Nothing of a chess romantic. He is a modern player, playing solid, computer inspired chess, just like Magnus, Caruana, So and all those guys. Of the young generation, I guess Dubov could be the one that is closest to being a chess romantic..

1:47 "and Magnus plays Nc6, he blunders the knight", and it was in this position on move 10, that Magnus Carlsen resigns the game. He resigned of course because Magnus realized his knight was hanging and Anish could simply capture. Not what you would expect from the world champion, but of course, that's chess, what're you gonna do? -Agadmator, 2023

So much B4 action in this tournament. This combined with flashy Queen sacrifices and other 'blundered piece winning games' makes Tata Steel one of the best classical chess tournaments in a while. I was expecting positional snooze-fest but we have a really exciting tournament this year!

@@akshayktiwari311 Did he make it to be the world's number five with only draws? Wow, that's impressive! Whenever I read somebody's comment about Giri making a lot of draws, I think about the first world championship match between Karpov (reigning world champion at the time) and Kasparov, a story you very well might know. The format was much different at the time: an undefined number of games would be played; whoever wins six games first wins the match. Kasparov had a terrible start and lost four of the first nine games. After a series of draws Karpov won game 27, after which Kasparov could not afford a loss anymore. He managed to prevent sident at the time. (If you don't know the story please look it up: it's one of the most interesting stories in the rich history of chess). Well, I am just trying to say that playing a lot of draws is not necessarily a bad thing. Of course Carlsen is a master in turning tiny advantages into winning games, but really, he is one of a kind. Still the match with Caruana comes to mind, where all regular games ended in a draw. Did anyone complain about that? I don't think so.

Magnus seems like he will be losing more material here. The bishop attack on the rook on c7 forces the rook to move to e7, and the bishop can then go to b6 to attack the knight the second time. Only way to defend is for black bishop to go to d6, but white can still bring a third attacker in by moving rook from d1 to c1. In which case magnus either loses a rook for a bishop or he gives up the knight. From my amateurish pov anyway. Might want to check engine on that.

Not actually, I watched the actual stream. Agads evaluation was 99% wrong on that 'equal' position Peter Svidler said himself that it's literally impossible to hold a end game 2 knights vs 2 bishops He also gave few examples. So maybe an engine can draw that but humans even super gms and magnus got scared at that position. Im 100% sure magnus saw that position and evaluated that at "losing" so he didn't go for it
