Honestly that’s how music is supposed to be now it’s like if you don’t scream holler or have 1 million riffs and runs you’re not considered a good singer that’s what the new age singers are now I am probably like the male version of Anita Baker don’t give me wrong I don’t sound like her exactly but I have a smooth voice and most people want that rich gospel sound because I love gospel music very very very much but this is just some good flat old singing

+Antwon Warren Years ago, I remember reading an interview with Luther when he and Anita were on tour together. He said he did suggest a collaboration but for some reason (I can't remember the reason he gave) it never happened. It does make you wonder what could have been? Just the thought of those two voices together is amazing.
@zonaedwards39329 жыл бұрын
+MagnusMG1 I too remember that tour in the 80s, it was something about neither one wanted to be opening act, and from that they couldn't stand each other!
@MagnusMG19 жыл бұрын
Zona Edwards lol Yes, I knew there was some disagreement but couldn't remember what exactly.. It seems like Luther might not have been easy to work with. Similar friction occurred when he and En' Vogue toured together. Things got so bad that En' Vogue pulled out. But whatever the man's personality there's no denying he made great music. Since his passing no other male R&B singer has stepped up to the mark.

Not sure what the deal with Anita Baker was, but I heard that Luther kicked En' Vogue of his tour as they were using vocal samples and weren't singing everything live.

I had to listen to this song today, don't know why but I went with my whimsy anyway. Then I saw she was on Video Soul and I remembered how much I missed that show. I was so mad when Donnie Simpson, after years of hosting the show by himself had a co-star Sherry Carter, but I got over it because their wasn't and still isn't a show that showed, premiered, and focused on R&B like Video Soul did. They had guest stars, as shown here, great interviews, and a top 20 at the end of the week where they showed videos IN FULL, unlike these days on shows like 106th and short attention span. None of the shows compare to the wonders of Video Soul. I still miss shows like this, other than midnight love you have to look for good r&b and good luck finding it. It's around but not like it used to be, hopefully it will return one day in full force and we can see talent like Anita Baker once again on a regular basis, because there is an audience and the audience is well deserved and appreciative of the love this kind of music has to give.:)
