People have to cut Rudy some slack. He's not a fighter he's a mage. There is an entire battle system that hasn't been explained in the anime. It's called battle aura. It basically is a physical enhancement to the body which gives you superhuman feats and reflexes. Rudy doesn't have this. Only his trained muscles and normal human reflexes. In the LN he literally couldn't see far enough into the future to tell what the hydra was doing because it was so fast. And even when he could it was only like 1 second, which is nothing. Doesn't matter if you can see it if you can't dodge it. Yet alone warn people in time for them to react as well. He had to be point blank in order to hurt it with magic. Basically at 10% HP the hydra went off script and started using its stumped limbs to attack, which Rudy had to focus on which made him lose track of the normal head. The limbs also kept Talhand and Elise busy as they had to protect themselves and Roxy. Also, Paul could cut the hydra because he had a legendary sword that gets sharper the tougher the object basically is.

Read another comment that to Rudy's magic eye, the hydra using its necks like whips basically looked like the dempsey roll. It was nonsense he had a hard time processing, which Paul picked up on. He wasn't cocky, he just wasn't as good at analyzing the hydra's movements as Paul was, and the hydra's movements actually became harder to analyze with magic eye. Paul picked up on both Rudeus's weakness and the Hydra's actions and jumped in for the save.

@@GaimeGuy People need to know something. Rudy couldn't keep up, not mentally, but physically. He doesn't have Battle Aura. The ability to manipulate mana throughout the body. (this hasn't been explained in the anime) Its invisible to the eye, but enhances your strength and reflexes. Fighting without it is like playing a game with input lag. His demon eye closes that gap slightly, but he isn't physically capable of dodging the Hydra's attacks. In return though he has an abundant pool of mana. This was by no means Rudy's fault. Even if you can see an attack coming, it doesn't matter if you can't dodge it. The hydra went off script at around 10% HP. It's headless limbs began attacking everyone including Rudy. Which left Elise preoccupied, and Talhand left to defend Roxy. They had to block it because the scales were as sharp as blades. This left the main last head free to attack Rudy. (Remember, he needed to be point blank to hit it with magic.) If you are incapable of doing something, is that your fault? If you, a normal human were in that scenario, (keep in mind rudy only has the muscles he's built and normal reflexes) would you be able to get out of the way? People now are mistakenly referring to Rudy as a glass cannon. This is not true. By definition, a glass cannon is all firepower with little to no defense. Rudy has impeccable defensive earth magic and control magic with quagmire (giggidy). Rudy would most likely win in a 1v1 in a lot of battles. This was different. He was placed in a situation where he was forced to be defenseless and rely on allies to cover him. The hydra was just too fast. Everyone was caught off guard by its intelligence. Did you expect it to rip off its own neck to regrow heads, or to use its dead limbs as sharp blunt weapons? Probably not, but still the situation was simply unlucky. Rudy was in his worst element. Close range. A knife is still more effective against an undrawn firearm within 5 feet.

@@DirewolfMemento Thanks man, this is the best explanation of Rudy's situation I've ever read. It's just outside of Rudy's control so it's Rudy's fault. Unfortunately the anime do not have the luxury to explore all the nuances in the LN and portrayed all the scenes correctly under the time constraint.

Yeah rudy is just a powerful mage but he isnt a warrior. Hopefully this episode and future arcs makes it clear to people who think hes an op isekai mc that he really isnt. Even when he becomes way stronger, he can still struggle.

Rudeus was having hard times tracing Paul's movements he explain sometimes Pauls was blurring due to his speed. The Hydra was an intelligent being and understood the weakest link but the most dangerous was Rudeus. Fighting the last head the hydra was scared and shaking like crazy, the monster was trying to survive too. One of the things anime didn't show is the thought process behind the first attack from Rudeus earth canon he applied the same strength as he did against Badi he was thinking in one shooting the Hydra but the way the monster can absorb mana is just godlike. In the anime they portrait Rudeus like he was letting his guard down but the thing is the fight was at super fast pace and Rudeus couldn't keep up with everything that was happening. Another thing they explain is the breath of only 1 head can completely evaporate a river so Rudeus tanking alone 3 heads is a testament of his power.

@@醤油の発注多い多い2021 Is it his fault if he doesn't have a "Touki" to protect him? Touki is the warrior's aura, which allowed Paul to cut off the heads of the hydra without harm. You have to be talented and train for a long time to improve it. Rudeus lacks it and is therefore vulnerable to melee.

You can't really pity him for the death of his first father, considering how he took the news. What is good is that he himself will become aware of this during his mourning for Paul. It once again shows the difference between who he was and Rudeus Greyhart.

@FotsoFOZIN paul managed to cut the hydra was mainly because of his new short sword he bought that cuts anything as if its a piece of paper, the harder the thing your cutting is the more easy it is to cut that was the speical sword he bought which was really helpful against the hydra but paul's touki really did help in dodging and manuevering against the battle.

Paul Greyrat wore both the Cloak of Life and the Cloak of Death. But it was not enough to earn him the Cloak of Longevity. And Zenith...she has been out of depth ever since the Teleportation Incident. If it was up to me, I'd rather put Zenith out of her misery.

Some might consider this SPOILER but... The thing with zenith is that she is NOT a vegetable. She still has her memories and she also understands whats going on around here. She also hasnt lost her mind. I dont wanna go too far into details but cause of reasons she can only talk via telepathy at his point. For people who cant communicate via telepathy, they only hear her making weird noices whenever she tries to communicate ( people misinterpret it and believe her brain is mush). It is the same with this blue haired race roxy is part of. Out of all those villagers , only the village major ( to communicate with outsiders) and roxy's parents ( learned to speak "normally" for roxys sake), are able to speak like a normal person. All the others can only talk via telepathy. Do you remember roxy's trauma? She cant use telepathy so whenever the other villagers tried to communicate with her she only heard weird noices, zenith is pretty much like them. Zenith would be able to talk with roxy's parents. SPOILER Rudy and roxy's daughter can communicate with zenith via telepathy. Also, zenith never really recovers but her state is nowhere near as bad as this episode might suggest. She cant directly talk with rudy ( or most characters), but she can experience the family life just as much as everyone else.

アニメに水をさすようだけど、やはり超クオリティじゃないと基本的にどんなものも原作が最も出来が良いことが多い。無職転生をより楽しみたいと思ってる人はまだまだ完結じゃないんだし、そこも含めて原作の方を読む事をお勧めする

アニメはやっぱりカットが目立つし、そもそも媒体の感覚の差を感じる。アニメや漫画は常に時間に追われているから全ての行動にはっきりとした意味を求めがちだけど小説の方だともっと自然な空気感というか、現実に近しい感覚を想起させる為の文章や会話が盛り込まれている

Rudy's reaction was totally justified. It doesn't show clearly in the anime, but the hydra started attacking with the headless neck which caught rudy off guard since he's focusing on the hydra's remaining head. Rudy may have foresight eyes but he doesn't have touki which paul has that helps him move better than an average person(touki is basically the thing that badigadi talked about which can enhance the person's physical abilities and toughness). For rudy, its like dodging a bullet one meter ahead of him which is impossible. Since they need to get close to the hydra to deal magic damage to it, it makes it even harder for rudeus to dodge since he can't move like paul.(btw, eris also has touki) one important thing to mention is the hydra was moving at an insane speed that even paul was struggling to dodge its attack so it makes even less sense if rudy could safely dodge the hydra's attack when the monster is right in front of him.
