Anna Karen was a British-South African actress and model best known for playing Olive in the sitcom On the Buses and Aunt Sal in EastEnders on a recurring basis from 1996 to 2017. She also reprised the role of Olive in The Rag Trade and had roles in two Carry On films, those being Carry On Camping and Carry On Loving.

I met Anna a few times at comedy events, she was a straight talking character and we had a few laughs. She had time for everybody. This is a terrible tragic way for anyone to go, and she was also the last surviving cast member which makes it even worse. What a horrendous end to the life of someone who was so well known and gave us so many laughs. Truly shocking. RIP Anna.

I have fond memories of meeting Anna whilst she was in a play in Swanage Dorset back in the 90s and noticed her walking her dog 🐕 on the beach . Anna can now be reunited with the lovely late Barbara Windsor who played her sister in EastEnders . Thank you both Anna & Karen for many hours of TV enjoyment .

She was fine health wise in the 90s. I remember in 1998 when I was at stage school she was one of my teachers there and she seemed fine I remember her sitting and walking and running around like a normal person her age would and she never said she had back problems.

I'm ashamed to say I just only recently found about about the tragic death of Anna Karen, and now to learn she was heard calling for help, brought tears to my eyes. But I've been watching old 'On the Buses' episodes (that I remember as a child) and those brought tears to my eyes also, for obviously different reasons. This was a tragic death for Anna Karen. In addition to being remembered in On the Buses, she briefly played the role of Peggy Mitchell's sister in Eastenders. Bob Grant who played conductor Jack Harper in On the Buses, his death was suicide by inhaling car exhaust fumes in his garage about 20 years ago.
