@@KitsunesTrove Yep, and then with Two Noble Kinsmen, that makes 38. If you count Edward III (which is debatable) that would make 39, and then there a few possible lost plays such as Love's Labor's Won and Cardenio, but since they're lost, we can't really count them.

And now from the Globe Theatre - the Histeria kid chorus! A play by William Shakespeare always simulates your thought Because you spend two hours trying to figure out the plot He wrote famous lines and phrases for his dog like "out, damned Spot!" (I'm a victim of circumstance!) So who is this guy the critics praise Who's famous for his turn of phrase Wrote 37 different plays And lived in Elizabethan days And made Lawrence Oliver's career? Lend me your ear He lived in Stratford von Avon apartment 2-B Was it to be, or not to be? I don't really know, it's confusing to me How do you understand Shakespeare with all of the harks and the hos and all the flowery prose that he writes? For men wearing tights! So bring up the lights And let's meet the bard Ladies and gentlemen, Histeria! proudly presents the plots of all 37 plays of William Shakespeare! Hamlet's real father is killed by his brother who now becomes king and them marries his mother, It ends up with everyone killing eachother And that is the story that's told by the bard Hey nanni nanni na, tra la la, fa la la la la la la! King Henry V is a play about war And so is King John and King Henry IV While Falstaff laughed, and fell on the floor While Henry VI went back to the gore King Lear, Shakespeare's Tragical ruler who casts out his daughter The story is sad, cos then he feels bad And then he goes mad And both of them die! Hey nanni nanni na, tra la la, fa la la la la la la! At Romeo and Juliet, everyone cries At Titus Andronicus everyone dies, Don't you just love these Shakespearean guys? Ahaaahahahaha! You go to the theatre and pay all that money To see all these actors who dress really funny You say to your date, are you getting this honey? Cause I'm really lost so explain it to me Hey nanni nanni na, tra la la, fa la la la la la la! Macbeth is a guy who is really ambitious And that's why the king soon sleeps with the fishes Then he kills others, it's really quite vicious, Until in the end, he gets stabbed in the duff! Oh, no-no! By MacDuff! Better! He wrote comic romances with laughter and dances, Where everyone prances while taking their chances With love, love, love, love, love! [make gagging noises] Like The Comedy of Errors and Pericles too, Then Measure for Measure and Taming the Shrew, Two Gents from Verona and then Much Ado About Nothing Then he'd write The Tempest and Twelfth Night, The Merry Wives of Windsor, As You Like It, and Cymbaline, Love's Labours Lost, A Winter's Tale, And also Midsummer Night's Dream Then The Merchant of Venice a debt is entangled, As Coriolanus where soldiers get mangled, Othello's the fellow whose wife ends up strangled, And that is the story that's told by the bard! Hey nanni nanni na, tra la la, fa la la la la la la! Troilus and Cressida, now there was a pair, They were in love and she had an affair, It's not a great play so we really don't care, Hey nanni nanni na, tra la la! Nixon: King Richard II's a guy that went dumb, King Richard III is the guy with the hump, Timon of Athens, he was a chump, 'Cause all of his money was lent, Now it's spent, And he can't, Pay the rent, And he has to go live in a tent! Julius Caesar's about an attack, All of his friends put a knife in his back, And then a great play that would come after that, Is Anthony and Cleopat... Tra la la, tra la la, tra la la la la la la la la! King Henry VIII has six different wives, He's faithful to each 'til the next one arrives, Most of them ended up losing their lives, One minute they're wedded, and then they're beheaded, It's something that later he kinda regretted, But Shakespeare's plays are the places to be, But violence and killing and murder you see, You really can't show it on childrens' TV, But that is the story, Though it's bloody and gory, Yes, that is the story that is told by the bard! All's well that ends well!

@michaeltucker204711 жыл бұрын
To Dr. Prune: They did only show 33 plays, but two or three of Shakespeare's plays were so long that they had to be released in different books and plays. Sort of like how we have the original movie, then the producers come out with a sequel, and then usually a third movie. This was the same case with Shakespeare's plays. I think these were Henry VIII and one or two of the plays that has the name of a king in it.
@MetFanMac10 жыл бұрын
Wikipedia lists a total of 38 individual plays, including two parts for Henry IV and three parts for Henry VI, making a total of 34 different stories. The song omits The Two Noble Kinsmen, probably because it was co-written with John Flecther and Shakespeare's own contribution was a point of contention for a while.

I don't like the bit about Henry VIII. The play itself isn't a history of his entire reign or marriages at all, but rather a general piece of trashy Elizabethan propaganda. Many of Shakespeare's histories are careful in their depictions of earlier monarchs, but the song goes into detail about Henry VIII.
@V2011F8 жыл бұрын
all of the plays detailing real people were fake like Macbeth a Scottish king who fought and won several wars against the English was vilified by Shakespeare. Julius Caesar and Anthony and Cleopatra were dramatizations of what actually happened and anything regarding the English crown was changed in order to make the Tudors look good and the other families look bad this was common especially following Henry VII's and VIII's reigns which stopped for a while until Elizabeth I was queen of England in which case you had Shakespeare write a lot of his political and war based plays to get the queen to join and enjoy his plays. Simply put if it makes her look good she's happy and was more often than not seated in the best comfy chair in the theater when ever his plays were available.
@lseths7 жыл бұрын
The description of Henry VIII always bugged me also; they described his reign (which was similarly done in the song "The Tale of the Tudors"), but not the play. The play ends with Anne Boleyn still his wife; it doesn't get at all into the rest of his wives at all. It's a pretty darn good song otherwise, but that part always bugged me.

Oh, I mean that there is no play called "Henry V". There's Henry V part one, and Henry V part two. I think Henry IV is divided into two parts, and Henry VI is split into three. So that's seven plays total, but the song would only count that as three.
