The thing about Amber I think the writers wanted to give her too much credit by having her already figure it out as it makes her more unreasonable and hypocritical. If she’s known for weeks then she was aware that he was being a superhero at the college campus but lied about it and pretended like she thought he ran away like she didn’t know, and then calls him out for being a liar.

Yeah, I think it was a miss because the events are so close, so she gets a more unfair rap than she should be getting. At least from what I think the show is telling me how I should be feeling about her at any rate.

They're trying to make women more important than they originally were. Amber in the comics is parody hot babe gf with basically no personality and almost no character development. The show writers tried too hard to make her a sassy boss bytch. Everyone hated her. Season 2 they have completely 180 her personality and is a bit more likable. Debbie in the early parts of the comic was pretty much just "Mark's mom." barely ever relevant. I think her changes are overall better.

I think in ok with the irrationality of Amber holding onto the secret that she knows and is holding out for Mark, with the irrationality of Marks last ditch grand effort, cause that last ditch was back at the college. In the end their both shitty teenagers, [there be spoilers below] I like this moment less than them getting back together later. People who whole heartedly hate Amber, hate her for their own blatently obvious reasons outsider of Amber (or the writers) control.

This episode has both some of the most jaw dropping and also most shockingly gruesome action I have ever seen in superhero animation and animation period. Also I now put Cecil Stedman up there with Nick Fury and Amanda Waller as one of the best spymasters in comic book history. And yes Immortal was in fact Abraham Lincoln.

I like Cecil more than Waller, they made him look like a Bond villain but he's actually human, with real feelings about his job. Waller isn't in most versions.

People defend amber thinking she has a right to know, but they ignore the fact that there are many villains that would target anyones weaknesses at the drop of a hat, they were only together for a span of months in highschool, and she failed at empathy or understanding of what he is dealing with cause she feels she is entitled to attention for being " a good person" while having a complext for acknowledgement in a world with enough geniuses to make her more normal than she likes.

She had the chance to apply reason and common sense to his actions and decisions for weeks(maybe two months), yet didn't get past her ego and demand for a larger portion of a heroes time even as he is in danger or horribly injured. And as far as the villain knowing thing. He is an idiot and people with grudges could easily figure out and target those close to him, while being involved makes a more desirable leverage point. Secret identities help and shouldn't be a door to cross if you knew a person for half a year

this episode is the episode that made most people hate amber, she knew he was a hero yet still acted like he abandoned her during the college attack, she's just an evil manipulator, you can see it through the show, she never wanted to date mark until eve showed interest in him only then did she jump in. they really butchered her from the comic, she was likable in the comic

You should 100% read the comics, 140 something issues and it's absolutely one of the best comic book series of the last 20 years. If you think it gets crazy now, the comic gets way crazier later on. Unlike your standard Marvel, DC comics, it hasn't been going on since the 40s, it has a beginning and an end. So it's a great starting point.

Remember, not only does Mark not owe Amber the truth, it was severely irresponsible to reveal himself to her just for a relationship. There's more at stake than poor Amber's bruised ego. There's lives. Everyone knows Mark Grayson is with Amber. And if Amber is also with Invincible, that puts his mother and friends in danger too. That puts potentially millions of lives in danger if Invincible can be affected by Amber being in danger. Amber is portrayed as an abusive narcissist for acting like she doesn't understand why Mark had to keep it a secret from her. It's not ABOUT Amber and she doesn't understand that. When you're a superhero, you're in charge of saving lives. Imagine if the President of the United States compromised the nuclear launch codes just for some really good p****.

Tho Kirkman admitted, they handled this aspect of her character poorly in this part, so that point i made, which is the actual point, doesn't come across very well in the show. In defense of Amber, the reason she’s upset is because there’s really only one reason not to tell her. And that’s because Mark isn’t confident in the relationship lasting forever. And, of course, most adults know that high school relationships aren’t going to last forever. But teenagers aren’t always that rational. And Amber likely wants this relationship to last a long time, maybe even thinking Mark is ‘the one.’ And to have Mark not reciprocate that can be very hurtful.

People unduly hate Amber. In the comics Amber was a bland af blonde white girl who didn't even blink at the superhero reveal. Because at the time big reveals and secret identities were the normative trope. However with Iron Man the subversion the comic Invincible did became normal so the show inverted that in order to deconstruct superhero tropes further. Now she's a black girl with self respect and people hate her. Mark promised no more lies and then only stopped lying when she broke up with him. The point isn't that she knew the point is that Mark learned how to be a hero from a secret villain so he has bad habits and beliefs that hurt others. Amber was dating Mark for months. He believed he could consistently lie to her with obvious lies as if she were stupid. All that time she had known she was waiting for him to be honest. Then when he literally disappears in a crisis she pushes his lie to try to force his hand and he still wouldn't. It wasn't until the breakup he was honest. Which is very much like the cut in half trope. But yeah next episode is fantastic. Can't wait to see the reaction.

I feel like the people who hate Amber haven’t taken the time to see it from her point of view. They’re just basing their opinions on Marks perspective and how they’re told superhero relationships are “supposed” to play out from other media. Realistically she’s been made to feel like about the relationship for a while and she stuck around because she liked Mark. Also, like you said this is a world with Superheroes, if you’re going to be in a relationship with someone, especially if you guys are planning futures together, they should know. They should be able to make an informed opinion on whether or not they are willing to deal with the baggage and danger that comes with dating a superhero. Like you just said there is a reason they have a secret identity because it is a dangerous job and people will come after your friends, family and significant other. Don’t you think your significant other should be informed about the possible dangers they could be facing?
