VA's back which... defeats the point of having a redub ? This stupid and immature discourse always happen in the anime community. Dragon Ball Z, Sailor Moon, Pokemon, Gundam Seed, and of course, Evangelion.

1. Tiffany Grant (The Highlight of the ADV Dub and Terrific in the Rebuild Dubs as well) 2. Yuko Miyamura ( Great performance, though I think I prefer her as the more subdued Asuka in the Rebuild films) 3. Stephanie McKeon ( Her voice is a excellent fit for the Character, but some uneven Vocal direction lets her down)

I know right, There's just so many problems I have with the ADV Eva cast. ·Shinji's voice is too deep and awkward. I don't mean that in a good way. ·Asuka sounds like a Middle age Mom or Aunt who nags alot which is very unsuitable for a character like Asuka. ·Misao's voice sounds so scratchy to the point it comes off as ear grating. That's why I like Kotono and Carrie more better 😌

Sounding 14 should be near the bottom of the list to if the voice captures the personality and emotion of the character behind each line. You can find 14 year old girls who have more mature voices than Grant's performance anyway.

I am probably the only one who cannot decide between the three. Ig if I had to pick, Miyamura and Tiffany, but I think Stephanie did a fantastic job as well. Tiffany’s voice is a tad deep, but makes up for it with some of the brassiest yelling, which is exactly what I expect from Asuka. Also I think she has the best German IIRC.

Yuko is the best asuka all around. Tiffany is the more talented dub asuka but she just sounds too old imo , Stephanie just purely fitting much better makes me prefer her slightly more

I highly prefer Tiffany Grant as Asuka. And no, this isn't NosTaLgiA GogGLeS or whatever. She is much more emotional and intense, the scene where Asuka is confronted by Azrael is amazing; the entirety of episode 22 is one of my favorites. And I love how much Tiffany Grant loves the role, and you can tell that it feeds into her performance. Stephanie's take on the character isn't necessarily "bad" (and I'm not sure how much is due to the voice direction or how much is because of her inexperience) but this is a role that needed an actor who wasn't so new because a lot of the times it can feel like she's holding back. I feel like newer dubs try way too hard to match the original dub, especially in terms of delivery. And translating is a whole mess that I can't get into right now but I will say that a lot of times fans rely too much on things being literal that they don't take into consideration what sounds and feels natural for the language that it's being translated into. And English voice actors trying to match the pitch and vocal "color" of the Japanese VAs (who all tend to have naturally higher pitched voices) can make it grating to listen to. I'd rather have a dub that was slightly less faithful in terms of literal translation and/or vocal sound, but was memorable and emotional, than one that was slavishly accurate but bland.

I can't see Asuka without Stephanie McKeon. Normally, I hate dubs, but the Netflix Dub is top-tier! I had to put a year between the series and the Rebuild movies so I could forget the voices, but when Asuka showed up, the illusion was broken. It's selfish, but Please, Netflix, dub the Rebuild movies with your talented voice actors!!!

I had the director's cut on DVD of the ADV dub and I'm not sure why the lines and delivery are different in this video, the elevator scene in particular. Were there two different versions??

The audio is from the Funimation dub of Rebuild of Evangelion 2.22 Also, don't confuse it with the redubbing made by Amazon.
