I'm a really big fan of the original song, and the French parts although hard to hear is deeply interesting and adds a lot of context to the song. this is my best attempt to translate all of the blocks of quiet lyrics from the original songs using various resources: "I see that many people die because they feel that life is not worth living. I see others paradoxically being killed for their ideas, For illusions that give them a reason to live. What is called a reason for living is also an excellent reason to die." "Of a building manager who had killed himself, they once said that he had lost his daughter five years ago; That he had changed a lot since then and that this story had deeply affected him." "What triggers the crisis is almost always uncontrollable. Newspapers often talk about personal sorrows or incurable diseases. These explanations are valid; But one should know whether on that very day a friend of the desperate person did not speak to him in an indifferent tone. That person is the greatest danger, Because the desperate person thinks that if nobody cares about him, it is because he is no longer worth caring about." "There is the answer of yes and the answer of no. It would be too good to be true. But one has to take into account those who, without concluding, always ask questions. Here, I'm hardly being ironic; it's about the majority. I also see that those who answer no act as if they thought yes. In fact, they are ashamed to say no, and they answer no because they did not have the courage to say yes." All of these lyrics are hidden quietly broken up, spoken in a different language in the original song. how strange and interesting

from what I gather/can guess, it is told from the perspective of a radio news personality, covering the story either real time or in recent past, through the blurred lens of a reporter who is giving the information they have gathered through research and interviews, mixed with a lot of their own thoughts about the event. (edit: several of these sections have words cut off at the start or end, its heavily implied that we miss alot of what is said, and that each time we "tune back in" to the broadcast during the breaks of the song we are jumping back into whatever the reporter is saying at a different time)

According to Genius, at least the first passage is from an essay! Now I don't know if the rest of the passages are all from the same essay, though it wouldn't surprise me. There is also a quote on Genius from the artists, in which they reference Albert Camus' "The Myth of Sisyphus," so if I were to guess I think that's where those passages are from.

I’ve always seen it as Agamemnon instead of Hektor - if you read the Iliad, Hektor doesn’t actually want to fight Achilles in the end, and tries begging to get out of it (of course Achilles is to mad with grief to listen). Agamemnon on the other hand consistently provokes Achilles, only backing down when he knows he needs to utilise Achilles as a weapon for his own gain. It’s way more in character as Agamemnon and Patroklos than Hektor and Patroklos

With a female vocalist I can't help but imagine this song being sung by Briseis, Achilles' captured bride. Who is not only hugely forgotten in a lot of modern discussions about the iliad, but is also the victim of vastly contradictory accounts from achilles in the iliad where he sometimes calls her his wife and other times refers to her like property. I can imagine the two voices in this song being both her, depending on which part of the Iliad is being drawn from.

Lyrics (I think I got it all-?) Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof? You’re scaring us and all of us, some of us love you Achilles, it’s not much but there’s proof You crazy-assed cosmonaut, remember your virtue Redemption lies plainly in truth Just humour us, Achilles, Achilles, come down Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof? -I see that a lot of people die, because they think that life wasn't worth to be lived. I see others that are, paradoxically, killed for ideas, for illusions, that they give them a reason to live (this, that we call reason to live is at the same time an excellent reason to die) Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, come down Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof? The self is not so weightless, nor whole and unbroken Remember the pact of our youth Where you go, I’m going, so jump and I’m jumping Since there is no me without you Soldier on, Achilles, Achilles, come down Won’t you get up off, get up off the roof? Loathe the way they light candles in Rome But love the sweet air of the votives Hurt and grieve but don’t suffer alone Engage with the pain as a motive Today of all days, see How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you’ll rise above -About a manager that killed himself it was said that he had lost his daughter five years age, that he changed a lot after that and that this story had- Achilles, Achilles, Achilles, jump now You are absent of cause or excuse So self-indulgent and self-referential No audience could ever want you You crave the applause yet hate the attention Then miss it, your act is a ruse It is empty, Achilles, so end it all now It's a pointless resistance for you -What triggered the crisis is almost always uncontrollable. The newspapers often talk about « personal sorrow » or « untreatable disease ». These explanations are valid. But it should be known if the same day a friend of the desperate hasn't spoken to him with an indifferent tone. This one is the - Achilles, Achilles, just put down the bottle Don’t listen to what you’ve consumed It’s chaos, confusion and wholly unworthy Of feeding and it’s wholly untrue You may feel no purpose nor a point for existing It’s all just conjecture and gloom And there may not be meaning, so find one and seize it Do not waste yourself on this roof Hear those bells ring deep in the soul Chiming away for a moment Feel your breath course frankly below And see life as a worthy opponent Today of all days, see How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you’ll rise above Crowned by an overture bold and beyond Ah, it’s more courageous to overcome -The souvenirs of a lost country, the hope of a promised land. This divorce between the man of his life. You want the acclaim, the mother of mothers (It’s not worth it, Achilles) More poignant than fame or the taste of another (Don’t listen, Achilles) But be real and just jump, you dense motherfucker (You’re worth more, Achilles) You will not be more than a rat in the gutter (So much more than a rat) You want my opinion, my opinion you’ve got (No one asked your opinion) You asked for my counsel, I gave you my thoughts (No one asked for your thoughts) Be done with this now and jump off the roof (Be done with this now and get off the roof) Can you hear me, Achilles? I’m talking to you [Bridge] I’m talking to you I’m talking to you I’m talking to you Achilles, come down Achilles, come down Yes and no. That would be too easy. But we need the part of those that, without finishing, question anything. Here, I am being slightly ironic: It is about the vast majority. I equally want that those who answer no act as if they think yes. In fact- Throw yourself into the unknown With pace and a fury defiant Clothe yourself in beauty untold And see life as a means to a triumph Today of all days, see How the most dangerous thing is to love How you will heal and you’ll rise above Crowned by an overture bold and beyond Ah, it’s more courageous to overcome.

