The amount of talent she had still blows my mind. Some ppl just transcend limitations. Her abilities were powerful. She had charm, charisma, grace, & star power. I can watch her for hours. She & Fosse were the dynamic duo Imo.

And before that was Gwen Verdon who passed a lot to Ann and Jack Cole the father Jazz & Gwen was his assistant and it rubbed off on fosse who created his own style - an incredible mix of talent

You can see why Ann Reinking, Gwen Verdon, and Liza Minelli were Fosse's favorite leading ladies. They have the fluidity to perfectly translate his choreography into true art.

yes!!! Completely agree...the movie was great but it needed Fosse's choice for Velma...Madonna. Catherine was good not great as was Rene as Roxy.

When I was a young Dancer in the 7O I saw everything she did from Pippin on, I thought she was the Dancers dancer and those legs!!!!!! She was amazing and could do no wrong in my mind! I adored her and tried to see everything she was in. She did not only do Fosse Shows but took over Cassie from Chorus line from Donna Macecknie A Michael Bennett show. Did a show called Over Here with the Andrews Sisters cant remember the Choriographer but she and John Mineo did a killer swing number that tore the house up every night. Good Time Charlie with Joel Grey was a Flop and then back to Fosse with Dancin which sadly was a Dance hard show and I saw it several times and it seemed sometimes it was tight and sometimes some of the cast just walked thru it or got sloppy. Of course She was great in it, The Movie "All that Jazz " every body who danced in New York worked on it as far as the audition scenes and the end scenes were shot out at Silvercup Studios or one of the other studio,s I get confused, I know she took over for Debbie Allen on a revival of Sweet Charity which i didnt see and then I didnt see her for a while after she did some stuff on the west coast and went to have a private life untill she came back for a revival of Chicago with Bebe Neuworth. She also did the staging and the Choriography as Fosse would of done it and its been playing 20 some odd years so thats a NICE monthly paycheck! not to mention rours and playing in the west end. I know she now lives in Arizona and I am not the only person who looked up to her as an influnce. She's amazing. Thats all! AND what a perfect person to carry on the Fosse Legacy>

I'm still in shock & devastated that she's gone. I idolized her since I saw her as Grace Farrell in the movie, Annie. I wish I had the fortune to at least see her perform live in person; much less share the stage with her! I may be a nurse by trade, but thanks to Ann, she encourages me by example, to keep singing & dancing for the rest of my life. RIP to my Broadway Queen Ann 😢

Saw her perform as Roxie Hart in the Broadway production of "Chicago" when it came to the Muny in St. Louis in 1977. The minute she came onstage I could not take my eyes off of her. Was a mile away from her in that vast open-air theatre and still can remember those big eyes in disbelief when Casley was walking out of her. It was only the beginning of a super-charged performance. She was absolutely amazing.

Back in the early 80's I sold a VCR to a very nice lady. As I got to know her she asked if I'd ever seen All that Jazz. I hadn't and admitted I did not know who she was. Anyway, it was Ann.
@clairepettie9 жыл бұрын
Robs OnBass What was she like? This understated pure Fosse version of All That Jazz doesn't really do her justice, but I've never seen a better dancer. In the 80s she was in her glory in Annie, watching her play Grace in that movie made me want to be her when I grew up. Of course, as a kid I didn't understand, I think I wanted to be 'Grace' not 'Ann' =)

@toobusywriting It's just for the special. The original is so simple, but it looks soooo cool. Ann Reinking. With her hair up she looks soooo, autoritive or reserved and conservative, but with her hair down she is sooo sexy. I noticed this with Annie too. She is the prim secretay untill she puts her hair down in "Let's go to the movies" and you realize that she is so strikingly beautiful.
