This isnt well established in dub but Goku cnat stand public displays of affection, its his saiyan genetics... you will see at the end of this saga a scene where he completely freaks out. He is fine with it in private, but not in public.

In the Japanese canon, flight as understood by Earthlings has an actual name: Bukuujutsu (meaning "Dancing Sky Arts", metaphorically referring to how it lets the user move freely in the air). That's why Roshi calls it by such a weird name in this episode. Also, important reminder that in the manga both the Dragon Team and the readers really hadn't seen Chi-Chi at all past her debut mini-arc, so her coming back for this tournament was a big surprise.

Chi Chi's faith in Goku has never wavered. So when she has Gohan studying during the end of the world, that is because she fully believes Goku will take care of things.

Kind of a dumb move still tbh. Goku won’t live forever, but the threats just seem to keep coming. Eventually, someone else is going to have to pick up the mantle. Besides, just think of all of the money that Gohan could’ve made if he kept training and took Mr. Satan’s championship titles away. The man could’ve been wealthier than some random researcher could.

Kidnapped to fight some evil aliens that came after. Then after your husband victory he s hugely hurt and your son you didn t see in months scream at you to go to namek.

@@unlimited971 No one is disputing that Chi-Chi has good reason at times to be strict with Goku and Gohan, but it would be nice to get some moments where she isn’t being an angry wife/mom stereotype. Chi-Chi is angry throughout this fight and really lets Goku have it, but she still shows some vulnerability and kindness. These are the kinds of moments that she is missing as the series progresses.

The Krillin fight in this tournament is probably his best fight in the entire series and my second favourite fight in this tournament. The chorography is top notch.

The flying technique is called bukujutsu, literally sky dancing technique. The dubbers probably wanted to keep the rhythm but also probably felt the name wasn't manly enough. They had no way to know that, by the next arc, every fighter in the main cast would be proficient in bukujutsu.

That's where Piccolo gets that technique from. In a lot of future fights, Piccolo usually uses a ki blast to distract and move closer for a hit. It's his bread and butter.

4:42 Yeah, he did, but seemingly alsmot every translation never gets that. Being a country bumpkin, like Goku, she's got a country accent in the original manga and anime and that's what Oolong picks up on. But then everyone else doesn't notice that and she just speaks "proper". The manga I have does give her a distinct speech pattern.

As much as I love the dub cast of Dragon Ball, I do wish the ADR directors had the foresight to direct Goku and Chi-Chi's dub actors with the country dialect in mind. It is hard to listen to and pick up if you aren't familiar with Japanese, but once you notice the differences in performances (particularly with how Masako Nozawa portrays Goku versus how she portrays either Gohan or Goten), you can hear the nuances in the vocal delivery.

Chi Chi is the perfect representation of the Japanese woman. Sweet and gentle while she is in the dating stage, upset after she gets married and a real shrew after she has her first child. That thing in DBZ where Chi Chi cares more about Goham than Goku is based on real Japanese life. Some Japanese women completely forget about their husbands and dedicate themselves completely to their children, to the point that husband and wife sleep in separate rooms. This, unfortunately, is one of the causes of depression and even suicide among Japanese men. And also one of the reasons why they no longer want to get married and start a family.

In the English version Goku is painted like a hero who fights evil and not a great parent, but in the Japanese original, Goku cares for his friends and his loved ones, he is no hero, he just wants to test his limits with strong people. TFS painted Goku as a goof and a bad parent for comedic purposes. (Personally I was never a fan of that choice) Chichi was a wild kid with great education and became as an adult a Tiger mom. Goku is a loving father, a Warrior father, he always tried to make sure Gohan was strong enough to protect his loved ones because Goku knew he wasn't going to live forever, so there was sort of a power struggle between Goku and Chichi how they wanted to raise Gohan.

The quality of body movement in the fights will never be as good as they were in this tournament. You can see every part of the body moving and making contact with the other fighter. These fights are so good! They are not just spamming punches and kicks

I have some problem with Japan. Apparently many Japanese are not happy. And I could think, that's how Toriyama wrote Chi-Chi. Not that she's not happy, but very strict (traditional(ly Japanese)? ), and somewhat putting quite a strain on their family dynamics. It seems, Japan(ese) do(es) that quite not seldom. (In the work environment, ..., probably practically every aspect of Japanese social life.)
