This episode shows an important contrast. The way Mark looks at the Thraxians lives as so fleeting in comparison to his, they only live for a year, is how Omni-Man viewed humanity as a speck of time in his life.

@@amanuelyimer3739 Yes, as they age the Viltrumite DNA takes over and slows the aging. That's why instead of being full grown at 6 months he looked like that. I can't say more without spoilers as I've read the comics but Omni-Man explained to Mark during last seasons finale that Mark will live for thousands of years and everyone will be dead by the time he looks 30.

I see what you mean but I would argue he was only really comparing my it like that because his dad did that comparison to humans while beating him to near death. Kind of like how are you going to say all that about humans then go and be all nice and everything to this world where their life span is way shorter than humans. More of a wtf than him genuinely seeing them in the same way as Omni-man did. Or at least that is how I understood it when watching as I didn’t read the comic. I would appreciate if you further spoke on this if the comic made it clear otherwise or if I missed something in the show

Always remember that omniman never once asked for forgiveness nor wanted it. You are very passionate towards the hate for nolan, which is warranted, but he never says he deserves any sympathy or that what he did didn't matter. He doesn't ask for Mark to do anything for his sake, only the innocent people in danger. Nolan doesn't have allies, so he knows the only one strong enough to help is his son. Mark is actually strong enough to face viltramites. He constantly holds back, and it makes him weaker by fighting without killing intent. Nolan was also done with life, and the thraxins gave him a reason to live. He already knew the planet was doomed the moment he decided to help the planet. He was kinda screwed no matter what. Omniman didn't want more pain or destruction, but his past literally won't and can't go away regretfully. It's right to distrust nolan, but he legit always believed what he was doing was for good. Asking a "god" to care for an ant's feelings isn't exactly easy. So the dact that he cared for such a fleeting species shows that he was changing. Lastly, the viltramites were probably going to invade Earth at full force soon, but Mark showing his strength and being dragged into the situation by his dad actually probably benefited him. Now, he has time to go to earth and prep before they arrive rather than just getting invaded and overwhelmed.
@stardmg

If Nolan hadn't called Mark here, Nolan might've lost a 3 on one with Lucan, Vidor and Thula. Then, after killing every last Thraxan, they'd make their way to Earth to "recruit" Mark. No doubt upon arrival the first thing they'd do is start killing humans en masse to draw Mark out and force him to fight, a fight he would absolutely lose horrifically. Mark would be killed, and whatever's left of Earth's population would be helplessly enslaved under Viltrumite rule. So yeah, we really should be thanking Nolan here, even if his intentions *seemed* manipulative...

It's such a great parallel to see Nolan genuinely care about the Thraxans considering they have a lifespan of a single year. I think that the point of Nolan trying to desperately convince his son to help , is to portray that Nolan genuinely cares about his people (The Thraxans). Mark is the only one he knows that could stand somewhat of a chance against a Viltrumite invasion and also the only one that Mark could ever think of relying on when it comes to desperate measures. It seems more to me that he uses manipulative tactics because he desperately wants his people, his wife and his infant-son safe. He doesn't want Mark to help *him*, but to help the innocent Thraxans. That's WILD for a Viltrumite. You can even see that Nolan still has second thoughts about his Viltrumite past. When Lucan says that Nolan deserves death, he responds with "I know". Keep in mind that Nolan has conquered hundreds, maybe even thousands of planets for the sake of Viltrum, so to have him be compassionate like that is crazy.

Y'know, ultimately this was good for everyone involved (except the unfortunate Thraxan's that died in the conflict). If Omni-Man didn't call on Mark, all of them, including Oliver and the surviving Thraxans(if any, but I doubt even 3 Viltrumites can systematically annihilate ALL of them in such a short time) would have been wiped out. Then Mark would have NO prior warning or experience with true Viltrumite combat, and whenever they show up in a few years, Mark, and subsequently, Earth would have been washed. Not to mention, managing to take down even 1 Viltrumite has pretty important implications. Pretty sure Lucan and Thula survived this battle, but I doubt Vidor's brain can be un-squished.

it is important to understand omniman's character. he is someone who has lived 1000 years living one way. changed by 17 years of life on earth. dta fighting against himself. everything he said or did was to convince himself. in fact he hoped Mark didn't have powers because then he would have had another 17 years and maybe more
@Agent-57
@Agent-57 6 ай бұрын
The fact that Omniman even cares about Mark and Debbi enough to change makes him better than most of humanity. He has lived for 2000 years. Him killing all those people is the equivalent of a human clearing out a rodent infestation. So the fact that this little 20 years, just 1% of his life changed and overwrote the teaching and experience of 99% of his life shows how much he loved his family. Again equalizing the perspective it would be like you fighting and killing your family you grew up with for a man you dated for like a week. And this is quite the litreally the best case scenario as if Mark had never came to Thraxxa, Viltrumites would come to Earth, kill Mark and take over. Now Mark knows what he is up against and has time to prepare. If it wasn't for this ass whooping he would waste his time in college instead of training.

