So, in the scene right before Fido's POV in the last episode where Lena sees the wall of names. She repeats "I will not forget" 5 times. Why? Because their names aren't there. She thinks they were forgotten in that moment, and that only she has their names. In her mind at the moment she believes the Federacy saw them as just nameless, dead bodies. It was her soul being crushed as she believed the reason the Federacy had Para Raid tech was because they got it off the corpses of her dear friends. I know you didn't catch it, because if you had, it would have been 2 max wins. I cry EVERY TIME I see that scene and I regularly go back to re-watch the masterfully done last two episodes. She said I will not forget 5 times... Once for each of them.

86 has to be one of my favourite anime as I honestly never expected it to be so impactful, really made me tear up so many times. So glad you were finally able to release part 2. I'm really hoping we get a S2 someday as I'd love to see where the story goes and if shin manages to handle a relationship with our main girl

Somethings I think got missed is that all the coffee is substitute coffee, made from different types of grains and plants, like sunflowers. I think it was sunflowers in S1 and some type of grain in S2. About the scene where the 86 blows the bridge, not so much about rhe brains but moreso about how they'll still complete their objectives even if it kills them. In this case blowing the bridge to slow the Legion advance. Like they said in S1, they won't give up because they have their pride as warriors in this war of the damned. Overall 86 is one of my favorite series. After I saw the first season I went out and bought the available novels and I've been keeping up every since. Truly will be with me for a long time.

One of my favorite things about the second cor of 86 is that the time is taken to show the Spearhead squadron trying to integrate into civilian life. That is not something shown in a lot of war stories.

One of the biggest things that gets missed about President Zimmerman and why he is the way he is is because he lost his family (wife and children) in the Giadian revolution that changed them from an Empire to a Federacy. It's part of the reason why he adopted Frederica, the former Empress, and adopted Spearhead Squadron. This is his new family that he has built for himself, and as the early to mid parts of the season progresses he begins to realize he cannot protect them the way he wants to. Further, as much as his nation doesn't want the 86 to fight, when the time comes they have few reservations of throwing them into the line of fire. It's why Ernst says he'll destroy the world - this man has already lost so much in life that it's a warning that if anything happens to his children he's going full villain mode this time.

48:42 I really thought you'd mentioned the editing and directing here, what with the top and bottom bars going from black(despair/loss/frustration) to white(relief/awe/hope/...love?) as this scene, and Lena's reveal goes on. I actually fing cried while typing that out. I am mega weak to 86. This episode is one of my all time favorites, just for the unending abyss of woe that came with the victory to save humanity, and the blinding, life-affirming light of the new sumrise that represents the renewal of many, many things for our beloved MCs. Yup, more stupid tears.

Episodes 21-23 is among the best 3-episode stretch I've seen in not just anime, but in just about any television program. It is just so perfectly done, from the animation, sound, music choice and implementation, psychology, and emotions - and storytelling. It's why 86 is among my top 5 anime and LN series I've currently experienced. And, having read the LN series to what has been released to this point in English, season 2, if/when it's adapted, will actually top season 1, because the story gets even better.

The last two episodes, if you don't have tears in your eyes, then you don't have a heart. Seeing the team, all banged up but alive, moves me to tears every time I see it, and I've watched that scene dozens of times. The highest possible praises for the team who worked on making this masterpiece of an anime. The visuals, the characters, the voice work, the music, all of it deserves all the praise it receives and then some more. May S2 come soon and be just as good, if not better.

I really hope we get a season 2, right now I´m diving into the LN and it´s amazing. Hiroyuki Sawano has composed the best epic OST that I remember, including AOT, that´s why it sounds so familiar.

It easily became my number 1 anime, from the story and characters to the music, GO DAMN THE MUSIC IS AMAZING, SAWANO IS A LEGEND! I'm SOOO happy you did this! Also, R.I.P to Billy Kametz, the original English VA of Shin. He was actually unable to voice the last 2 episodes as they were delayed and he'd been under chemotherapy by the time they aired.

86 has become my second best anime of all time. It's almost perfect. The level of production is masterful. Directing, editing, writing, soundtrack and voice acting it's one of the best I've ever seen in my life. I'm longing for a second season that still today is not confirmed. WHY?. The inclusion of Frederica in the second part is amazing. In the beggining we can though of her like a comedy relief character, but the dialog and relationship between her and Shin is a masterpiece of writing. Ernst too. This is symbolims, the anime. The epithome of "show, don't tell". Visual storytelling at it's best. The OST is also a masterpiece. Doings of Sawano (there's the Attack on Titan reference) and Yamamoto. It's in my playlist and sound it every day since I got it. Love your video. It's show how much you love watching this. Random comment. I declare my eternal love to Ikumi Hasegawa, Lena's voice actress (and also Kita from Bocchi the rock). She has become one of my favorite VA since I watch this. And also sings like a goddess.

Well, I just realized this early access videos allows me to comment without thinking that my comment would be lost among dozens of others. So here I go. I just chained your To Your Eternity video, then this one, and... both of these anime are among my few 10/10, so first of all I'm really happy to hear you so enthusiastic about them, but also, relieving those memories back to back are like too much for me. I'm an emotionnal mess now. When I first tried watching 86, I didn't expect much because I'm more the slice of life kind of guy, rather than the action-type, but wow. let's say it blew me away. So yeah I have nothing much to add, it was really great to be able to enjoy your video. Always nice to see you pointings out some details I either didn't notice nor remember too. Also, for this 2nd part of 86, I must give a shoutout to the "special" episode with comments from the staff. It was really insightful and it's good to see them talking passionately about their work. Definitely the best kind of "oops we can't meet diffusion delays" episode.

