I love Anish Giri's personality, he is a world class player yet he is very friendly and not arrogant at all. Also love that he is always cracking jokes ahahah

He is also a phenomenal teacher. Not many super GMs go so in depth with opening theory and ideas. It's as if they expect the average player to understand more because the ideas are so natural to them.

Anish just a savage at 14:55: "But of course [the classical sicilian] is a big opening. It's a favorit of Vidit, so it cannot be very good, but it's decent." Sagar never realizes what Anish just said. 😅
@Jim_Henderson4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I noticed that too. Maybe Sagar heard it and just decided he had nothing constructive to add. At another point Giri roasts Vachier-Lagrave as well. But Giri is a gentleman: his sarcasm is directed only toward his fellow super-GMs.

Man, you know you are watching something epic when you are glued to every word spoken and looking at the screen so intently for almost 2 hrs. I don't even remember any recent movie or series that I watched with so much attentiveness. This is a Goldmine and hands down one of the best streams and personally, a moment where I can say "God bless the internet", for once! The extra layer of the psychology at play at the elite level is fascinating. Time to follow the najdorf games at the next classical event xD

I prefer playing a6 on my 2nd move. It seems like if I allow the check from the bishop at b5 and the resulting pin allows a trade and it happens every time. The resulting trade favors white in my opinion. I do better when I keep the material on the board and only seeking to trade the c pawn for the d pawn. I find this slows down white's attack and gives more opportunity for an advantage. I also prefer to remain flexible with with where I place my queen's knight. I find it makes a difference in how you combat white's attempt at controlling the center. I also prefer to not move directly to e5. I find it makes for annoying placement on the d5 for white's knight, which will require a trade and then you are stuck with a backward d pawn. Backward pawns seem hard to defend and passed pawns usually seem very hard to stop as black, especially if you are challenged for space.

17:23 why not black knight takes e4 nxe4 qxf5 black simply wins a pawn
@lordstinson80954 жыл бұрын
No, after Nxe4, white can go Nxg7+, then Bxg7 Nxe4, ending up with equal material for both, but black's king side is open, so difficult to castle.
@S_Mukherjee.4 жыл бұрын
But then d5... white knight goes somewhere then with open g file black can play like classical sicillian with safe uncastled king in the centre
@S_Mukherjee.4 жыл бұрын

This entire variation is at least better than what Hari played with nd7 block instead of bd7 block
@lordstinson80954 жыл бұрын
It's playable, sure. But I personally would not prefer to play such a position with my king in center and white with semi-open central files. Plus, I don't believe our pawn structure is good.
