Huge credit to Anna for finding the best moves under incredible pressure. Even though she was a piece up, and the Eval bar was nearly all black, Pia kept finding lines where Anna could get mated if she wasn't careful. PS: kudos to Anna for wearing a sweater that matches the coat stand in the background. PPS: good luck in your next game, Anna.

Now I see why you have time to focus on all the other video aspects. Your editor gives you on less thing to juggle. Grats Anna! Continue staying in the moment. I like that you had confidence to get out of predictable chess and stay focused in-game to exploit on every move your opponents’ weakness. Never taking for granted their potential ability to return the favor. Respecting your opponent no matter. That’s your strength along with many others. Happy New Chess!

One suggestion: can a second image of the position on the board be maintained while Pia shows the variations? Often she goes on for some time while moves are bring made and these are hard to see from the camera angle; everything becomes as clear as mud. Perhaps Pia's screen shot would have to be sacrificed for these sequences.

I remember when Kasperov played Deep Blue, the machine at one point had no good solution, so it played a random move. Kasperov was convinced the machine was doing something diabolically clever, and it bothered him for years before he found out it was just a random move. Similarly, you could play something that immediately makes you think, "Whoops!", but your opponent may interpret it as a diabolical trap...something I think happens in a lot of Magnus Carlson's games. He does in fact set traps, so his opponents are constantly wondering if he's blundering or being a genius. Best reason imaginable to gain a reputation for laying traps... ;-)

Going down to 15 minutes when your opponent has over an hour left because you know you have a winning advantage and that the next few moves are critical -- that's really disciplined! I don't know that I'd have the nerves to do that. Cool!

Happy New Year Anna, and a Happy Birthday editor. Anna, your mom seems excited by the fact you have learned how to sacrifice pieces in the pursuit of the win, which I believe has never been your strength. You have always worried about piece protection. Even in this discussion you seem overly aware of capturing pieces rather than ending the game, which both lengthened the game and opened you up to a possible blunder yourself. If you haven't already watch 'Ender's Game' which, because he thought it was a simulation, was willing to lose most if not all his 'pieces' to go for the win.

Love the confidence: "I came here to win the tournament." My favorite sport was Motocross, and the men in that sport use to have that kind of confidence. "I didn't come here to get 2nd" (Bob Hannah, 1970's men) So if you become great, and somebody wants you to be humble? The heck with that! You did not put in all that work to become great, just to be quiet about it so some loser does not feel bad. If not now, I bet you will understand pretty soon. :) Love the confidence. I love human greatness. Not jealous at all.
