As one who makes mostly bread and pizza doughs, I selected the Ank after watching many videos and reading a lot of reviews. My initial idea was to sell my KA mixer, which does not knead well, and find a spiral dough mixer. Unfortunately most are either too large, too expensive, single-speed only, or do not open/come apart for cleaning. After using the Ank myself I have no regrets. The doughs produced show good gluten development from kneading in the Ank.

My parents’ assistant is still going strong (bought 1974) but my grandmother’s old one gave up after 70 years of service.

I absolutely love my Ankarsrum. Totally worth it. I’ve made bread, cookies, cakes, whipped cream, and butter.

I absolutely love my Anka. Usually use it to make a single loaf (approx 1kg dough) but have made as much as 4kg of dough in one go (using the hook). It should be able to deal with 5kg without any problems. Takes a little bit of getting used to.

From the basic principles of electrical load is it advisable to engage the ON dial first and then dial upon the revs or is it equally ‘safe’ to set the speed first [eg high as you want] and then flick the power/current on?

I’ve heard 600 watts, 800 and now over 1000. Not sure but I believe mine is either 600 or 800. Have to check that out, not now though because it’s 2 AM and I’m watching videos on stand mixers. I know, severe sleep deprivation. Found the wattage answer. USA is 600 watts because of our 110 system.
