How exciting for you and Ron! This is a small suggestion, no white candles, only tallow or grungy colored and light the wick of each one so it looks used. I have an Amish made dining table. It has bread board ends and stretchers around the bottom of the 4 legs. Sitting at the table encourages you to put your feet on the stretchers and is soooo comfortable. What an adventure you have ahead. You go girl.

I enjoy all the home tours. One thing I’d love to see is window treatments that have privacy. We live in an over 55 community and lots are not big at all. Most homes I see in these videos are on bigger properties so covering the windows isn’t as much of an issue. Right now, I have blinds on the windows. I’m debating on just adding valances or swags over them as they are only four years old and not big box blinds. Suggestions? And this home is gorgeous! Kudos to the owners.
@AnneClay24 күн бұрын
@@JustMeOnlyMeIndeed shutters on the bottom are a great way to get privacy. I use floor to ceiling panels tied up in the middle and can let them down for privacy Altho I’m one of them that doesn’t need it. Some people have blinds hiding behind their valences.
@JustMeOnlyMeIndeed24 күн бұрын
@@AnneClaydon’t like plantations shutters. House is small and I don’t like how intrusive they are when opened. Paid way too much for the blinds four years ago to dump them. Thanks, though.

My earliest family that I have found are from Kentucky , he was born there in 1803. In fact both sides of my dad's family are from KY. My great-grandpa was in the Civil War, and he was interviewed in 1924 by the KS state historical society, since he was a successful homesteader and proved up his claim . Anyway he voted for Lincoln in 1865! So of course I love Lincoln, and I also have a place set aside to display Lincoln items. I did take my granddaughter to visit his birthplace. I just love this house, a gem! Thks, Ann!

What a beautiful home and so many decor pieces to work with! I think my suggestion would be to start by separating your belongings into "Victorian" and "Colonial" categories and removing all "Colonial" items from rooms you want to have a Victorian look and removing all "Victorian" pieces from rooms you want to have a Colonial/Early American look. If you have pieces that fit neither category, perhaps they can be sold or passed to other family members, unless, of course, they are sentimental pieces. You will always be able to find a spot somewhere for the sentimental pieces. Just as an example, you could move your Sturbridge lamp, tavern sign, large basket by the door, and oval stacking boxes from the room with the curved Victorian cabinet that you want to make a Victorian room. I'd get everything situated by style and then you will see what needs you have. Thanks Michelle for sharing your home with us!

Well here’s a suggestion where they can start looking for new pieces. Try an antique show. We went to Ohio over the weekend and visited two shows ( not that I needed a thing!) that were basically primitive/early American. Dealers came from all over…even New England. We got to meet the folks from Walker Homestead. There were so many beautiful pieces for sale. The shows will be repeated the first weekend of November. And yes, I bought a few things….just s few smalls. Arnett’s were there and the Santas were gone in under an hour.

First of all, your home is lovely....a wonderful canvas to work with. If you really want to go primitive, my opinion (I had to do the same thing) begin by editing out the Victorian....I know it's hard but it makes such a difference and as you replace those things with prim pieces, you will really move closer to that early American primitive style. I might suggest more wooden ware accessories, add some woven coverlets & early textiles, old baskets, lanterns, old leather books and pottery and you are on your way. Educate yourself on things that came from that period and then be on the look out. Best of luck in your journey.