why can’t anyone understand that it’s not omnimans fault that thraxans are in danger. viltrumites would come to them no matter if nolan left or not. he came to their planet once he saved their ship, so it was inevitable that while tracking him viltrumites would enslave such weak species. nolan gave them hope when he had a thraxan child, thraxans are seeking long life, they wanted nolan to be their emperor only because of his age, because long life that is what they respect and seek. nolan coming to thraxa making a fast aging brother for mark and giving mark an opportunity to fight with real viltrumites with his help is the best series of decisions. bruh and also you r saying like why are you doing it to mark, because mark has no other choice he was born a viltrumite and he has to encounter them

Half a gazillion years ago I vaguely remember reading a comic that had what I consider to be a well written conversation between Wonder Woman and Powergirl. Basically, Wonder Woman had just defeated a bad guy and Powergirl makes a point similar to yours. She says something like she really enjoys watching the way Wonder Woman moves her body. This isn’t meant in a sexual or pornographic way. As she continues, Powergirl explains that in her experience the vast majority of both heroes and villains with super-strength have absolutely no idea how to actually fight. Generally, this is OK. If you’re strong enough to single-handedly lift a tank, tear off the treads with your teeth, and then throw the rest a country mile then you probably really don’t NEED anything else. However (and this is what you were talking about) there’s a difference between throwing a wildly powerful haymaker vs engaging an opponent and employing your FULL potential. Your every movement encapsulating surety, quickness, deftness, and speed. Minimal exertion for maximum effect. Furthermore, whereas a brawler with preternatural strength may be compromised for fear of causing excessive harm to either their enemy or the environment; a trained and disciplined martial artist possesses the tools necessary to compensate for that. I really like that. Superman is the world’s greatest hero. Batman is the world’s greatest detective. Wonder Woman is the world’s greatest WARRIOR. Strength, power, and skill? Yes, but also grace, dignity, compassion, and restraint.

Ok. Let's put Nolan into perspective for a second. Hundreds, if not thousands of years being a Viltumite. Imagine American Exceptionalism + Might Makes Right times a million. Now? Consider that there is a whole Planet of Nolans. Even if he did care about Earth (arguably a piece of him did), the best thing in his mind is still what he did. Because it's getting Mark in line.... Or facing the entire Viltumite force raining down on Earth by the thousands. Look at what just three of them did. Its like a psychotic level Trolley Problem. At least to Nolan. As far as the kid? It's like telling someone in an apartheid that they "knew the risks of mixing." Which would be a terrible thing to say... lol. Am I defending him? No. He did monstrous things. But is he incapable of feeling? Changing? He's doing that all despite his indoctrination. "Why do I care... I'm _not_ supposed to *feel* this way." Just saying, this episode was huge for creating such depth. Nolan isn't just some evil dude. And why write books that are seemingly important? Obviously more on that, later. But that says he's been contemplating not being totally loyal to Viltrum. Not all the time. Mark getting his powers kind of "activated" Nolan's mission, again. It was like a trigger for what he thought he may have missed. Remember, Mark getting his powers weren't exactly met with joy.

yeah it was omnimans fault but I don't think all the Thraxians deserve to be exterminated (no pun intended) because omniman doesn't think about things until there is a a problem which is why mark helped I believe. I'd feel pretty bad if an entire planet of people got deleted and I could have done something to prevent it.

In the comics after he hugs his dad Mark starts weeping uncontrollably and *BEGS* for Nolan to come back to Earth and to Debbie so they can “go back to the way things were”. It felt completely out of character and really did a disservice to Mark. They also showed things that weren’t in the comics, like how exactly Nolan actually came into contact with the Thraxans, and how he felt such guilt and remorse for what he did the he nearly killed himself by falling into a black hole. Just like The Last Of Us this show is staying faithful when it had to and deviating when they need to. This show is better than the comics because Robert Kirkman is essentially getting a do over for all of the things he either wishes he wrote differently or cut altogether. It also proves that (on RARE occasions) heroes need to actually kill the bad guys.

Having conflicted emotions make someone act out of character? If anything, that makes someone have depth and layers and be realistically human and not just one-dimensional character that feels emotions like black and white, like 100% hates his father.

For real, I didn't think Nolan regretted anything. I've never seen the comics and don't know what if anything they've changed. But I thought he was going to use their accelerated lifespan to breed an army of hybrid Viltrumites to try and overthrow the Viltrim Empire.

Can't expect mark to leave billions to die too out of anger for his father, that would screw him up way worse than even what happened on earth.

