The whole concept of Amber being mad at mark for not telling her he's a super hero is only in the show. In the comics she thought he was selling drugs

It makes sense she'd figure it out. What doesn't make sense is how she reacts to it. I get that it's unfair to expect your significant other to accept all your excuses if you're not gonna tell them who you are. Mark should make a choice, either he dates someone who knows or who has known him long enough that he's comfortable telling the truth or he doesn't date. That's totally fair. But Amber knows, she could fix the entire issue by herself by just telling him, it's just so weird. Even if she's mad and want him to make the choice himself, it's weirdly manipulative. I don't have the hate boner everyone seem to have against Amber. She's not the worst thing ever, but she was written nonsensically, I wished they'd done a better job.

@@Arkayjiya Yes. Amber is supposed to be smart, so her finding out isn't what doesn't make sense. Her being mad at him for not telling her, too, isn't that doesn't make sense. What doesn't make sense is figuring it out, seeing how bloody your boyfriend gets after each battle he has in person and retroactively understanding that he was saving lives when he wasn't with you, that he saved you and his best friend, and call him a liar that ran away and let you alone, when you know very well he was protecting you, to then act distant from him, only to try and bang another guy that very same night. Only thing that stopped her from doing it was the guy happening to be in a committed relationship already.

@@omnaaa its because people can forgive an evil character far more than an annoying one. Its only because Amber doesnt make sense that people dislike her so much. Like with Nolan we can guess that he was indoctrinated from a young age to believe in the empire, and can understand that his lifespan and the fact he's probably over 1000 years old means he has a different view of a short lived species. It doesnt make what he did right but we understand. Amber on the other hand is portrayed as an amazing character from the beginning, but does a complete 180 purely because of bad writing, and everyone around mark acts like shes the one in the right for things. At least Nolan is portrayed as potentially evil from the start, Amber betrayed the audience with her reveal as much as she betrayed mark. People give weight to that. When you give the people a character to root for and then they end up an asshole they hate that character much more than someone who was evil from the start.

nolan actually really does care about mark and debbie and thats why he was so upset and snappy when mark got his powers because he never wanted him to get them, it accelerated his mission. he wanted to wait until they died of old age then take over the planet. earth and his time there really did change him and the whole of that last fight he wasnt trying to convince mark of the cause he was trying to convince himself that the vultrum way was still the right way.

"Think, Mark!!" - I think Omni-Man was trying to convince himself. *Omni-Man was telling the truth when he said his life on Earth felt like a speck of time for him.* Viltrumites live for an EXTREMELY long time. I could be remembering this wrong, but I think a clue dropped at one point when Omni-Man said "he remembered something from yesterday" and Debbie corrected him saying "that happened years ago". I believe episode 1 Omni-Man was hoping that both Debbie and Mark would die of old age and never find out his true mission on Earth. Once Mark got his powers, Nolan knew it meant he couldn't wait for Mark to "age out". Therefore, Nolan had to stop his little "vacation" and get back to work conquering Earth. SIDEBAR SPECULATION ON VILTRUMITE AGING AND WHY DEBBIE WOULD FEEL LIKE A PET: To give a perspective of time for Omni-Man: When Omni-Man crushed Red Rush's head, it lasted less than a second but felt like hours to Red Rush. Omni-Man has the opposite problem. According to Comic Vine, no Viltrumite is ever stated to pass the mark of 100,000 years old. Assuming the ratio of a Vitrumite living to 80,000 years and a human living to 80 years. 80,000 yrs / 80 yrs = a factor of 1,000 Same factor ratio by human standards - 80 years / 1,000 = 0.08 year Since 1 year = 365 days 0.08 x 365 days = 29.2 days So 80 years to a Viltrumite feels approximately like 29.2 days to a human. Debbie was already an adult when Nolan met her. Her entire life would feel like a mini vacation to him. It was Debbie's short lifespan that made her feel more like a "pet" to Nolan.

Omni Man definitely had a plan to "save" Mark if he was human. It probably wasn't outright betrayal, it was most likely closer to what you said (not taking over Earth until after Mark was dead so that he would never see it) but he had some plan to preserve Mark's life and innocence if he was human. Otherwise he really didn't need to wait for that long before killing the guardians and taking over Earth. Getting the knowledge and identifying the threats probably took a few years, not 20.

I think Amber realized how much she cared about Mark when she saw him almost die on live T.V. Potentially being directly confronted with the real dangers of being a superhero and having it affect someone she knows are cares about made her realize how she was being a bit unreasonable.

Omni didnt want to beat the crap out of Mark and kill all of those people. He felt it was his duty. His heart wasn't in it. Annihilation of the alien planet was something he wanted to do. He could have easily killed Mark at any time but held back a great deal of his power during the fight. The people were killed to show Mark how different they really are. How God like they are in comparison and not worthy of the value mark was mistakenly placing on their existence. From Omni Man's perspective, he was doing Mark a favor to help keep himself objective and distanced from the pain of doing their job. Its quite interesting writing.

my interpretation of Amber getting back with him is pretty much just. Pity. He got beaten by his dad in front of the whole world, he was used *to* kill thousands of people, and nobody even seems to blame him. She's a teenager who's a little shitty, as teenagers tend to be. If you go back and rewatch the season and look for it, you will see a *lot* of signs that point to Nolan's rampage at the end being as much, or more, about convincing himself as it was about convincing Mark. As for Amber, she was more pissed about how not only did he not tell her, but he kept giving lame excuses that only an absolute idiot would believe. I think knowing that Mark was nearly killed made her realize that she did really care about him a great deal, and inspired her to forgive him for being bad at lying... Mind you, the writers themselves have admitted that they went a bit too far with how they wrote her.

The twist was that this whole time, Omniman wasn't hoping Mark got his powers, he was hoping he WOULDN'T. That way, Mark and Debbie will both eventually die off, and Nolan can then continue his conquest. But Mark having his powers would mean living for 1000+ years, which is far longer than the Empire expects Nolan to have weakened the planet. Now Nolan has to continue his mission, and either get Mark on his side, or neutralize him as a threat.

Kind of a difference in the comic but they focused way more on what's going on in Nolan's head. Comparing the 2 makes for an experience. Jist is all the messed up stuff Nolan did is him trying to not care and stick to the plan. You get more in the comic on what's going on in his head, but really the short of it is all the times he gets pissed is him trying to syce himself up to be a good Viltrumite. He is close to breaking down throughout the fight here. You even see him crack a bit at the start and you see at the end him trying desperately to stay mad, but he just can't do it anymore. Man deep down truly loves his son and wife and he cared for his friends he killed in episode 1 and Mark just was the last straw. Cool writing there. But that pet thing is kind of dead on. I mean Debby will live some odd 80 years and the man is already in his mid 2,000. Yeah he loves her but he's going to out live her 1,000s of times over.
