I was not expecting this but I hope yall keep watching it. Anne with an E is such a good show. I also like how you guys said that Anne feels balanced because she is, She is dramatic but is very wholesome, She's bratty but really smart and capable, She's strong but emotional. She talks a lot but when she does she says something beautiful and profound. She equally annoys me and makes me love her at the same time. That's why she's such a good character and that's why Amybeth McNulty is such a fantastic actress and was the perfect choice.

Maybe Anne talks so much because when she is silent the trauma of her past flashes in her mind? Every time she got quiet in this episode the beatings and the bullies where all she could focus on. It's chatter to keep the negative memories and feelings away

So it's not really a true story -- Anne of Green Gables is a book (one of the classics, similar to Little Women) and is loosely based on the author's life. Green Gables is a real place though, where the author lived and based the story.

What I love about this is that it takes the abuse and its effects on Anne that are implied in the book and makes it very explicit. It's a kind of a different take, but true to the story (at the very beginning at least). The actress that plays Anne is perfect in the role and does a great job!

Did you notice that The actress who played Anne was in Stranger Things? She played Vicky - another loquacious character! And as for the ‘Introverts won’t like this’ argument. I’m an introvert and I love this show. Anne’s way grated a bit at first, but as you get to know her character you see how strong and principled she is. I grew to really like her.

Yes!! I LOVE Anne with an E! I think you guys will actually like this show, at first I thought the first ep was okay and I wasn’t expecting to like this show as much as I did. I can’t wait until the second episode, I think after that the show really picks up. Also I don’t think this is based off a true story, I think this is just fiction from the books.

Just FYI, Marilla and Mathew are siblings not a couple. I tried to watch this show when it first came out but I couldn't continue it. I grew up with the original miniseries from the 80s, Anne of Green Gables. I prefer that version.

The same... at the beginning this version looked okay but then they started making it more dramatic and exiting so I have just stopped. The 80s version is perfect but I think it might seem bland and boring for some especially young people who base they standards on Marvel etc... no shade just.... the expectations have changed...

As some have said, parts of the books are loosely based on the author's life in a rural township called Cavendish in PEI. It's also based on a newspaper article that she read about an orphan girl who by mistake ended up with a couple that originally wanted a boy. Also, in the book Anne is only about 11 when she comes to Green gables. As for the broach incident, in the book Marilla had already decided to keep Anne when that came up and never wavers. She also looks everywhere to find the broach and very much wants Anne to be innocent.
