Win 6573 pretty much sums up why I think everyone likes this arc so much. You could replace the strawhats with any number of shows heroes as the rival force of the base and the point would be the same. The fact we do not need Luffy and them to make the arc work... I mean Replace the Crew with the Z fighters of DBZ; or Team Urameshi from Yu Yu Hakusho; or whatever. Comander Johnathan would still use his wits to make a learning experience for his crew by never endangering them uselessly but allowing all the starts to be played out. Sure especially the DBZ crew; but most others would trash the place worse. I really want a future filler that brings these guys back but this time its Buggy or one of the other known Pirate crews that end up dealing with them... only this time the location is top of the line and so fancy it ruined the Comanders people of the senses. meaning now they are complacent or lazy because everything has run to smoothly vs this arc where they were forgotten.

About win 6591: Not only that, the pirate symbol Bellamy had drew on the Merry when he had attacked Cricket is not his own but Doflamingo's. Apart from their own flag, the Bellamy Pirates are also using the Donquixote Pirates' jolly roger to show their affiliation. They all look up to him, even though Doffy himself doesn't think much of them, as seen in this scene. (Donquixote Doflamingo has two nicknames; you may see people refer to him as either Doffy or Mingo in the fandom)

As someone who watched this weekly when these came out (with most likely fan subtitles) I did not notice when the series became HD or at least I did not remember the shift myself So it is pretty neat that you pointed that out ^_^ (cause it made me learn something new about One Piece and that is rare :P)

Yep this is the long ring long land arc of lrll for short and it is a pretty infamous arc because because it feels like filler but no it's cannon and it in my opinion has one redeeming quality and that's at the end of the arc.

So after all the fun with G-8 you do get a small dip in what is Long Ring Long Land arcaka the Davy Back arc. It has some fun stuff, it's by no means bad, it was just a bit low stakes - Foxy and his crew being more nuisance than threat - and a little overdrawn by the anime, many anime watchers thought that this was the filler arc, plus has the misfortune of being sandwiched between Skypeia/G-8 and the acclaimed Water Seven arc.

Fun fact, the episode 207 is where One Piece finally enter 16:9 format, back then they're were using letterbox format but because of the island they land in in 207, Toei decide use it as a joke while transitions beautifully to16;9 format

About win 6524: I wonder if Luffy's attention to the fish on the wall is intentional. This is the Blue Fin Elephant Tuna Sanji won in the cooking competition in LogueTown. I love when the anime team adds little things like that in filler arcs/scenes. It's clear that they too are OnePiece fans and that this is not just another job to them. The Foxy Pirates arc is my least favorite arc in all of One Piece, but I feel like you might just be able to make me appreciate it over the next few videos, considering how other things I've disliked you've managed to help me appreciate (though not necessarily enjoy). As always, your positivity and enthusiasm are contagious, and I look forward to your next video! The actual Water 7 and Impel Down arcs are some of my absolute favorites, though, and I can guarantee they'll be yours too, and you WILL cry multiple times. Looking forward to it!

Well, now we're getting into the Long Ring Long Land Arc. Many people give this arc a hard time for feeling a lot like a filler arc, and a lot of that can be blamed on the anime crew. Not only did they extend the length of the original arc significantly with some additional filler episodes, but they also took the most important plot point of the original Long Ring Long Land arc and moved it to the end of a completely different filler arc. I can totally understand why people aren't a fan of this arc, but I like to say something nice about each of the arcs going into them. I am a bit biased since I've only read the original manga but I personally consider Long Ring Long Land one of the funniest arcs in the entire series.

they turned a short 19 chapter (which should be about 6-7 episodes) into 30 EPISODES by making luffy act out of character and that just feels awful.

How did this arc go in the manga and what's the important plot point?

@@communistperson I highly doubt Anime Wins will read this far down the reply chain but obligatory spoiler warning anyway: Well for starters, the boat race wasn't all the Straw Hats vs. all the Foxy Pirates, it was 3 on 3. Nami, Robin, and Usopp vs. Porche, Capote, and the shark Monda. The rest of the Foxy Pirates still did interfere from the shoreline though. Second of all, in the original manga there was only one Davy Back Fight. After the Groggy Ring event it just went straight to the fight between Foxy and Luffy. Which does mean he never actually loses Robin or Chopper the second time in the manga. The roller derby, dodgeball, and red light green light events were all completely made up for the anime. Third of all, instead of the final round being for 500 people, it was just done under the normal rules and Luffy simply chose to take their flag which was then replaced by his crude redraw. The important plot point I was talking about was the encounter with Aokiji. In the manga he shows up when they return to Tonjit's house, and him freezing the ocean was originally done to help Tonjit return home. Tonjit's grandson Rittonto was made up for the anime. In the anime, they cut that scene and instead moved it to the end of the anime-only Foxy's Return arc. Him freezing the ocean was done to save a group of people stranded on a deserted island instead.

Sheperd is one of the best antagonists in the franchise, even though he's from a Filler Arc. Not only for his outstanding personality, but also how smart and effective he was. If one looks back, NOBODY in that could have even beaten Chopper in a 1v1, they were all fully trained Marines, yes, but still just mooks compared to the Strawhats. But still, by organizing them properly, preparing ambushes, baits, hiding the Gold in an unexpected place, and analizyng the situation to accurately and believably predict the Starwhats movements, he managed to put them all in Check multiple times. And not only he got a perfect Checkmate at the end by being on the brink of not only capturing them all, but capturing all the Strawhats ALIVE, having lost none of his soldiers in the process, he did it without having anyone particularly strong in his side, not even himself! The only reason why the Starwhats got away, was because the nepotism of the Marine got a completely incompetent superior officer come to his base and ruin his plans multiple times. If it wasn't for Condoriano, Shepard would have gotten the Strawhats at the vault, and a second time during their last attempt at escape! This man, is a FRIGING LEGEND.

Something I noticed while watching this: Johnathan actually ducks at 16:20, when Nami uses the thunderbolt attack. Why? Because he saw Nami duck, and he immediately realized there must be some reason why she does that. It says so much about him, and it's also great attention to detail again from the animators. 29:33 I'm sad that you didn't win that part before this, where Luffy gets weirdly serious about the bamboo all of a sudden, and then Ussopp looks closely at it and the bamboo moves. I always liked that part. 36:52 I also feel it's a waste that you didn't include that joke where Foxy's own net falls on him. It's an early indication of just how much of a joke the guy is, which will be comming back throughout the arc.

Lots of people hate on the arcs and especially the added fillers but don't pay them no mind. Sure it doesn't feel like it advances the plot a lot but from your personality I'm sure you'll appreciate the characters gag and interaction. The character works are understated and having more time with the crew is always great to forge a deeper connection with the cast. This arc just relax and have some fun it's sad that so many people are against having some fun.

@SUPERSIDESWIPER I'd personally disagree with the "skipping this arc" statement because of various reasons I will not spoil here, and it's intended to be a pallet cleanser after, in the case of the manga, skypeia, and giving you a break before what eventually comes down the road (IYKYK). Hills and valleys, escalation and de-escalation, and all that when it comes to storytelling. I will agree, however, that as an arc, it's one of the weaker ones, if not the weakest, debatably, but I wouldn't say it's really bad or skippable, like, say, garlic Jr saga in dragonball z is, for example. It serves its purpose well, it's light, it's funny, it's fun, but, like popcorn, you are left hungry for more after a while after consuming it. A good 7-ish out of 10 for me personally, and 7 isn't even that bad. It's just pretty decent.
