I think thats the dilemma, on a small unit like this, the extra weight isn't noticeable but when you get bigger it becomes a real issue so it seems to make the most sense on very small or very big that are less mobile. I have a feeling in the next 5 years we will see another chemistry that gives us the best of all of it.
@AZHighlandHomestead3 жыл бұрын
@@SilverCymbal agreed. The bigger units are great, but heavy. I think lots of people buying power stations or battery banks have historically been on either end of the spectrum, but your example of powering your computer through this unit and having it on battery power automatically if the power goes out is a great example of why this would be a good size. Then it can also be mobile for camping/beach/lake/etc

@@Dirt-Diggler I did not know that anchor made one this size and based on their quality and customer support I had to have one. Actually I've made battery banks Pretty simple but to have one all put together. Nice like this and on sale for $50 off is pretty good, especially using lithium iron which is like way more durable. I even put an 80 watt solar panel on top of my suburban and it worked awesome! But as far as anchor having this specific product no I didn't know they even make even bigger ones. I'm thinking about getting The even bigger one.
@ryanmiller48902 жыл бұрын
Actually using a 100w solar panel would be the best way to go. If you use a 60w panel you won't get the full 60w, probably end up getting in the high 40's to low 50's. Using a 100w panel would probably get you in the 80's range which would charge the station quite well.
@makego2 жыл бұрын
Correct. Also, it has a charge controller built in so it won't "burn out the port" if supplied with 100W solar. A 12V input from a vehicle cig port is typically a 15-amp circuit and it doesn't draw all 180 watts available and blow the fuse, it self-limits to 65W (4+ hours to charge). He also has other misinformation in the video--it's 256Wh, not 298.

Overpriced, can get similar specs from Golabs, their 256Wh unit (the i200) is only $199. Honestly manufactures still need a way to go regarding charging time, the GoLabs i200 seems to limit me charging around almost 70 watts (I felt it is limited also to 65 watts or so). Most Lithium chems can handle 1C charging so I don't know why they don't let us charge it way faster, let it take in 150 watts or something. We have GOT to get charge times shortened to make these devices more useful

@maxoverridemax2 жыл бұрын
Question why would the wattage on the solar matter. To my understanding a device will only draw the amount of power it needs. So if it's hooked up to 100 watt solar panel wouldn't it only draw the 60 watts it needs and nothing else? For example I have a DC cooler that has a 48 watts draw. But my Jackory can put out 100 watts but the cooler only draws the 48 it needs to run.
@makego2 жыл бұрын
You're correct; the built-in charge controller limits input to 65W. He doesn't understand this.
@maxoverridemax2 жыл бұрын
@@makego I don't even think the built-in charge controller will regulate the current. The current should regulate itself. I took an Electronics class along time ago. The way my teacher explained it to me was this. If you match the voltage requirements of a load and the minimum current requirements it will work if the current supply is larger the load will simply use what it needs and nothing more. At least that's the way my brain understand it. I still could be wrong. I got a jackery. The model says it requires a 60 watt solar panel. But I can hook up a 100 watt solar panel as long as the voltage is within spec of what the jackery can take. So I couldn't in theory wire two solar panels in parallel so long as the voltage is still within spec of the jackery it won't charge any faster but it won't overload it either. I would wire two solar panels in parallel on like a cloudy day.

I just Liked this Video and Subscribed to your channel ! I bought an Anker 521 Power Station and hoping to locate a suitable adapter to charge it with a Solar Panel. I have seen a few reviews on Amzon that some folks are buying a common 8mm plug and have to cut or modify the barrel to get it to fit. I have a ZAMP folding Solar Panel with SAE connections. I understand that the Controller with most Solar Panels needs to be Bypassed to properly charge most Power Stations. I believe that Anker recommends using a 7.9mm plug also know as a "7909 DC" to charge their Power Stations with a Solar Panel. I am looking for a quality Plug and Play adapter / cable. Any comments on what specific make and model of an adapter to fit an Anker 521 to an SAE connection would be Great !
