I tried watching the new Netflix ones. They had a completely different spirit. I didn’t finish it. Your version is buoyant and light. Anne had trauma, but she never soaked in the darkness, always rose above. Thank you! Your movies are still my favorite. I read every Anne book. Whenever people ask me my favorite movie it’s still Anne of Avonlea. I call it that, not the sequel! That’s what the box said way back when.

From required reading when I was "slightly" younger in school; to viewing all three movies, I keep these memories in heart, and literally broke down crying and smiling at the end of the "Continuing Story". They [cast; crew'\ will remain in my heart always. And do please continue the supply ... I;m on my third set .... This trilogy should be required reading and viewing for all schools worldwide as Megan Follows Porter portrayed a child that exists in past; present and future generations to come. She shows that obstacles socially and peer-wise CAN be overcome by perseverance and belief in oneself. Don't ever let this trilogy fall by wayside please!!

The book series is 8 novels long, not a trilogy. (lucky you! Theres more to enjoy!) I think the first is often read in schools. If kids like them, they'll continue. I understand the 3rd movie went off the rails, sending Gilbert to WW1, so I've never watched it. The timeline is all wrong for that, since Anne's SON actually goes to fight. It's a whole generation off.

I'm glad and appreciative that the original film prints still existed to make a true widescreen version of these films. (As opposed to just matting off the top and bottom of the original 1:33 format, which would be a shame.) I only wish such original elements were similarly available for all of our beloved shows/movies we've enjoyed over the years. This video just sold me on buying the Anne DVDs. I do wish that the final color palette was just as sunny as the original broadcast, though. I'm not sure why the more subdued greens/brights in this restoration was preferred by the studio/director.

My only gripe from what this video shows is how the digital restoration for at least the first two movies really darkens up the image. I wouldn't have minded the brightness, or keeping some of the brightness, of those original elements.

I agree. I think this might be a case where the restoration (at least in terms of color palette) feels less faithful to the original source. As I said in my earlier comment, I'm glad the information on the right and left could be restored. But when they show the comparison of "before and after," I don't understand why they apparently intentionally made the restored versions "muddier" in terms of colors. Almost Matrix-like. Maybe if they ever release a Blu-Ray version (no reason not to at this point, since they apparently had access to the original film prints), they can restore the colors again.

Dear Kevin Sullivan, Please make an effort to restore the Anne of Avonlea 30min segment. I am sure technology has come far enough to use digital image restoration through types of machine learning and etc. It might come close to the original or being unnoticeable enough. You owe it to yourself, your own work. Your Anne classic films are worth it - they will be enjoyed and appreciated forever.

Was it really filmed in widescreen? It looks like they have just chopped the top and bottom off and called it widescreen. Can anyone tell me? Instead of losing mass digital download sales by concentrating on stalking copyright infringements, make it available. Just number the views of copyright violations you have policed. This is really problematic - on the one hand you have a contemporary, and meticulously crafted hd version, which is *not* the original version, and on the other you have the original, flaws and all - I do wish they could have just digitally fixed the bars rather than use outtakes. Though... the outtakes are now the norm and would've otherwise never been seen. I do wonder... hell, I'll have to buy both!

The original color was so much better. The new is wayyy too yellow. And replacing scenes with different takes? I will totally remember if the take doesn’t cut to Gilbert at the right spot, or whatever; that’s how many times I’ve seen them. Total fail. Total disappointment. I didn’t comment when this originally came out, but as I actually do need to replace my (now quite old) original vhs tapes, I’m going to have to look for whatever version was released before this date. It does look like a collection released in 2006, that is not remastered, is still available for sale as a DVD. Thanks, Sullivan Entertainment! I really, truly do appreciate that.

Have to say I'm disappointed with the so called "improved" digital transfer. There's a decided green cast to the restoration that isn't on the original, which is very evident here with the before/after scenes. And the clarity is terrible, no discernible improvement in crispness. The original DVD transfer which I purchased a year ago from the Sullivan website pixelates markedly. Considering the cadillac prices Sullivan is asking for its DVDs, I expect a better level of quality. Mint prices should mean mint transfers and quality. I'll likely not buy any other titles from the website accordingly.

Hi! Sorry to hear you were disappointed. But we are not sure what you mean. Are you referring to the DVD set that was released in 2012? The video you are commenting on is not the most restored version of Anne of Green Gables. It's a version that was put out some years ago and since then we have done further restorations and there have been three new releases via Blu-ray. The highest quality restored version is the Blu-ray version and it is absolutely not pixilated or grainy, nor does it have a "green cast". It took years to do the restoration from the original negative and it is worth the price we sell it for. Regarding the original DVD, which was released something like 24 years ago, we are very transparent in the fact that it is low quality. TVs have majorly evolved since then. Even since 2012 when the restoration DVD was put out. That original DVD set was literally a direct transfer, of course, it's not going to stand up to today's standards. However, it is the version that many prefer to purchase and again, we have never tried to hide that it is not the highest quality. We are sorry you feel like it's not worth purchasing from us, but please note that to purchase from anyone else is to take the chance of receiving counterfeit goods. If you prefer digital versions of the films, you can find those, in crisp picture quality, on www.gazebotv.com. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
