For me, the greatest vocalist ever. I may be her #1 fan. The sultry distinction of her voice cannot be matched. She was, and is, a unique and one of a kind woman.

She will blow your socks off with Body & Soul, so good! Also, there are quite a few tracks on this album that are excellent: Same 'Ole Love, Sweet Love, and Caught Up In The Rapture.

I'm so glad I grew in this 80s and 90s R&B era. There are so many talented artists men and women that came out of that era. So Many! Great selection and reaction 🔥🔥🔥

There is just no comparison with Anita Baker's voice. It's smoky, sensuous, rich, full, soft, powerful, dynamic, chocolatety, sweet, bluesy, jazzy and some things in between. I remember so many radio plays, but she just came on the scene and was an instant hit and a breath of fresh air. THE INCOMPARABLE ANITA BAKER. 🌹

@@bridgethegapreactionslike you said, she we went full "gospel" at the end. that's what i hate about these new singers: they don't "go there." you never feel like they push their voice to its limit. even when they do, their voices are either so generic or lackluster, that it's disengaging or off-putting to listen to. too many singers today have this scratching/screeching to their vocal when they go there; i can't stand it! when it comes to music, OLD IS GOLD!!!

Anita Baker truly has one of the most unique voices and styles. A mix of R&B and jazz. You almost can't go wrong with her discography, but another quite beautiful track of hers is Angel. Also, if you don't know Chaka Khan, you might want to check her out as well. One of the best voices ever. She was originally with a band called Rufus, and then went solo. She spans funk, R&B, and jazz. Through the Fire is one of her biggest hits, written by David Foster. Not my favorite, but a beautiful song. Other songs of Chaka's: Everlasting Love, I'm Every Woman (later covered by Whitney), Sweet Thing (covered by Mary J Blige), Angel, and Ain't Nobody.

Anita's voice is a self orchestrated instrument, What I mean by this is her vocals actively intertwines with the musical instruments composed in her songs as opposed to following a common vocal cadence set by the melody of a song. Which makes her more than just a common singer. This is also in my opinion why she and very few other vocalist like her cannot be duplicated or replicate in song renditions like most singers. In watching her video interviews where she speaks of song inspiration and composition she references feeling, working in very close quarters and proximity to the musicians and the instruments being played on her songs. This approach is very different from simply entering a sound booth and singing in queue as directed by a sound engineer. Notice how Anita can stand on stage and sing with a loud playing band with no ear set piping in the bands sound to keep in sync with the bands musical delivery. This is because she too is a lead vocal instrument. She instead queues up her band raising her arms and giving different musicians, and background singers queues to follow with her voice. As I mentioned this is not only how Anita Baker performs live but how her music is recorded. Many of the the truly great musical vocalist displaying extreme originality in their vocal delivery have the added talent of musical composition which puts this type of singer on another level. Add to this Anita's song writing abilities that serve even more to create some of the most vocally original sounding songs ever made and heard.

THANK YOU!!!! THIS IS 1 OF THE BEST SHOUTOUTS IVE EVVER GOTTEN!! Thank you for doing Anita too, and thank you for giving me a recommended artist/group! I got another for you, 1 artist, 2 songs. Stephanie Mills (I've grown up with a handful of her songs on my R&B stations, but doing reactions has been getting me way more into her & her music. 1st song "I Feel Good All Over", and the 2nd song Home (Preferrably live at the Apollo 1989, but the recorded 1 is fine). But yea back to this Anita is something special, I wish she had a bigger discography than she does (this is actually her 40th anniversary as a solo artist, she started in the Detroit funk group Chapter 8 in the late 70s). And I just want to continue to salute you on the great work & progress you'vve been doing on your channel! Keep it up! And again thank you for the support & I got more coming your way :)

One of my favorite voices and my favorite singer's favorite singer, Mary J. Blige has always credited Anita as her favorite. For more Anita, the big hit is Sweet Love but the entire Rapture album is a must listen, but also Angel, No More Tears, Whatever It Takes (personal favorite), I Apologize, You're the Best Thing Yet, Just Because and then there is a hidden gem, I Just Want to be Your Girl by Chapter 8. She fronted that band in the late 70s before it dissolved and she went back to work as a secretary, before hitting it big solo in the early 80s. Its a great song as well.

Oh my god you take me back to when I was about 8 years old. I had a walkman and I would listen to music because I was a singer as a kid in the choir till I fell asleep. I didn't live in a very progressive area of the United States so black music r&b as you call it was not popular but I loved Anita Baker. I remember the climax of this song just giving me chills. She has so many good songs I would say Body and soul is probably my second favorite but this is my number one. Good job as always bud

Hey Johnnie. Mike from Virginia again.I was so thrilled that you actually listened when I suggested the WHITNEY Medley from Porgy and Bess..DreamWorks etc. But you left off a "major" one. ONE MOMENT IN TIME "LIVE" from either the GRAMMYS or the Oscars...I forget. But you'll know It when you see her with the Big Afro looking hair and that white sleeveless Gown. I heard you mention it after All the Man...but you never played it.. Chante' Moore is another Awsome singer you don't know about. She had everyone in the U.S. talking about her " Live " performance on the Awards show last week. Just Google Chante' Moore's " Live performance at the Awards show.KZbin BEEN RUNNING IT HARD. HER VOICE IS IS LIKE 70s Diana Ross classy vocal articulations with a dash of Mariah Carey! You're gonna love Chante' Moore!!! Also please Do George Michael featuring ELTON JOHN..."LIVE"...SINGING.."DON'T LET THE SUN GO DOWN ON ME"!(I CAN'T STOP DOING REPEAT IT'S A "GEM." Thanks again for doing ANITA BAKER!!!😁❤🙏 !

The thing about Anita Baker is that not only she's one of the most influential singers, she is also one of the rare female soul singers who writes and is involved in the production side of music in studios as well as on stage. She truly is a part of the band when performing and you can tell that she is a "musician". I always come back to this one particular performance of hers where she sings one of her more up-tempo hits "Same Ole Love" live during a concert. A lot of people associate her with slow ballads but the way this woman can ride the rhythm is just pure genius. I really hope you'll do more reactions to Anita Baker. kzbin.info/www/bejne/g3qXnaynfNqjr9U