No mention at all that from the start of S2 Lena has dyed a bit of her hair red? It could be understood as a reminder for her of the blood spilled by those she commands, or could be as a way to relate and show the world that she has 'another color' like the 86. Also another point to attention to detail: when in earlier S2 episodes Frederica takes the picture of Shin and Eugene her fingers are in front of the lens. When we see that picture in Ep 23 we see one of her fingers showing up in the photograph. More symbolism? Train tracks are a constant throughout the show, always rigid and never ending into the horizon. When Lena finally meets Shin and the other four the train tracks there are the end of that line. Also, another more subtle one, is in Ep22: When Lena and Shin are 'meeting' they are at opposite sides of the frame, usually with a piece rock/debris (or "wall) between them in the establishing shot. As Lena expresses why she fights she starts getting closer and closer to Shin, in both a metaphorical and literal way as she walks towards him. Eventually she walks past that 'wall' (or "breaks it"?) and ends on his, just as she starts getting through to Shin and he starts to see there are things to look forward to.

Great video, tbh i think 86 is the most well written and full of symbolism anime with only 25 episode i've ever seen. Music wise is not even worth talking about since Sawano's name already speaks for himself. Just a little bit on detail for you to enjoy: LilaS (the song playing when Lena and Shin meet in the last episode) stands for Lena is lookin at Shin At the end their hands form the 86 number before the transition Avid (the song with wich season 1 ended) is a parallel to Voices of the Chord (the song when Lena and Shin meet after the fight with Kiriya), both have the same bases but lyrics change There are a lot more but it would be too much for just one comment. Great work!

Just in case no one else has mentioned it (and because commenting helps the algorithm :P), you are absolutely right, the music for this show is done by Hiroyuki Sawano who did a majority of the music for AoT, as well as many other shows (Aldnoah Zero, Recreators, Kabaneri of the Iron fortress, and some others as well). He'll be doing the music for Solo Leveling in winter of 2024, so look forward to that. Im really glad this show resonated with you. The characters in it are just incredible and the emotional highs and lows are surreal. The sheer amount of endorphins released when Shin told Lena who they were is the most I think I had ever felt in my life. I sat on that ending smile crying for way longer than I'd like to admit.

One of my favorite anime of all time, hands down. Easily one of the best in recent years, and that ACTUALLY does say a lot! I still remember how this season got put on serious hiatus when it was airing. I have to say the way they handled the hiatus was also praiseworthy. They started out with a one-week delay where they aired a special with some of the VAs doing reaction commentary to some of the scenes. Then a recap for a different one-week delay. Finally, having a multi-month delay for the final episodes. But I can say, the wait was well worth it. Left on the cliffhanger of the battle against the centipede Legion just for them to make their comeback with Lena's return was amazing. I still remember losing my mind to how they used an altered aspect ratio in that episode; seeing Lena literally go beyond the borders for her return. I went and said that the animators clearing weren't just sitting around during the hiatus; they had to have been pouring every ounce of their hearts and souls into making the comeback episode and the final episode as amazing and beautiful as humanly possible, and then some. This was, is, and will be for a while; one of my all-time favorite anime.

46:30 They are technically cousins if the sir name is anything to go by. I don't know how far back they are related, But Nouzen is the sir name of Kiriya and Shinei. That is what that "False Flashback" scene was about. I'm not into Mecha anime, but this one was so good that I was able to ignore the fact that it was a bunch of fighting "robots".

There aren't a lot of anime with music that just gets to me, but this is one. It's oddly reminiscent of Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress in some places, and now I'm gonna go rewatch that too.

I just love this Anime. Btw, I just have to ask: do you write the script and record after watching the whole show/season or are you doing it simultaneously? Anyway thanks!

22:38 - Sounds a lot more like the track MADNUG from Gundam Unicorn. Makes perfect sense, seeing as the co-composer for 86 also did Unicorn AND AoT.

Win 347 is well played in the LN. (SPOILERS IF YOU HAVEN'T READ THE LIGHT NOVELS) The two in the scene are having a private meeting about a seemingly nefarious plot against the 86th Strike Package, then one of the General's butlers reads the paperwork, and it's a pamphlet for a spa resort.

HeyBy the way Annette when she talks about Sheeen’s childhood she brings up that they had a dog that followed Sheeen everywhere I guarantee that’s why with the technology Fido is different than all the other mechs he has feelings scared happy sad excited It would make complete sense especially since we got to see that Fido had been with Sheeen since pretty much she joined up

43:52 Lena said fire, it maybe didn't said how far away are they, but as they retreated to the same place where they were in season 1. It is around 70 km and it was a good hint that they are next to magnolia. Also It is important that he shut down his communcation one because they knew about shin ability and two since because of that he was warnec about the attack

I think it was said they were in Republic territory, recently conquered. The Republic's mortars reaching that far isn't out of the realm of possibility, and Lena would be in charge of that.

I enjoyed the 2nd OP much more than the first as well but as far as stand alone songs go i like the first op song better. Love these videos so much, especially for 86 as it's my favourite anime. thank you ❤

The true crime is that this is STILL not available for BD purchase.. ... WTF! Just throwing money away. And yes, the AOT vibe is real when the Composer Sawano worked both projects. Support the OG content and buy the soundtracks so they can finally releass the Series for sale!!
