Her recording of Bach songs is wonderfull. Erbarme dich, mein Gott is probably one of my favourite clasical piece of all time, and her performance is just perfect. It is very interesting listening to her talking about the recording. Thanks for posting

This is a very lovely version, one of the few I’m able to listen to after watching and hearing the exquisite voice, intellect, and musicality of Julia Hamari, performing with Karl Richter. Hamari doesn’t move, doesn’t even blink, she’s so far immersed in the text and music, with the unbelievably beautiful musical duet played by the violinist….it’s such a moving experience, indescribable! I don’t have any patience with the distracting and really unnecessary physical movements displayed here by Ms. von Otter….in my own experience, it comes from a place of psychological need and has nothing to do with technique. Still, I can flip my iPad over and listen and enjoy what she brings to the aria.

I'm sure she would have done more Bach these past 20 years if her relationship with John Eliot Gardiner hadn't dried up. Who knows why that was. As with many singers as they get older, a beat enters the voice that in this case makes me yearn for the younger von Otter. A lovely performance, none the less.
