@randombooklover it’s because it’s a job that provides a service and there’s a demand for it. in my city there’s three gentlemen’s clubs on the same block. in new zealand there are laws that protect sex workers, as in prostitutes or sugar babies however strippers exist in a grey area because their job isn’t inherently sexual and usually doesn’t involve sexual acts, other than using your body in a sort of teasing manner for clients. as a result, dancers rely on the places they work for for protection, however if the employer fucks them over there is very little you can do to help yourself out while other types of jobs have unions they can go to if they are mistreated. that’s where the group Fired Up Stilettos comes in, they’re a group of strippers who were fired during contract negotiations (illegal) and are now fighting for the rights of strippers under NZ law and to bring awareness to their mistreatment. also yes, SW is often a job people go into out of desperation. i know several people who work a regular job and also some form of SW to supplement their income because new zealand has a disgustingly high cost of living. i work part-time, and receive a cost of living benefit from the government because i’m a student and i am still living pay heck to pay check because i have to pay for rent, utilities, food, transportation and medical expenses. your statement about dancing in a public place is sexual harassment is interesting, because it was just pole dancing. just a stripper dancing on parliament as a form of protest. just because someone is stripper doesn’t mean they’re always taking off their clothes, and as it is a public place public decency laws apply. because no one was arrested it seems obvious they had “enough” clothes on. pole dancing is a form of dance that requires less clothing because you need skin to actually be able to hold onto the pole, you can google the photos of the protest if you wish, and the specific protest i’m talking about the protesters were in crop tops, shorts, high heels and various accessories. this was in april so getting pretty cold down here and the dancing wasn’t any more provocative than a “normal” style of dance- i’ve been to a few hip-hop performances in my life and they’re on the same level with what was done at parliament. you can look for yourself, vixentemple.666 on ig and it’s her third pinned post. you are of course entitled to your opinion, however these are people’s livelihoods so it’s important to make sure your opinion isn’t harmful towards them when sharing it

Regarding 6:03, i was - no joke - fairly close friends (^footnote) with an adult film actor, and she indeed DID have crippling social anxiety! Before she entered the adult film industry, she more or less communicated with the world almost exclusively online - on her computer nonstop for over 18 hours a day - and at one point she didn’t leave her mom and stepdad’s house AT ALL for a little over four months, holed up in her dark and cold unfinished attic bedroom with her cheap laptop. Then at some point - I don’t know what prompted her to do this, it occurred during a stretch of time during which we’d stopped talking - she moved to L.A. to pursue a career in the adult film industry … which then led to a career in general sex work, once she realized adult film work paid very little … which then led to her burning out of the whole scene in under a year and moving to Michigan with some dude. But while she was in the industry, she took massive amounts of prescribed anti-anxiety drugs (along with other, non-prescribed drugs), which I suppose is how she coped. She was a weird bird, she simultaneously craved attention - above all, she wanted to be famous, and she would tell me this openly - yet at the same time she shied away from face to face interactions and was almost comically awkward when she wasn’t high. Because she was attractive people assumed she was socially fluent, and to a degree people projected social skills onto her because “of course attractive people are suave and sophisticated!” … but I watched her stumble for words and make jokes which didn’t land and behave inappropriately many, many, MANY times around people who were unfamiliar to her. So yeah, sex work would seem like an odd line of work for a committed introvert but, just like there are stage actors and pop musicians who are quite shy offstage, there was at least one adult film actor that I know of who had crippling social anxiety. ^Footnote: I met her before she went into sex work, and I say we were _fairly_ close because we weren’t childhood friends or anything, but our odd relationship could be intense … I met her in 2005 or 2006 online, we played pranks on people together for about a year and had a really obsessive, texting-and-chatting-and-just-watching-each-other-do-mundane-stuff-for-hours-over-cam-every-day friendship, then we “dated” for around six months at a distance, then she broke it off, then we finally met face to face a couple o’ times, then she helped me online with a project for around six months, then she did something horrible and I stopped talking to her for over a year, then *whammo* she moved to L.A. and entered the adult film business, then we reconnected for a few months, then she literally blocked me for over TWO years, then she reached out to me again out of the blue and we tried to resume our friendship but it was more casual and distant and just wasn’t the same, and then we kinda drifted apart and stopped talking … and then last year she suddenly died, and I still kick myself every day wondering if I should’ve kept in closer touch. 😢 At any rate, my point is, I don’t know how close a friendship that is, so I’ll have to leave it to readers to judge.

YES YES YES i just went shopping this morning and cooked a huge meal for myself. sat down with two plates' worth of food in front of my laptop and i was thinking "the only thing that would make this better is if the second day of Sinmas has been posted" AND IT HAS!! thank you Annamarie for this amazing gift. you have made my good day into an awesome one. Edit: it was a full meal, and my beverage of choice was a glass of milk! i tried to follow along with the You Cringe You Drink (Responsibly) Challenge but i was also just thirsty lol. i'm not even halfway through this video though and i've already had to refill my cup once, so let's see how many more cups i drink. i only have one carton that's supposed to last me four days! Second edit: finished the video, refilled my cup again but only halfway. final score: 1 and a half refills of cold milk! i am very full and very hydrated.
