Henry VIII had a particular fear of any illness but most especially infectious diseases, he was acutely afraid of the sweating sickness. When Anne’s servant came down with the sicknss, Anne went to Hever Castle while Henry and Katherine of Aragon went elsewhere. Anne eventually came down with the sweatning sickness as well. In this video I tell you what was going on at the time when the sweating sickness went through the court and Henry’s reaction to Anne contracting it.

Honest😅. A lot of men would say " whole thing" not wishing to take even a half. Who would realistically wish even a quorter of such an illness??

I love how he sends his second best physician and keeps his best one for himself. Then said he would gladly take HALF of her illness. Truly one of the worse humans to ever exist.

What did Mary think of her little sister, Anne marrying Henry? Not that she could say or do anything about it. I'd be creeped out.

Anne getting the sweating sickness is one of those "what if" moments. What if she succumbed to the illness? Who would H8 have married? No QEI. Would Henry have stuck it out with KoA (most likely not), but if so, no Church of England

No. He wouldn’t have stayed with Katherine. He would have found another one. He was actively looking.

Im being facetious. When you read Henry's letter to Ann Bolyen of him being her most loyal and assured servant. Not many years later she lost her head! Also, I find it hard to believe she was that naive. What he was doing to his wife Catherine of Aragon should have put up the red flags for her. Did she really have a choice in the matter to reject him eager for the power and glory for being a Queen? Either way she paid the price with her life.

Wait a minute did i get this right. So, she recovered and the physician became her royal physician and became close to her physical and spiritual. Does that means they started a relationship behind Henry? Let me tell you, if that was what happened it is hilarious. So, much for Henry wanted to have only half of her illness, but he left her without thinking twice about it 😅. What a joke of a man 😅

Good morning Evelyn. When you first started talking about how Henry had announced his plans to annul his marriage to Katherine, just prior to the outbreak of sweating sickness. As well as the fact that they moved from castle to castle together, as to not get sick. My first thought was, that must have been incredibly awkward for both of them. Hearing Henry’s own words in his letter made me laugh, because clearly it was incredibly awkward. Poor Anne, that letter was throwing out red flags, everywhere! I don’t know what it would’ve taken to get her to see sense. If someone speaks so disrespectfully about their ex, who they have a child with…RUN. If they can treat one woman like that, they will do it to you as well. He seems like his letter is a mix of love bombing Anne, while disrespecting Katherine. Neither of them deserved Henry’s wrath. I have always found sweating sickness, to be one of the most terrifying historical illnesses. Due to the fact it killed so quickly. Also that modern physicians don’t really know what it was, or why it ended. I used to think Henry was a bit obsessive when it came to illness. After Covid, I understand his fears. Between Sweating Sickness, Plague, Syphilis, and TB , he was probably justified in his fears. Thanks so much for another brilliant video! My apologies for the long response.

It makes sense as well when you put in to perspective how young he was when his brother died and what a massive event and shift that was in his life. I don’t know that Anne had much of a choice to “get out” once Henry was “in”. 🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️

@@EvelynEdwards Sadly I agree, I don’t think any of his wives had much of an ability to advocate for themselves. I have also found the idea that Anne somehow planned on being Queen, and was a seductress, to be especially ludicrous. I have always felt badly for Elizabeth Boleyn and to a lesser extent, Thomas as well. Is it any wonder, that she only survived less than two years after her children were murdered?
