Her moves could be perfectly symmetrical. She could do dance moves with one side of her body and do the same thing equally with the other side. It was amazing. She was one of the greatest Broadway dancers ever.
@wk1810 Жыл бұрын
I had never thought of that -- symmetry. Yes, because our dominate limbs are stronger, which would throw the moves out of sync.

Every step, move, flick of the wrist is Fosse. Ann is extremely talented. Bob just took her to a new soaring level. It says a lot about the women he loved. Gwen and Ann, after they broke up with him, still helped him in his work. And when he died the two of them took his ashes to spread where he wanted to rest.

If you love dance, All that Jazz is likely out there somewhere. She does a dance with a young girl, the movie daughter of the Fosse choreographer stand-in Roy Schieder. From the first move, you see a totally trained pro actually trying NOT to totally outshine the youngster she's dancing beside, When the difficult looks effortless, you see a craftsman at work.

This WAS as it appeared in the original show (referenced by the 1978 national tour video that exists out there). The slow part of the beginning when she sings is Roxie sitting in a wheel chair, using a hidden bowler hat (on her belly) as the baby under her hospital gown, to which she played it. She also had the bowler hat baby “kick” a couple of times ... she then looked around after the slow part and said “I fooled the bastards,” (she put the hat on her head, stood up in the costume that we see in this video, and the announcer/MC said: “And now Miss Roxie Hart struts and gloats.” The marching drums then kicked in! There were also all of the monologues strewn throughout it... Billy, Mama, Velma, and Amos in various spotted locales ... that helped break to up the length of the dance a bit, but the constant movement of the trio still happened simultaneously, this is ALL Fosse choreography! That which appears in the current revival/concert, all in black, version is Reinking’s choreography.

markie polo: Totally Agree with your description. I see many dancers in college (dance majors) with no technical training at all. Flinging themselves around "with feeling" and no clue what all they don't know.They look like they are having an attack of some sort. No carriage or style, no technique, and no knowledge of history of dance. How in the world are they going to teach others eventually? I guess it is left to the true broadway dancers, the gypsies, to carry on the tradition of real dance. Thanks for posting.

Can you Fosse? The very particular coordination, pop, and attitude needed are very specific and difficult for most. There is a lot of so-so Fosse done. Reinking was great at Fosse. Maybe others are great at other styles, or are great acrobats, but yesterday or today, Reinking is great at Fosse and dancing/performing. Watch some other earlier videos of her maybe.

There are a lot of compliments for Ms Reinking here, but there are also several not. I suggest one lesson for those not appreciating is to watch the 1997 All That Jazz with Bebe Neuwirth and Ann Reinking. Ms Neuwirth is a very good actress and has worked very hard on her Fosse, but when Ms Reinking joins her in duet, one, if one has eyes, can see the seemingly effortless greater Fosse and dancing of Ms Reinking. And Ms Reinking is 48 in that video. Also watch Reinking choreography based on Fosse, Sing Sing Sing, Verdon in Sweet Charity and Damn Yankees, etc.

Oh, and Reinking in Fosse the Musical, Bye Bye Blackbird number, etc.
