Gwendal looked radically different with the short hair, he looked like a different guy. Marina is looking exactly the same now as then :)

Impossible not to love them! & I miss them... Why there’s nobody like them now... I mean - in passion, sincere love for the piece of art that they are creating on the ice?.. It seems they don’t care about marks at all! They just enjoy! Unfortunately, many pairs today are like a pupil who has learned by heart a poem and tries to perform it perfectly, just without mistakes… But Marina & Gwendal are like Poets who create and enjoy! I miss such an art on the ice!

They could've placed higher at this event. They were still a little sloppy but the choreography was very ambitious. But I guess the judges made it clear that they didn't care for this material which is too bad.

I've actually changed my mind. If I had been a judge, I would've placed them second behind Grishuk & Platov. The content is so much more ambitious than either K&O's or B&K's free dances. Badly undermarked IMO.

@@gk891 this routine aged very well. It is still interesting to watch.

@@MsRumex I completely agree. They were still sort of in development as a team though at this point. But they really blossomed as performers a year later. It should've been this team, not Krylova & Ovsiannikov, who should've rivalled Grishuk & Platov.

@@gk891 It is strange someone like Didier could not politik better for them. I wonder if there was still too much politics being wasted on spent forces like Candelero, Bonaly, and Moniotte & Lavanchy, wasted on those rather than being used somewhere valuable like with this team.

@@grantgoffin4774 Yeah, for whatever reason politics was always against this team. I had them at least second at the 1996 Worlds, 1997 Worlds, and 1998 Olympics behind Grishuk & Platov. I also had them first at the 1998, 1999, 2000, and 2001 Worlds. And then they strangely only won the 2002 Olympics by a 5-4 split panel. This team really should've achieved a lot more.
