I had the pleasure of meeting Jennifer at the St. Louis Chess Club on March 31, 2019, during the 2019 U. S. Open, at the St. Louis Chess Club (March 18-31, 2019). She played fantastically and she autographed a square (c8) on one of my "autograph chess boards." She was very pleasant and it was a pleasure to meet her and watch her play. the biggest problem of us amateur players is that we rely on our preparation to get a good position but we do not understand why those moves are made so we easily mix them up. Also the plan with Nge2 followed by f3 and e4 was a weapon of Gary Kasparov to push for wins against Karpov on their world championship. Knowing the classics is the foundation of a good chess player.

Was it just me or did she sound sad and down in this one? Right from the start I had the feeling that she would lose just with how she sounded, I'm only about 60% into the video so I don't know the outcome yet but it's pretty obvious at this point. Hope this loss doesn't get Anna too down, I can obly imagine the kind of pressure one must feel going into a match with a national champion with the World Championship in her sights. The fact that she went into the game with the mindset of looking for a draw was the only true blunder, she had already resigned psychologically in a sense.
