I don't think Josh Groban is underappreciated. The entire world as it were knows he's a tremendous singer. But some songs just need to be left alone. This is one of them
@Snarethedrummer3 жыл бұрын
@@sulatlalaki you're correct in that he's not underappreciated. I think you're quite wrong about songs being "left alone". Covers are vitally important to make old music accessible to newer generations. I'm in my 30s and wouldn't know this song at all if not for this cover. "Leaving songs alone" are the best way to have them lost and forgotten to time. Vocal megastars from Dolly to Pavarotti sing songs that they didn't write, the tradition is long-standing and serves a valid purpose. You're more than welcome to not like (and presumably not give attention to) a cover, but there is no song 'sacred' enough to not sing, as well as no individual qualified enough to make such a designation.

This is one of the saddest songs ever written and I know Josh will give all the emotion and depth of a Van Gogh's painting. Yes, it's perfect. It never makes me feel sad as others often say it does. It came onto the top of the charts when I was young, and in a really happy and exciting time during my first adventure overseas. Perhaps that 'feeling' of euphoria prevailed. It still does for me. 7.2020.

I freely admit, as a pro classical "person"... I grew up as a teen with Mclean singing this... there's a wonderful ( Don's original) recording of his song on KZbin that features many repros of van gogh's paintings. It's beautiful! I just LOVE C. Parkening.... and this arrangement. To tell the truth, I was never a Groban fan. However, he sings this with such depth of feeling. Groban "understands" this and I honestly love his interpretation! My sincere thanks to Anita8891 for sharing this... "they did not listen, they're not listening still"..... however "I" did listen several times. "Now...perhaps, I understand." This performance is indeed artistic. THANK YOU. so very much.

Josh, you are the gift of this generation and to listen to you sing is a privilege. You sang this beautifully, no question. But there is a reason that there have been so few covers of this song over the years. It is simply Don's song. No one can deliver it with the emotion with which he wrote those lyrics. Love to you.

There are people who can sing, and then singers, then there are singers who can sing followed by singers who can really sing, and then there are singers who sing with the command of such reverence that its almost spiritual so hear them..Josh is that of a singer...its not only an honor to listen to him sing....but the saving grace we as a world need to understand

Got the sad news of my older cousin`s passing just after midnight this morning. Don McLean`s "Vincent" was the first song comming to my mind that moment. Listened to the original, lyric, version and to a live cover version by Ed Sheeran and was touched allready! But, wanting or not, I need to say, Josh Groban`s voice and the virtuous guitar playing of Christopher Parkening got me a kind of "goosebump and shivers down the spine" emotions and feelings I never expected! Well done! Chappeau! Rest in peace, Klaus-Dieter ;-( You are missed.......

The Way Back Machine takes us back to when Josh Groban was a very young man and when he sang, all was right with the world. I never tire of relistening his first album, when all he wanted to be was a baritone. He's stretched his vocal range to mostly tenor now. Pop songs. We all miss that warm rich baritone.
@Anita88914 жыл бұрын
I totally agree, his voice was so perfect those years ago, his voice sounded diffrent, these days those pop songs aren't the same, I miss those old times and this masterpiece albums.. ❤️

Understated?! There's nothing understated about Josh Groban's performance here. It's the exact opposite. He's Josh-Grobanizing it too much with big notes that climb almost to belting and with operatic vibrato. Understated is how Don McLean performed it. This is not that. Not anywhere near that. And I'm not saying a remake needs to be a reiteration of the original or saying I totally hate this performance, but the one thing it most definitely is NOT is "understated."