@@Salik96 “The past is the past” not as in a thing that once WAS but now IS not thus is simply gone and therefore irrelevant. Rather, the past is gone but by no means irrelevant. The past was the vehicle that brought us to our present. The present, meanwhile, is the vehicle we will take leading to our future. The future is not yet here. The past is already gone. What was, WAS. What is, IS. What will be, WILL BE. All of them are important. However, they are not of EQUAL importance. This is because of the three, there is only one over which we have any agency. The present. To LIVE is not synonymous with simply being alive. To live is to make use of that which you have so as to hopefully provide an outcome which results in experiencing happiness. (I said “happiness”. I did NOT say “pleasure”. They are two entirely different things). Unfortunately, sometimes some of us forget to focus our energies on the tasks we actually CAN do. We instead find ourselves paralyzed into inaction. Sometimes we focus on all of the crap that has already gone before. Other times, we get so consumed with the fear and uncertainty of what is coming that our worry only grows more and more. This is because our worry is trying to push us to do SOMETHING to TRY somehow to actually confront the source of our anxiety and perhaps actually resolve the problem. As I said, the past is gone and the future is not yet here. The solution (really the only option we have) is to LIVE in the PRESENT. This does not mean, “Forget the past and to Hell with the future! Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow you may die!” No. That is merely wallowing in gluttonous, carnal pleasure. Do not live in the past. Doing so is merely dwelling upon that which cannot be changed. Do not live in the future. Doing so is merely dwelling upon hypotheticals and intangibles which may or may not manifest. In either case they cannot be controlled, only eventually dealt with and even then only IF & WHEN they occur. Time is not composed of three separate, distinct, and unrelated units. Time is one and exists as it’s own master. To accomplish ANYTHING we must act and if we choose to act we must meet time on it’s own terms, not ours. So, “live in the present”? OK. Sure. Great. But what the Hell does that MEAN?!? One cannot live in the present if one does not have past. Do not dwell on the past but neither must we allow ourselves to ignore it. Take the past, remember it, examine what did and did not work and why. Now, LEARN from it! To possess a present means every single moment that passes is inevitably carrying us to the future. We can’t possibly begin to predict and control every eventuality that may result in harming us. That’s scary. So should we just ignore it and put it out of our minds? No. Because, we can do something about it. We already began the task by utilizing the past as a resource. Having now embarked upon LEARNING from the past, we are in a better position to PLAN for the future. Bad, unexpected, and totally unforeseen events can and may still occur. Indeed, sometimes bad things just happen to good people. But the future isn’t a totally random game of chance governed only by chaos causing stuff to “just happen”. Actions have consequences as also does inaction. We cannot control but we can influence the greater mathematical likelihood of given events occurring. Do not ignore the future. Instead PLAN for the future. Do so by establishing goals. Wishes ARE NOT goals! Goals are smaller achievable results toward which we strive. Furthermore, as goals are set, worked toward, and finally completed they form (cumulatively) the stepping stones leading to our desired future. I am truly sorry for rambling so excessively and I really hope I don’t come off as a pedantic jackass. (I’m not saying I’m NOT a pedantic jackass, mind you. I just don’t want to come off as one)! TL;DR: Omni man is a mass murdering monster whose moral compass grants him a respect for the basic sanctity of life (not just human life but LIFE itself) equal in value to that possessed by either the Joker or Carnage. (Maybe so, maybe not). Regardless, it doesn’t matter RIGHT NOW! A planet occupied by an entire race of clones of General Zod are personally offended by these people merely existing! Mark’s not the hero because he’s the protagonist. Mark’s the hero because he’s not petty. He’s not one to allow the actions of others to act as a source of measurement when evaluating the morality of his own. These are people. They matter. Mark cares. His greatest, most important power did not come from Nolan. It came from Debbie. Empathy. It makes him Invincible. You know, everybody wants to raise their daughters to be strong women but no one ever seems to think even once about trying to raise their sons to be compassionate men. Well, I guess now we see why. Mark Grayson. What a joke. Seriously, who would ever actually respect this guy? There’s just one word for this loser. Pussy. “Violence is not strength and compassion is not weakness”. - CAMELOT (1967) Richard Harris as King Arthur

This reaction became way too toxic , rather reacting to the storyline she's juts hating Nolan .. From reacting to the viltrumites entey to the fight.. everything was nothing but hating on a person.. You can hate him..but atleast don't ignore the plot for just one person That's it ... And peak toxicity was when she said "it's all your dad fault" at the end when kregg said "unlike your father we won't change our mind". Like seriously 😂😂😂 But at the end it's your reaction.. if it's real that would be enough.. so nothing much we can say😅

Mark will not do it I understand.. But why asking "invincible" the superhero for help is a wrong thing.. And out of 3000 year of lifespan ..Omni man's 20 year life on earth isn't even tiny portion(0.006) . Which is like meeting someone in a Train for 1 mint .. Also for him We human's are like what chicken,Goat are to us..just kill and eat the flesh .. We born & brought up this way to see them as inferior lives . Same way viltrimites saw us.. Still As a only viltrimite Onmi man left his post ... Which is huge ...

I liked the fight better in the comic. It was more bloody, Nolan pretty much soloed all 3 of them while dropping cold lines and that last headbut/kill was nice. I wish they would have kept those great moments and added all of the good moments from this. It's a big event and a mid season finale afterall. The second half of the season is going to be wild.