Okay first, *seven minutes* of singing, technically longer since you had to sing both lines for the duet around four and half minutes in. If I could I'd give you standing ovation for that, easily. Second, god dammit how this song brings me to tears. Hearing a singer begging someone not to end their lives while that same person is forced to listen to their cruel inner thoughts berate them simply for existing, two voices fighting against each other until the singer can finally break through. Crazy powerful stuff. Thank you for covering this, it's absolutely gorgeous.

5:04 I started crying. I’ve loved this song so much, but the harmony you hit here completely transformed it into something transcendent. The original sounds like the singer is begging Achilles but unable to cut through the noise. Your cover, the singer transcends-cuts through all the noise-an angelic invocation that saves Achilles. In that moment, the voice plaguing Achilles disappears, and all he sees is her. The voice comes back, it’ll never leave him, but his childhood friend is an angel at his side, giving him the strength to continue the fight with her council and encouragement. I’ve been struggling really badly lately-trauma, chronic illness, and feelings of hopelessness. It’s hard to find motivation to continue fighting when you’ve done it for so long. It can feel like we’re meant to lose this war of attrition against life. The way you’ve sung the last verse of this returned some fire to my body-gave me the courage to try again. Thank you. So much. I can now say with complete truth that your music has changed my life.

I just wanted to comment that this song actually helps me break out of them if I find a handhold to sit up just a tiny bit enough to sing. The power and emotion is perfect for venting and channeling my suffering to belt out the pain. It at least pulls me up enough to go get help before I fall again. the sheer amount of effort that mustve gone into this cover in particular is insane, with seven whole minutes of the main voice, as well as the translated background, the dual plea to achilles at the end, mixing, and on top of that another amazing artwork for the cover. crazy props to Anna and Caleb here, this is WILD.

i guess i never realized what the song was really about, but your voice, along with the french translation, made me really listen to the lyrics and realize what this song was about. i literally cried as i listened to this. i deal with thoughts of s-cide and i go through phases where i'm fine, but then i'm not. this literally came out just as i was exiting a phase of wanting to die, but being strong enough to overcome it. this song met me where i was, where i was both achilles and the singer. thank you for covering this song! it's definitely a favorite of mine, and even more so now! love your work as always!

I'm in an Existentialism class and in reading the material, I realized I'd heard it before: in the spoken words of this song. I hadn't known until taking this philosophy course that the spoken parts of Achilles Come Down come from Albert Camus' "on 'The Myth of Sisyphus'." Anna, thank you for translating the spoken lines into English, or I never would have realized. Gang of Youths did a great job and were very clever, but there's now something far more profound I've encountered thanks to this cover. Thank you, Anna. Your work continues to bring inspiration into my daily life. I wish you well.

It's taken me way too long to completely listen to this song. I hadn't listened to this song before, but I always listen to your covers. It took many attempts to just get through this cover without crying. I don't know if it had been days or less before this cover was released that I tried to end it all. Having this cover release just a few days later while I was still in a depressive state of mind feels like it's speaking directly to me and I think it's genuinely helped me get through this rut. I can finally appreciate your singing in this cover and can get through it, and I'm grateful I'm here to be able to listen to it and all of your covers and future covers! Thank you for being an artist I can always look forward to listening to

I just want to say that the timing of this cover was immaculate for my situation, I thank you greatly Anna. I listened to this four days after you uploaded this. Four days previously I was hit with a resurgence of suic*dal thoughts/prepping, something I thought I beat 7 almost 8 years ago… I know some of you guys don’t believe in God, but the timing of this cover’s release made me feel like he worked through you. I thank you again for that. I am better now, and I was reluctant to even leave a comment… but here we are. Without my faith I wouldn’t be here seven years later, without my faith I wouldn’t be hear anymore for almost a week. You have done Gang of Youth’s song a great justice as well, beautifully sung as you always do. I have been listening for about two and a half years now. And again, I thank you Anna from the entirety of my soul.

