I don’t know about you, but I tend to get bored pretty easily with activities that are done in the classroom. So I am always looking to add creative, fun AND rigorous activities to keep my kiddos engaged (and not bored) during my Guided Reading.
Today I will show you some of the different activities that I did in my own classroom for my Fluent Readers during my Guided Reading groups that keeps them engaged and excited about the books that we are reading AND I will also show you exactly what activities that I pair to go along with each story.

I've already decided this will be one of my summer projects. Downloading, printing and getting materials organized for next year. We're in our fairy tale unit now, so I will use this next year with my transitional and fluent readers.

Hi I’m a grade 1 teacher in Canada and enjoy your videos. Can I use your system for low readers? I have two high readers who I don’t read with but do what you suggested have a reading conference and ask questions about what they read. Having 4 autistic students are there things I can do for them differently for them? Having trouble getting them working so I can have my reading groups. Your great thanks.

Hey there.... Actually, my students do all of the cutting and pasting. I will prepare the folded lapbooks so they are folded correctly. But, my students do all of the cutting and pasting. Hope this helps

Hey there Julie... I think you could....but...some of the flip flaps would work better for fictional stories than biographies. Hope that helps

One the first day of guided reading, what are the other groups doing as you meet with the new group? Do you have your fluent readers read ahead of time or do other reading activities?
