Some things Bills fans might see as essential to the story: 2017: Bills plan ahead and trade the 10th pick to the Chiefs, who draft Mahomes. 2018: Josh shows his first flash of being special by hurdling Anthony Barr in a major road upset against the Vikings. 2022: Damar Hamlin's cardiac arrest resets the whole tone of the season and affects their playoff run. 2023: At 6-6, the team seems on the verge of collapse, but they rally behind their HC and Allen until injuries to the defense hobble them in the playoffs.

The 2022 season could be a whole video itself. Hamlin's cardiac arrest on the field vs Cincinnati was the last in a list of things surrounding the Buffalo area that year that would leave anyone drained.

ONE The demented miser Ralph Wilson died--Terry Pegula bought the team TWO they got rid of the last remnants of Wilson's group of "YES" men--Doug Whaley and the useless Russ Brandon THREE Hired a coach (Sean McDermott) who had been mentored by Andy Reid FOUR Hired GM Brandon Beane who has also worked in Carolina with McDermott. From there they assembled this team from scratch piece by piece with the drafting of Josh Allen even though he came from a smaller college (Wyoming) and had essentially been overlooked by other teams (including Denver and the Jets). I'm sure Pegula will ensure that McDermott and Beane get contract extensions beyond 2027, especially with the new stadium opening in 2026.

6:00 was probably the lowest point of my fandom. I had been 8 at the time of the Tragedy in Tennessee and was now 25, having watched nearly 2 decades of bad football. I was kinda apathetic at this point and believed that the team would never do better. The hiring of Sean McDermott changed this franchise. EDIT: Good video. There are some factual mistakes here and there (omitting the Week 17 cancelled game vs Cincy in 2022 seems relevant and the depth chart is a bit mistaken here and there over the years) but overall, very well done.

2013 offseason is a totally arbitrary start to the development of the current Bills era. One could make a case for starting a year later when Terry Pegula purchased the franchise. But the true beginning of the current era began in the 2017 offseason when HC Sean McDermott and later GM Brandon Beane were hired. They immediately began reshaping the roster through a #1 emphasis on bringing in players with good character and a team-first attitude. They’ve succeeded in that 99% of the time. Almost every free agent brought in has gone on record stating that the camaraderie and trust within the organization is like nothing they’ve ever experienced with any other NFL team. I think that’s the key to this current era because how many other franchises would have botched the development of Josh Allen even if they had drafted him? It’s no coincidence that the only other 2018 rookie QB still finding success with the team who drafted him is Lamar Jackson who went to a stable and highly competent organization. This year’s huge success despite all of the preseason noise about how the Bills would struggle as they “reloaded” their roster is all the proof anyone needs that the current Bills leadership is among the elite franchises in the NFL and that the Bills’ Superbowl window is wide open each and every year until JA17 retires (hopefully in the far distant future!) Everything started in 2017 with the beginning of what Bills Mafia refers to as the “McBeane” era.

Gilmore actively wanted out of Buffalo. He was asking for top 3 CB money at the time, and in Buffalo most saw him to be not worth it. After going to the Patriots however.. DPOY, multiple pro-bowls etc. for context, I always thought he was a solid corner, and was sad he left.
