I love the way you say "The ones with new money are the ones who will be judging you" I own a small store of high quality home linens and I make the same observation everyday. People with old money have such natural and effortless taste... as you said; Often dress in neutral colours, they are proud but never worried about trying to impress anyone. They just mind their own business and see people for who they are, not what they wear. They pay attention to proper fit, and their clothes are maintained, pressed, and appropriate for the season and the occasion. Thanks for saying it to over a million viewers! It truly is a breathe of fresh air on youtube!

As a retired wardrobe stylist, it can be very difficult to determine what looks "classy" on ourselves. That is why actresses, etc hire someone to do this. Your suggestions are spot on. In the US stores such as Nordstrom may still offer this service at no charge. But a good honest friend, with the taste you are trying to emulate, can be a big help. Or a friend who wants to learn this skill with you. And yes, it's all about the fabric. But that must be learned. Go to a store where the high end designer clothes are and actually touch the fabrics to learn. Eventually one will be able to just visually skim the racks at a thrift store and pick out the hidden gems at a glance. Cashmere, silk...yummm....they just feel good to touch.
@almetrabriggs63776 жыл бұрын
Another quick tip for the working girl who shops at stores like Zara, Soma, etc. Schedule a weekday off from work when the stores are basically empty. The things are neatly placed on racks, and you have more time to look slowly and try on slowly. You won’t feel so rushed, no crowds and the workers will help you. Lastly, only a few select pieces from those stores, not your whole wardrobe. Love, love this video!

That doesn't mean looking like you're going to a cocktail party, but rather to make the extra effort in choosing fabrics, and doing basic makeup and hair. Sweats and a pony tail are not going to get you where you want to go, unless you're looking to marry Homer Simpson.
@blanche13665 жыл бұрын
I agree with almost everything you said, although I can assure you can actually blend in a ponytail into a classy look :) I have very long hair and I love it but when I wear a thick coat leaving my hair down makes the look too heavy, while putting it in a clean ponytail lifts that weight off my shoulders and makes the whole outfit look more polished! :))

There is a risk that some people will sell you stinky clothes but you will learn how to avoid this. Also, many online thrift/ consignment shops also sell new and never been worn clothes. 🌺

some of these comments are really uncalled for and rude, if you are not looking for advice on how to improve the the way you and others view you as a person, then do not watch the video(not being mean just a fact)! why do people think they have to spread negative behavior)? My grandma taught me a phrase when dressing me to go out, “Always take pride when you go out and your light will never hide, because if you look like trash you will treated like trash and no one wants to be trash because, trash always gets thrown away! Have pride and demand respect and dressing your best everyday, putting your best face forward is not a upper class wealthy thing, it is a self recognition and self pride-It is telling the world "I am fabulous with out saying a word!" So be nice to this lady she is trying to help you find your inner strength and beauty.

Shop at better stores during sales. I learned a long time ago that better stores have great sales. You'll pay the same price but you'll have something that's 4 times the quality. Also, check ebay frequently for new quality leather bags. I buy my Coach bags that way. $50 for a brand new leather Coach purse that I'll have for many years. If you don't like Coach, look for other makers. But you get the idea. Also, go looking in the best stores to train your eye to #1. color (upper-class colors are often noticeably different than lower class colors); #2. styles; #3. fabric. Then duplicate what you learn at the lower price points.

I do agree most of the points. However, I don't agree with wearing clothes that are in neutral colors most of the time in order to look expensive. You can wear it everyday in an office, but for going out it would be great to wear something you really love to wear, something colorful or interesting in patterns, it would be more fun than wearing mostly in neutral colors.
@simosimo75605 жыл бұрын
I totally agree with you. I love neutrals, but in my opinion, a touch of colour or a particular pattern means personality. All neutral in my opinion is the style of who cannot afford to be elegant with something original (beautiful colours or pattern). In Italy, you often see people dressed in black at a wedding, because 'black is always elegant' but in this case I find it sad.

High Street items that I love but I know will not stand the test of time, I simply get replicated. I take them to a Tailor/Seamstress and ask them to make me the same thing in a better fabric. I had my own silk labels made that I ask them put inside the neck/collar. I also sometimes draw/sketch something that I want but cannot find, and again ask someone to make it for me with my own label. I am not great with a sewing machine so I prefer it is done properly. I don't make a habit of it as it can be pricey to get things tailor-made, but when I have a bee in my bonnet about something I really, really want, I pull the trigger. I love that you promote other women too Anna......quite often there is a huge snobbery amongst women who try to compete against each other. Just subscribed, by the way!

@jayjaytailor4 жыл бұрын
@@lilylebowsky5908 Not sure I understand what you mean? It varies on the item you want replicated, the material used, the price the Tailor charges, etc. As I said, I don't make a habit of it as it can be very pricey. I only do this when I am 100% sure that I really will wear this item for years to come. Otherwise, forget it. I had a Chanel black jacket replicated: the Tailor charged $350 to make the jacket and I had to source my own fabric and lining on top of that. It ended up costing me around $900 in total....Australian Dollars, that is. The jacket is beautiful but it did end up costing a lot. The exact same model by Chanel was priced at $7,000 at that time. Labels on the other hand, you can get printed on Etsy for around $10. Hope this helps.

You touched on a lot of points that my mother shared with me or I learned along the way. People always assume I spend crazy money for clothes, shoes, handbags, jewelry, and other accessories. I do splurge as my budget permits but that’s the exception and not the rule. My mom always shopped the high end stores but she got the sales or shopped the bargain basement. Back then a lot of places had lay a way and she was able to get more expensive items buy paying installments until she could pay it off without using credit cards and paying interest. My mom also shopped thrift and consignment stores. My mom also elevated her look with well made wigs, scarves, hats, handbags, etc. Not everything she bought was designer but everything she bought was well made and a number of pieces had a story to tell. Having something that has history and/or a story opens up conversation and allows you to share while encouraging others to share as well. I shop the way my mom does and I have found places that still do lay a way, flex pay, easy pay, etc. I use the shopping apps like Poshmark and Wish(yes Wish! They have surprising finds) I look for unusual places to shop like farm/fleet stores, even some high end grocery/gourmet stores for fashion items, beauty supply stores, etc. I believe in good solid basic pieces and unusual elements that put a personal stamp on it. The key is to be balanced and stick to the tenants of classic fashion. Having a classy look is a more cost effective look because the basic elements never go out of style and you get an elegant look at any age that always makes you look thoughtfully put together.

This is such a great comment. My mom sounds like yours. And I have ordered some jewelry off of wish that blew me away. It looks real. I mean expensive real. Hi! I'd say stick to a monochromatic look and play with the textures - the combination could be as wild as sweatpants fabric and sequins, as long as it represents who you are. What is your personal style? What are you remembered for? You could add elegance to your look by wearing sweater + leather pants + pointed tor flats/ankle boots. Add oversized coat, if it's cold. Can't go wrong with this combination!

I agree. I'd like to hear more about elegant casual looks as well. Casual dresses, how to wear jeans, etc...

I absolutely love the "Keep It Simple" rule. You don't have to be extravagant with your style in order to look expensive. Thank you, Anna! ❤️

I took your advice and got a dress tailored for our family photos and everyone just loves the dress and how it fits. Endless comments everytime someone sees them. I couldn't have done it without your advice. Thank you for all the work you do for us!
