Canadian here, just thought I'd point out that the show takes place on Prince Edward Island, Canada's smallest province, and Anne was from an orphanage in Nova Scotia, another east coast province here. Anne is probably Canada's most iconic fictional character and Anne of Green Gables is probably our most famous fictional story. PEI has tourism based around Anne of Green Gables 😊 love your reaction!

I kind of relate to her. I love talking and could go on forever with the right audience and I love imagining things. I think part of it is that Anne is so alone for most of her life so she had to do with talking to herself. I see myself in her.

Hell yeah! Anne with an E is my all-time comfort show. Anne is so relatable and it really spoke to the intense feelings I had at her age (11-16 book, 13-16 in the show) and it was so therapeutic to see. Part of the reason Prince Edward Island is on my bucket list

Yeah, Nova Scotia is a province in Canada. The show is based on a tiny island called Prince Edward Island that is also in Canada. And Nova Scotia is connected to the rest of Canada... So essentially she's going to a very tiny island and coming from "the main land" in a way. Also there's a lot of people with accents because the maritimes, which is the word used for far Eastern Canadian provinces, was where all the people kind of settled in Canada in the beginning. So there was a big population of British and Welsh and Irish (and french which the show does go into eventually)... So that's why there's people who have foreign sounding accents in the show...

It's going to be really cool to get to see you guys watch this since you seem to be completely unfamiliar with the story! I'm Canadian, and Anne of Green Gables (the novel the show is originally based on) is pretty much a cultural touchstone here. My aunt played Anne for a little while in PEI (where this is set), and that production ran every single year for fifty years until COVID hit, to give you some idea. There's a whole book series, a musical, and a TON of movies and tv shows, this one being the most recent adaptation I know of. I don't know anyone here whose intro to Anne was this show, so I'm gonna have a good time seeing how it holds up in your opinion, without the context of already knowing the story

26:06 there are two different kinds of dandelions. The yellow ones, and the white ones that you blow on make a wish. (or in this case, a promise.) Roly-poly’s are a type of insect, similar to a pill bug. The difference is that the Roly-poly has an ability to roll into ball when disturbed.

I adore Anne of Green Gables. I grew up watching the Sullivan Entertainment version of all the book adaptations. Enthralled by them. I read all the books in 6th grade and have periodically returned to the series throughout my life. Anne of Green Gables is such a comfort movie for me. And I really liked this adaptation too. I hope you guys like it. It's not for everyone, but if you do like it, it's one of those you keep near and dear.

i remember as kid, elementary age, watching the animation of anne, and i fell in love with the simplicity of life in the past, without technology, and anne abilty to entertain herself with just her imagination and inner world, which i related to that a lot since i used to be like that as a child. and years later i received as a gift from a friend, the first book of the whole series, and i loved it. but it was difficult back then to get the rest of the books, in my native language, and back them my mom was against shopping online sincce she was always a skeptic. so years later after i became an adult and had my own money, i ordered the entire book collection in English, and read it. the story continues way beyond her childhood, so a part of me always felt like i had to finish reading all the books to know what happened, felt incomplete haha.

I grew up watching Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, and The Continuing Story. As a kid I watched them on PBS every year, and as I grew up I bought all three on VHS and continued to watch them until the tapes were useless. Now they just sit on my shelf. LM Montgomery had a couple different book series that I loved. Emily of New Moon was my favorite and I also loved Pat of Silver Bush. I still have these three series of books on my shelf as well.
