Thank you this was very helpful. A physiotherapist gave me a piece of paper listing exercises to do with a band but she didn't have the band so she couldn't really show me how to do them, and by the time the band arrived I had no idea what I was supposed to do with it. This video makes it very clear.

When isolating a muscle/tendon while strengthening, it is important to strengthen that one muscle and not allow for substitution. Substitution means that the patient will use another group of stronger muscles to do the activity, and not use the weaker muscle (it will go along for the ride). By isolating a muscle/tendon, you can increase its strength rather quickly and correct muscle imbalances produced by strong vs weak muscles. Dr Rich Blake

Great video. What do you mean at position number one - the right angle? What should be the right angle between the foot and the leg?

If you work out your calves, does that translate into stronger ankles as well?

I sprained my ankle a week ago but still have swelling just not as bad. Should I go through with exercises like this or is it too soon?

Why did you ask her to stop when she started to substitute?
