For those interested in such trivia, there was a 10 year age difference between these two great British actresses. Deborah Kerr CBE, was born on 30th September 1921, making her 62 when this was filmed at the Ritz Hotel, London, England in May 1984. Claire Bloom CBE, was born on 15th February 1931, and was 53 here. Deborah Kerr died in 2007 aged 86, after sadly suffering with Parkinsons Disease. At time of posting, August 2024, I'm delighted to say Claire Bloom is still with us at the great age of 93, and she looks wonderful by the way! She has enjoyed a long acting career, with her most recent TV/film credits 2018/2019. Thank you for sharing this little gem, though alas the script did not do justice to these two big screen legends - perhaps, at least in part, because it was a female story, written by a man! Nonetheless, it was a treat to see two great stars, against the equally famous and elegant backdrop of the Ritz Hotel, on Piccadilly, Mayfair, central London. It's well worth a visit there for afternoon tea, for anyone who hasn't experienced that 'bucket list' delight. Though contrary to what we see here, I'm pretty sure the staff won't let you run out when the bill arrives! Incidentally, what was that final, bizarre extended visual of the elderly waiter about? I'm baffled. Were we being invited to laugh at a man with a false leg??!!

Grateful not to have gone through illness with Mom or Dad. At 96 he asked his wife to come change the TV channel. 10 seconds later he was gone. No pain, no fear. She's 99 today. Healthy, carrying on. Neither ever exercised, drank water, watched what they ate. It's genes.

To me, this is a sad commentary on our culture’s morals. I personally knew someone whose father had open relationships with women other than his wife, her mother, also in England. It was destructive and painful.

This is so terribly overacted! I'm beginning to think, they're both so bad on purpose, but I'm failing to realise the reason. It is as if it were a parody of the middle class wives. Octogenarians? They don't look it. The waiter might be though. 😊

@glamdolly302 ай бұрын
I guess she was being ironic when she described them both as 'octogenarians' - perhaps this story was written with older actresses in mind? I thought the script was weak, and what a missed opportunity with two such great stars in the lead roles. And predictably, it was written by a man. Why is most drama about and starring women, penned by men? No disrespect to the male sex, I love them - but (the great Alan Bennett aside), they have absolutely no idea how the female psyche works! This dialogue didn't ring true to me. Incidentally Deborah Kerr was 62, and Claire Bloom 53 when they filmed this, so far from octogenarians!
@LuciThomasHardylover-qx6tsАй бұрын
Gosh, the script is awful! Is this really how men would like women to talk about them? The 'witty one liners ' come with the pause for canned laughter they're so bad😂 and the acting is embarrassing too, both of them over acting and wooden. The lesbian overtones were an unpleasant touch too. Sorry, this is so bad I've given it up. I'd rather keep my previous view of Deborah Kerr!