I've met too many Achilles. I've met too many who had no one there left for them. I've helped a few come down, and others were beyond my grasp. Oh, how the most dangerous thing is to love... Life is a worthy opponent. It beats down on me every day. Yet I have my hope as my armor. My mental health is a worthy opponent. It saps my strength to stand every day. Yet my medicine is my shield, and my friends are my sword. I'll keep going no matter what, so please, Achilles, come down.

This is a great cover. This cover is my spirit animal. I love that this personally got me. I'm in tears. This song saved me from the unthinkable. So the fact that there is a cover by you, Anna, makes my heart sing and dance melancholloly. I love this song/cover. In my mind, this is a conversation that Achillies and Patroclus have a few times in their lives. It's Patroclus begging Achillies to come down from the roof in his moments of desperation, instead of running off after Agamemnon takes Briseis he begs him to join the fight “see life as a worthy opponent”. I think the “remember the pact of our youth line makes it clear who is talking. This song saved me from committing a fourth suicide attempt. Saved my life. 🖤

The way this song talks about wanting to end it all and finding the strength to go on reminds me not just of some characters I’ve created, but also of myself who’s gone through severe depressive episodes and has had dark thoughts. You feel you can’t go on, like there’s no future, but something will come and do whatever they will to keep you from falling. And this song really captures how that feels.

LYRICS: Achilles, Achillies, Achilles, Come down, Won't you get up off, Get up off the roof? You're scaring us and All of us, some of us love you, Achilles It's not much but there's proof You crazy assed cosmonaut, Remember your virtue, Redemption lies plainly In truth Just humour us, Achilles, Achilles, come get down, Won't you get up off, get up off, The roof? Achilles, Achillies, Achilles, Come down, Won't you get up off, Get up off the roof? Remember the path of our youth Where you go, i'm going, So jump and i'm jumping Since there's no me without you Soldier on, Achilles, Achilles come down, won't You get up off, get up off The roof? Loathe the way they light Candles in rome, but love the Sweet air of the votives Hurt and grieve but don't Suffer alone, engage with the pain as a motive Today of all days, see How the most dangerous Thing is to love How you will heal And you'll rise above Achilles, Achillies, Achilles, Jump now, and you are absent of cause or excuse So self-indulgent, and Self-referencial, no audience Could ever want you You crave the applause, yet Hate the atenttion, then miss it, Your act is a rouse It's empty Achilles, so end it up now, it's a pointless resistance for you Achilles, Achilles, just Put down the bottle, don't Listen to what you've consumed It's chaos, confusion and Wholly unworthy of Feeding and it's wholly Untrue You may feel no purpose Nor a point for existance, it's All conjecture and gloom And there may not be a meaning so find one and seize it Hear those bell rings, Deep in the soul, chiming Away for a moment Feel your breathe course Frankly below, see life as a Worthy opponent Today of all days, see How the most dangerous Thing is to love How you'll heal And you'll rise above Crowded by an overture Bold and Beyond Ah, it's more courageous To overcome More poignant than frame, Or the taste of another Be real and just jump, you dense motherfucker (YOU'RE WORTH MORE, ACHILLES) You will not be more than a rat in the gutter (SO MUCH MORE, THAN A RAT) You want my opinion, My opinion you've got (NO ONE ASKED FOR YOUR OPINION) You asked for my counsel, I gave you my thoughts (NO ONE ASKED FOR YOUR THOUGHTS) Be done with this now, And jump off the roof BE DONE WITH THIS NOW AND GET OFF THE ROOF Can you hear me, Achilles? I'm talking to you CAN YOU HEAR ME ACHILLES? I'M TALKING TO YOU I'M TALKING TO YOU I'M TALKING TO YOU ACHILLES COME DOWN ACHILLES COME DOWN THROW YOURSELF INTO THE UNKNOWN, WITH THE PACE AND FURY DEFIANT CLOTHE YOURSELF WITH BEAUTY UNTOLD, AND SEE LIFE AS A MEANS TO TRIUMPH TODAY OF ALL DAYS, SEE HOW THE MOST DANGEROUS THING IS TO LOVE HOW YOU WILL HEAL AND YOU'LL RISE ABOVE CROWNED BY AN OVERTURE, BOLD AND BEYOND AH, IT'S MORE COURAGEOUS TO OVERCOME
